Very.

The iPad Air has really shaken my confidence in Apple. Maybe it's iOS7, maybe it's the 1gb of ram, I don't know and I don't care. All I know is the crashing and constant reloading is awful. I regret upgrading from my iPad 3.

Between this and the 5s' fingerprint scanner I'm not sure Apple's "it just works" mantra still means anything.

If it were happening to the majority as I stated perhaps elsewhere, there would have been a slew of returns. Since that wasn't the case, then the question is why weren't these devices created equally OR what have folks done to muddy the waters?

I spent last night trying to get my Air to crash or refresh. NADA!!

So i feel like 1gb of ram for an ipad might not be enough for my purpose (opening multiple pdfs, writing notes, etc.)

Can you guys share some thoughts on this?
Do you guys experience a lot of freezes (I think they called it a phase out or something like that..)

1GB of RAM is plenty for the purposes you've stated above.

I have constant crashes using Safari .. Drives me CRAZY! I don't understand how a device like this can crash as much as it does ! Especially after paying $730 (32GB).

If I have open more then 3 tabs at any time, its almost a guarantee that if I open up a 4th, safari will crash !:mad:

Well you spent $730 and didn't return it so there must by things you liked which
negated those Safari crashes and you deciding to keep it regardless.

Fess up folks. What have you done to your iPad that is causing this behavior? Mine is fine and I didn't mess around per se with my iPad. I'm not a power user but I tried hard last night to crash the iPad and get reloading of Safari. Couldn't do it.

iPad Air - how severe is the RAM problem?

My Air would reload tabs just switching between them more often then I'd care for.

I would be on this site replying switch to another tab for information then go back to Mac rumors and it would reload. I'd lose everything I typed. Drove me nuts.

Goto nin.com and scroll around for a bit. Other webpages do it too but I think that one is the easiest.

Besides this is a documented issue from Apple that they are devoting an update to try to help resolve. If there wasn't an issue there wouldn't be anything to fix now would there? :)

Nin.com works fine on photon web browser. The whole site loaded and I even listened to came back haunted on my ipad air.

Here, I made you a video.

That was literally 45 seconds of my usual daily routine. It didn't crash, but it couldn't handle two tabs. Two.

Perhaps you think I'm an anti-Apple fanboy, but I'm not. I have an Apple TV, an iMac, an iPad and my entire family plan is comprised of iPhones. I swear to you though, the iPad Air experience is so bad that my faith in Apple is shaken. We're five months out and not only is my $700 device still not working, but I feel like they've given up on fixing it.

Be it the RAM or a poorly optimized OS, I don't care, I just want a device that works reliably.

Comical reply! I actually do like my iPad a lot. It is 100% stock software, no jailbreaks at all. Started as new iPad. There should be absolutely no problems. When the browser does crash, at least I can open up safari and the tabs will still be there.. I am not somebody that goes over my iPad with a fine tooth comb like some people, but this is a really annoying recurrence. I have 0 problems with my Macbook Pro or iPhone, only the iPad..

What websites were you opening up "trying real hard to crash safari" with ? Google.com ?

I do not doubt problems but they aren't the majority of devices. It obviously doesn't matter if one's device is in the minority but folks are scratching their heads as to why only some are affected including myself.

It beckons the question especially if this was the case right from the get go why it was not returned for another. There was even a thread someone posted whereby Apple advised folks to do that. And from understanding it does not even matter when or where devices were
bought.

Wow I am not that up on Apple news as much as I use to be but I sure hope my ipad air doesn't have this problem. I just ordered mine yesterday from Amazon and it arrives tomorrow. I knew I shouldn't have clicked in this thread lol.. Now I am worried :(

I would have exchanged your iPad. Reading through all the post, some people have issues but many people do not.

At the very least, bring it to an Apple store and demand they fix the problem.

I did exchange it. Twice. Then they stopped cooperating with me insinuating that it's either user error or that it's perfectly normal.

If you can reproduce the errors, you can show them in person. If the Apple employee will not help you, escalate the issue to his boss. Demand that they repair it or replace it if they can't repair it.

Reading through the many post here, many people do not have issues with crashing or tab reloading while others do. There has to be some difference between your iPad and their iPad.

I muddied the waters by using the stock iPad. I did not restore from a different device. How dare I?!?!?

I wouldn't worry. Here shortly the iOS 7.1 update will be out and while that obviously doesn't add RAM it fixes a majority of the crashing issues. Some users even if this thread don't report problems so the average user with 7.1 will think its flawless.

Not too sure about the tab reloading thing. That has me the most interested. I did notice doing a Restore from new helped quite a bit when I had my Air as far as apps reloading. I was actually kind of surprised, but it didn't fix the crashing issue...

Just trying to narrow things down. I bet the percentage of folks who restored have the issue with Safari more than those who didn't.

I did get elevated to the boss. He told me I had to restore from a back up. When I told him I had restored from a backup right before showing up at the Apple Store it only solved the problem for an hour to a half day at best. That's when he started acting like I was doing something wrong and causing it.

He let me exchange my iPad twice before giving me the run around. He's now saying 7.1 will fix it and that's it. At this point I'm hoping that the March update will fix it but I'm not holding my breath.

Crashing will be fixed in 7.1 (but not 100%). The tab reloading won't get fixed. It is exactly as bad as with 7.0x

Read through the threads. Many new iPads do not have an issue with reloading tabs.

I am sorry, but I can't believe that. It has nothing to do with the hardware. It's a software issue and affects all iPads. 100%
People make isolated tests and see that an ipad can successfully handle 4-5 tabs without reloading. In real usage it is very much different. Tabs reload all the time and it is pretty annoying.
The iPad was supposed to be best at some basic stuff, like Internet browsing (remember Steve Jobs keynote?), but the truth is, the iPad is all about convenience, not about being the best in anything. Frankly, it is actually the worst in almost all categories, but its directness and convenience, make it a nice device. The OS is severely lacking functionality.

I think much of the problem is hardware related. Many people have no tab loading problems at all with real usage. Other people have tab reloading problems just trying to open a few tabs with nothing else running.

Sorry, but not at all. It is 100% a software issue. Don't believe what Apple employees might tell you. They know no better themselves...

The issue of occurrences with reloads and crashes is so important but Apple continues to put off the 7.1 release. Go figure. ;)
