I guess the OP is busy with his "free" iPad. Either that or this first taste of theft has escalated and he is now tracking down delivery trucks filled with iPads and stealing ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

Your analogy is stupid. Your comparing someone losing then finding his iPad stealing. He paid for insurance, apple and UPS are getting paid for it. Now your telling him to pay one them twice. Come on thats the stupidest thing that I have ever heard. Do you think the insurance company is losing money? He was inconvenienced and no one else. It was the shippers fault. Let them pay.

Are you for real? He was inconvenienced? You're a pretty crappy person.

Or maybe he was arrested for insurance fraud and they don't have internet access in jail... :p

Something I am shocked that no one mentioned. That is the serial number. I would imagine Apple would show this iPad is being stolen. Then when you are going to do the start up, bingo your caught. So do the right thing and return the iPad. It's the right thing to do, and karma will reward you. Or you could wind up like some guy in Virginia did, he didn't pay his tolls that wound up to $400 now he owes over $200,000. Fines and penalties. Has to pay 150.00 a month Fo like 60 years. Once again karma wins.

Do the right thing or she will bite you in the ass!

That isn't how it works. I've worked at retail where we had stolen iPads on occasion. There isn't a way to track someone down using the serial number. So "starting it up" wouldn't do anything. The only thing the serial number will do in this circumstance is link it to the point of sale, which, in this case, there was none.

You seem to forget that the OP didn't rob a store, he ordered the item and had it shipped. The serial number is attached to the order which has his name and address. They know exactly who the serial number is supposed to belong to.

That said, Apple also says this...

It's good to read the posts in this thread which talk to the right and honest thing to do, but very sad to see so many posts in which the posters place such little value on integrity by trying to justify dishonesty. I guess as a society we are losing our integrity, and eventually it may be dropped from the dictionary.

Hopefully the OP will do the "Right" thing.

OP had his iPad 4 stolen recently.

That said, Apple will have said serial numbers linked to a name and address, and it wouldn't be all that difficult to tie a premises address to the IP the OP is using.

Don't call UPS, call Apple direct and see what they advise. Also note the date and time you called, and the name of the person who you spoke to.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
