Maybe it's just me but coming from SE1 to 12 mini I noticed the screen is worse on the eyes when scrolling text. Especially in dim or dark room. Probably a consequence of greatly increased contrast or a side-effect of OLED in general regarding moving text on screen, but it's a pity. I'm not in love with it. Black levels are cool, but still.
Have you tried it in dark mode?

I just want to mention PhOLED isn't really new. Its research goes as far back as late 2000s. Simply because of its theoretical potential. And we have long known Blue phosphorescent to be the problem. It is a bit like saying Solid Battery, but we dont quite know how to get there yet.

LG seems to take a different approach with Solid Encapsulation of White OLED along with other innovation that makes WOLED last longer. Which seems to closer.

It is interesting how many innovation are still being worked on with OLED, many are only a few years from commercial launch, others are may be a decade away. Compared to MicroLED which is still so far from consumer usage. This may be a case where OLED become so good MicroLED may never see the day.

Yes, the industry has been working on a phosphorescent blue for a very long time. Like with LED's the highest energy devices (blue) present the most difficult problems. A phosphorescent blue is pretty much the holy grail for the OLED industry and would mean we would see much broader adoption in tablets and laptops.

Besides any differences in display quality, OLED's are thinner than LCD's (and particularly mini-LED LCD's), and we know Apple will love that.

Oh yeah ?? According to these forums we were going to have a mini LED on the iPad Pro at the end of 2020! Because Apple has always refreshed their iPad Prod twice a year. Duh.

lol Just because you had bad luck?
Samsung makes THE BEST OLED panels for phones/tablets/laptops period.

for TV LG currently is the only one due to them owning a patent that makes it very costly for others to come up with their own tech, hence why everyone else (Sony,Philips,Panasonic etc ) are buying OLED panels from LG and Samsung been resistanting against OLED TV,although they have recently realised OLED TV is here to stay and proven best and decided to make their own.(Q-OLED)

I’ve had OLED panels made by Samsung and LG in MANY devices ,always top notch quality specially the ones made by Samsung.

What does “resistanting” mean?

Wouldn’t call it bad luck, just a **** company, if you’re going to sell millions of oled panels to a company at a premium price, make sure they work properly, before sending them off.
Isn’t that “company” responsible for better quality control too?
I’ve had brand new Macbook Pro from Apple with multiple issues, but I won’t call them **** because these things happen.

2 years is not much. Computers should last a lot more. I can’t imagine an oled screen with, lets say, 6 years of heavy use.
I’m sure it would have been fine if I kept it for 6 years.if was reasonably careful obviously.
I’ve had other devices with OLED display such as PS Vita console that was heavily used for 5+ years for long sessions gaming with logos, hud etc on screen and with no burn in.
Apple knows what they’re doing, the pros outweigh cons.

If all this OLED rumor is true, hope you are right. I still have my doubts. I don't like the idea of having to be extra careful with devices. On the other side, i love how OLED looks in my iphone, but i upgrade iPhones more often than computers and iPads.

One thing I don't get about OLEDs is why there's really tiny OLED displays, really huge OLED displays, but nothing in the middle.

Nobody makes an OLED TV below 50 or so inches, for example. This annoyed me because I needed to buy a TV around 42" and really wanted to get OLED but had no luck finding one.

Meanwhile phones and watches? TINY OLED displays.

What's the challenge in making medium-sized (12-48") OLED displays that there's just NOTHING in that segment?
Not only that, LG is the only manufacturer of consumer OLED TV panels. Even Sony and Vizio use panels from LG. It’s incredibly difficult to produce for whatever reason.

Normally this would have been welcome news, but Apple needs to figure out how to eliminate PWM from its OLED displays.

They’re coming. LG just announced 42” OLEDs, and what’s driving it is the fact that people have started using their 48” inch OLED as a computer monitor. As a film professional, I’ve looked into this as well because color correcting on an OLED screen is better than doing it on a $25,000 Flanders monitor. So the smaller OLEDs are coming, should be about six months. I’ll be first in line.
A 38" - 42" LG C1 would pretty much be the holy grail. I'm looking at getting the 48" for my setup but it feels just a little too big.

Give me eye-searing OLED with ABL so I can work outside! Does miniLED offer any improvement at all over LCD for text, which is 90% of what's on my macbook?
MiniLEd is LCD with miniLED backlighting for fine grain brightness control.
Confusing name.

Just as long as it has a reasonable amount of flickering....The PWM on the iPhone 12 mini drives me nuts (by which I mean hurts my head and eyes).

I call BS. Why would heavy rumors point to Mini LED for this years iPad Pro then OLED for next year. Apple is going all in on miniLED. It’s cheaper than OLED, less overall issues and image quality is very close to OLED.
I agree. Doesn't make sense.

Will it have the colour refraction thing? I really do see a huge difference in viewing angles with the current iphone12/ipad4 screens which look more matte and I hate it. When they used glossy screens like MBP 2015 and iPhone7 it was not noticeable.

I have a 13 inch OLED Alienware laptop ;-) So there are medium-sized displays.

Dell XPS15's have had OLED 4K screens for a while so I don't think it should too much of an issue for Apple to use them if they wish. I had one a year ago and it retailed for about $2000 with 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD. So the margins are there.

Same. LCD scrolling looks so much better to me. All moving text looks like it got hit with heavy motion blur or is being smeared until it comes to a rest
Painful isn’t it? I prefer the size of my SE1 so I’m switching back to it and selling my iPhone 12 mini. The motion-blur text problem made my decision even easier. SE1 gone for battery service.

2021 Mini-led iPad is 99% confirmed.

If this is the case, 2022 OLED would basically mean that the mini-led that Apple has been working for 2+ years was a failure.

Not going to happen. Ether this is for the Mini or something else.
+ Burn-in is problem still in the Macs.
