Why stop when they are making profit? Are you crazy?

Because the iPad 2 is a dog compared to any of the other models. Apple is a quality brand; the mentality used to be that it didn't matter what Apple product you bought, as it would always be something that would last and was always fairly updated compared to last year's model.

This is nothing short of exploiting consumers who are paying far too much for a product that should arguably already be obsolete. I genuinely can't see how they can justify this pricing for an iPad 2. Apple claim to only sell products they'd use themselves. Say what you want, but Ive/Cook would be tearing their hair out if they were stuck with an iPad 2 as their only tablet.

iPads aside, I use Personal Pickup frequently.

It's such a convenient time saver.

Since you do it frequently, mind answering.. do you make your payment online beforehand, or can you wait until you get to the store and pay when you pick it up?

Personally, now that I've got a rMBP, I think I will upgrade to a mini retina which is more portable instead of the Air this time.

Plus you may be able get 5% back if you have a Discover card and go through ShopDiscover on your way to Apple.com. Did that with the ipad3, haven't tried it recently though so YMMV.

The name implies an impending iPad Pro product which will exist alongside the iPad Air product line.

They wouldn't need to have an Air and Pro. They had a MacBook with and without Pro, they could do that again.

Not to agree with you on the existence of a larger iPad.

Too bad I currently live no where near an Apple store. I guess I'll have to go to Best Buy. Some best buy stores might have in store pick up on launch days like they did with the iPhone 5S.

This message thread is about the ability to order online, and the release of the new(est) Ipad. So, I clicked on comments expecting to read a bit more about the subject at hand.

Instead, I open this and find lots of "stuff" about name, size, marketing, product line, etc etc. blah, blah, blah.

And, I thought I was bad at wasting time here.

Is Apple going to offer us the incredible iPhone 4s RAM at 512 MB like the iPad mini?

I don't know what to do with such a huge amount of memory. It reminds me of those amazing Pentium III systems.

Then you can open up one or two web pages whilst enjoying the usual reloading and re-opening of background apps, because Apple doesn't like to provide enough RAM because of ya, know... some tiny profit.

No. This iPad is much lighter than previous iPads. It's a much better upgrade than when they add a Touch ID.

iPad air is a huge upgrade in design from any of the previous models, the next version will add touch ID and A8 chip, basic upgrades you'd expect in an yearly update

There are probably some apple employees that would use it. Do they? Probably not because they know more about technology. Are you saying the 2 isn't a good tablet? Seems to work for people and they don't return it after 14 days. No one is being exploited? They choose to buy that tablet. They justify the price by one thing only, that people keep buying it. Is it Apple's fault?

What? I have and love my iPad 2. I prefer it over my Nexus 7 2013. And the bigger screen still trumps any other features my 5C might otherwise be superior at (when I need a bigger screen).

I am planning on getting the iPad 5, but it was not an easy decision. The iPad 2 still does everything I got it for just as well as it always did. In fact, the connector mismatch I now have between the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5C (I was on 4S) is a major factor that compelled me into upgrading.

The bottom line is that the iPad 2 is a great tablet. Even today. All its price does is make the iPad 5 feel like a steal to prospective buyers.

I'll be heading up around 7:30. Be a part of the festivities of a launch. Back home by 8:30 and spend the day "working from home" while I get to know my new iPad Air. ;)

I think Apple should retire the iPad 2 honestly and move on so developers can focus on the latest... I think the reason Apple keeps the iPad 2 around is because the iPad mini shares the same screen as the iPad 2.

I need 250 iPads for field reps.
They only run SalesForce and SingNow.

Why would I buy an iPad Air when I can buy an iPad 2 $100 less, get the same productivity, and save $25,000?????

It's cute that apple thinks setting up in store pick up means you don't have wait in line. The only thing in store pick up does is guarantee you a product.

You're not entitled to a lighter and thinner device. Apple does it to innovate not to piss you off with a name. Ever think there will be a pro version?

There might be. I'm annoyed because this is just a marketing ploy to get people more excited about a product that hasn't evolved that much.

And dude, I'm allowed to express my opinion. For decades products have all been striving to get thinner, lighter while packed with better specs. Following that trend and throwing a new name on a product is the type of marketing ploy I expect from Samsung. Not Apple.

That sure makes me happy. I'll order mine for store pickup at 12:01 and then calmly pick it up after work.
