Writing this from an iPad Air right now.

Make no mistake this is a great tablet if you can use it as it was intended.

Would the experience be better with 2gb of ram? Yes. If there was much less reloading of apps and webpages certain tasks would be easier.

BUT does that make it a bad tablet? No.

I also highly suspect that software is partially to blame. Frequent crashes in Safari (a very real issue btw) are most likely a software issue. I've used other mobile devices where RAM was limiting and it doesn't lead to webpage crashes.

I also think different apps are better at preventing reloading. For example i was trying to read a pdf article in PDF expert while taking notes on that article in evernote. Every time i switched back to PDF expert (old version btw) there would be a reload that totally killed the work flow. I switched to iannotate and no longer had any issues.

I guess my point is I suspect more RAM would give more wiggle room for less optimized apps (and maybe Safari) but I don't think the issue is so bad it can't be fixed with better software optimization. Still very much enjoying my iPad.

This statement, because Safari has crashed on you.

What a load of crap, and your exaggerations across this thread are crap, too. The fact is, you aren't locked into Safari and Safari only... I have switched to Mercury and also have used Chrome, without crashes, after having a few Safari crashes in the past. But to say the iPad "is actually the worst in almost all categories" because Safari crashes once a month right before you climax to your internet porn is garbage, troll food, and laughable.

I guess you can't really read what I wrote, or you don't understand anything. I have tried many iPads and the issues are the exact same. Not only that, but, when did I say something about crashing? I am talking about tab reloading. What exaggerations?
I love Apple and its products, but I am not blind to see their issues too.
The iPad, especially because of iOS 7 has lost a lot of its charm. The stability issues, the lack of smoothness in the user interface and the Safari behavior, are there, and I don't care if you can admit it or not.
The iPad in its current form is not a great device. It could be so much better you know...
I am tired of these issues and I can't be bothered with blind fan boys..

Very.

The iPad Air has really shaken my confidence in Apple. Maybe it's iOS7, maybe it's the 1gb of ram, I don't know and I don't care. All I know is the crashing and constant reloading is awful. I regret upgrading from my iPad 3.

Between this and the 5s' fingerprint scanner I'm not sure Apple's "it just works" mantra still means anything.

It's shaken my confidence too. It's supposed to be a premium product yet I've had to stop using my iPad for browsing the net and I now use my Nexus 7. The crashes on mine were constant to the point I couldn't even look at Facebook without it crashing every minute or two. Just ridiculous. I do think it's a software issue and not the ram, so I'm really hoping 7.1 fixes it. I also think it's ridiculous that Apple has made us wait this long for 7.1 when 7.1 is supposedly much more stable according to everyone who is using it.

I remember when I purchased my Nexus 7 (I already had an Ipad 3). There were a number of posters on the Alternates to iOS section that said the Nexus 7 was no where near as smooth scrolling as the Ipad. After I updated to iOS 7, now I wish my Ipad would scroll as smooth as my Nexus 7.

Then stop bothering them with your exaggerations. Good lord, if this isn't the definition of a "first world problem" I don't know what else to point to.

Eh? You know you are on a tech forum, right? What do you expect to read here? About poverty and diseases? People come here to discuss about technology and that is by definition a luxury for many countries on this planet.
If you can't take it, then just stop visiting forums like this one.

The iPad has some issues and that is a fact. Some people don't see them because they use their devices lightly and others have more expectations and want sth better...

I was going to reply to you on my iPad, BUT THIS STUPID, HORRID, DISGUSTING TABLET THAT IS RIDDLED WITH THE WORLD'S MOST CRIPPLING PROBLEMS SINCE THE DAWN OF ALL TIME just won't let me. I guess I better just keep quiet, per your suggestion, and crawl in a fetal position while hoping some other tablet manufacturer gets its act together...

I never suggested that people should keep quiet. When did I write that?
Don't get me wrong here. When the iPad works, then it's great. There are moments though where the iPad drives me crazy. Especially the tab reloading. I am using beta 5 and the iPad is much more stable and better, but still not great. Today I had slow downs, even after cold booting..The OS needs a lot of optimization and I hope the next beta or GM will be much better than the beta 5...

Sorry, but not at all. It is 100% a software issue. Don't believe what Apple employees might tell you. They know no better themselves...

Apple employees want us to think it's just software and a software fix will solve the problem (tab reloading issue). The fact remains that many people posting here have never had a tab reloading problem no matter how much they try to get it to happen. Other people have the tab reloading issue just opening a few tabs with nothing else running. Furthermore, some people who have had the tab reloading issue have exchanged their iPads and the problem has gone away. It's not 100% a software issue and I doubt 7.1 will fix the problem for those people who own iPads with a chronic tab reloading problem.

Sorry, not true. The tab reloading issue affects ALL ios devices. No exceptions.

7.1 is not going to fix it, did you read it?

And no, I do not have the issue and nor do millions of others. You think they would keep it if they did? I do not see millions storming Apple stores returning iOS devices nor Apple releasing 7.1 yet so guess why?

Yeah, i'm not having reloading issues on either my iPad 2 or Air. I even had 6 tabs open and ran a couple more apps. When back and all the tabs were in the same spot as before.

The tab reloading is affecting your IOS devices. Can you actually read the post in this thread.

1) Many people have the IOS tab reloading problem.

but

2) Many people do not have the tab reloading issue.

Also, some people with the tab reloading issue exchanged their iPads and the problem went away.

No problem

I geared ram a bit as well, as I often use voice over on really large text documents, which resulted in low ram situations with the third gen iPad (only ~130megs more in air) but yet the air runs incredibly great. iOS is great at managing RAM and the SSD is really fast, so swapping RAM and SSD's temp file isn't a problem. There' salsa mor cache on the SoC. Don't worry about the ram is what I say.

And that is where I call BS(people saying they have zero reload issues). Either they don't know they have a reload scenario, or they they simply don't perceive it as a problem. Like others on here have stated, I have seen this same issue on every air I have gotten my hands on.

I attribute it to people who also claim that the numbers of safari crashes have decreased in iOS7.0.X No, YOU have changed how you use it, and have subconsciously conditioned yourself to avoid using safari in a way that would crash.

I don't have a reload issue with either my Air or iPad 2. I've tried and it hasn't happened. I'm looking for an excuse to return my Air to Best Buy and that issue would seal the deal.

How often to do you turn your Air off and on?
How many tabs do you normally have open at once?

Sorry but you are off base and I'll provide FACTS as to why. How many out of the millions of Ipads sold got returned? How many Apple stores are flooded each day with people screaming bloody murder about this issue? Why hasn't Apple released the 7.1 update yet if this is so numerous with folks claiming browsing is useless with Safari?

The answer is because this has been blow out of proportion by a few, not the majority who just go about continuing to use theirs and enjoying what they bought WITHOUT issues.

Apple has given choices. Apple allows returns, folks kept the device goodness knows why instead of returning it or escalating until Apple gave recourse. And folks agree to software updates right off the bat without perhaps waiting it out to see if there are problems.

OK, tried what you said and nope all is good. No reload. My Air is usually in standby. I never turn it off. I forgot to mention that I opened 5 tabs all @ Apple.com

You are wasting your time. Enjoy your purchase. How many of the millions of people who have an iPad are going to do what was suggested with their device to begin while using their's daily?

There is no way the tab reloading is caused by malfunctioning hardware. It's not logical and it doesn't matter what people here post, it is definitely a software issue.
Which hardware component would be malfunctioning to cause tab reloading? Get serious please!
