It's cute that apple thinks setting up in store pick up means you don't have wait in line. The only thing in store pick up does is guarantee you a product.

It's cute that you have apparently never used personal pickup yet think you have to wait in line anyway. You don't.

Apple claim to only sell products they'd use themselves. Say what you want, but Ive/Cook would be tearing their hair out if they were stuck with an iPad 2 as their only tablet.

I am stuck with an iPad 2 right now and I still think it's great. It's thinner and lighter than the iPad 3 or 4. It is also nearly as fast (because of the missing retina display, which is the only downside imo).

But I wouldn't buy the iPad 2 again if I had to get a tablet right now, and I agree with what you said about the price beeing a rip off.

I think Apple should retire the iPad 2 honestly and move on so developers can focus on the latest... I think the reason Apple keeps the iPad 2 around is because the iPad mini shares the same screen as the iPad 2.

The iPad 2 is still being sold in large numbers to small retailers who used them as to register transactions. The cash register frames tha they use are only compatible with the 30 connector. Small buisness owners save a ton on the continued existence of the iPad 2.

this is true. i did this on launch with ipad3. woke up at 3am pre-ordrerd then that morning around 9am walked in and out in less than 5 minutes with my launch day iPad.

Let's see, To bed at 8:00, up at 11:45, Space Gray 64GB on order, back to bed at 12:15.
Maybe my boss won't even notice.
Unless things get bogged down and I'm up till 7:00 trying to place the order.
Then it might be a tough day

Oh..I get it. You are in the wrong thread.

Prepare to wait a long time and be disappointed if your wish ever comes true.

Meanwhile the rest of us have no real idea why you're all so crestfallen that TouchID is not a feature.

A) I generally do not care what others think. B) I like the feature on my 5S. C) I do not need an iPad so I do not mind waiting. D) Whom said that I was crestfallen?

I'm sure higher capacities will be in plentiful supply

Why make too many of the 16gb models widely available when Apple makes pure profit for every capacity above 16gb.

I.e. if you buy the 128gb model, you are buying a $499 iPad Air and giving Apple $300 pure profit, period.

I am sure the 16gb will NOT be in plentiful supply at launch, but their will be gobs of 128gb model's available enticing you to spend $300 more. Apple will boast "unprecedented" demand limits supply, but nobody in their right mind wants to spend $100s more for a little extra flash memory you could buy at Costco for $9.99.

Apple's pricing structure on iPad (and all their products in general) is criminal, I don't know why there isn't a class action lawsuit against them. I'll be waiting for the new Nexus 10.

I have used personal pick up. Even on a quiet night it took the employee longer to grab my item from the back than it would have for me to just grab it, pay, and leave. Sorry I'm not sorry. It's a joke.

Same-day pickup wasn't expected, so this is a nice surprise! I'll be taking advantage of it for sure.

I wonder if it is true that you really won't have to wait in line friday if you do in-store pickup. Have a hard time seeing that playing out.

Oh. Thank. Gd.

Scratching head as to why then Apple won't allow reservations before Nov 1 but I'll take what I can get.

Uh .....

You DO know that the type of flash storage used in the iPad is NOT the same thing as what's found in a $10 USB memory stick, right?? (See SLC vs MLC types of flash memory for the technical details, but for starters? MLC is only designed to handle about 5,000 rewrites before it wears out, while SLC goes 50,000+.)

Not disagreeing that Apple's makes an increasing profit on the larger capacity iOS devices, but it is a fact that the larger capacity storage used in them isn't so cheap that the markup amounts to "pure profit".

So, is there a possibility that I could camp out for this all night (because I think it is fun), and possibly not get any because people in my area could have reserved all of there supplies online?

From what I understand,no. They allocate so many for the store and so many for online pickup. Let's say they have 100 total at your local store......once 40 have been sold online for in store pickup their stock online will show "no longer available. Leaving a specific supply for those walking in. I know this because a apple employee educated me on this a few years ago.

I mean could you imagine at the 5th Ave store in NY with 400 people sleeping outside for days. To only have the store open up at 8am and they say "sorry we're sold out". They would riot in the streets...lol

It's been the exact opposite in past launches in my experience... plenty of 16GBs. The larger sizes, esp with wireless chip have been the ones in shorter supply. The 16GB are mostly for the first time buyers who want to "dip their toe."

As for Apple's pricing structure... class action suit? Funny. Whatever law school you went to it wasn't in the U.S. But if you don't like Apple's pricing structure you should see the likes of BMW and Audi who take and engine and tune it six ways to Sunday and charge thousands more for each HP and torque bump up. It's called marketing and every company does it when they can get away with it. Nothing dishonest about it. It's a free market and consumers decide what they want & how much they are willing to pay.
