I just have to post this over from ai, it's hilarious, from a poster known as LTD here. In terms of "innovation being in Microsoft's DNA."

Yeah, Microsoft makes some truly revolutionary videos. They've totally shaken up the CGI concept-video market.

Has there been any confirmation from HP that their Slate won't run Win 7? Because if it doesn't I don't have to hope for a tablet I can use for anything productive this year.

I don't know how you can come to that conclusion without seeing and using the device or without any sales figures. They may have been competitive with the iPad, just like Android is competitive with the iPhone despite what people first said about it when it first was released.

It appears that the only people with access to those devices decided that they were unable to compete.

That doesn't say anything about how good the device is. Since people as a general are pretty dumb (take a random person of the street and it will with high probability be pretty dumb) you cannot count on them choosing the better product.

Well what do you think the reaction would have been if apple had messed up this bady
I'm only an authority on my own opinion. Beyond that it's speculation and usually pessimism.

Apple currently requires a certain level of masochism from me that I do not wish to participate in. Much less pay for such a privilege.

after months of vapourware media flooding?
Would you please enlighten me?

So you are saying those "developing" those "products" were some average dumb jo off the street and they couldn't assess the viability and potential of their products? And what exactly do you mean "how good the device really is". There were no devices, at best some barely functional prototypes. Again, there were no devices per se that we know of. You are comparing something existing like the ipad, with some fantasy land projects, which of course could have been great, because as we all know in fantasy land nothing goes wrong.

I have already done so, in my previous posts, they were lengthy and I made clear points there. Your post is also so cryptic I really can't add anything to it either.

There's a 50% probability they'll be smarter than the median intelligence too (for some meaning of the word 'intelligence'). People just seem dumb because they disagree with you; maybe you seem dumb to them.

I only took a passing glance at the Courier videos back in January. I don't remember any sort of mass media vaporware conspiracy until this thread and more specifically your posts most recently.

I did ask you to enlighten me. Do you have any proof for your claims? I'm simply not informed.

Go read the thread at ai, it's fun and hilarious, and it's completely called for, for all the trash talking apple gets from pc pundits and sites like engadgets, to see their two main competitors concurrently declaring the've been pulling the wool over the users with vapourware products, while at the same time paying everyone left right and center for an "opinion" to thwart the ipad train. This is as well as dishonest, and rather pathetic, really hilarious too. Not to mention if apple were in their place and had faltered so badly, they would get literally hammered for ages by the pc rags, and everyone would feel entitled to make them the laughing stock for months, even years, and this thread would 50 times it's size and be choke full of trolling. And suddenly you 've become so sensitive to hp and ms.
What would be the value for me in reading such a thread on AI?

Nah, im saying most consumers are dumb.

Of course there's 50% probability that they will be above or on the median intelligence, that is the definition of median. And no, random people do not seem dumb because they disagree with me, they seem dumb because they got a low IQ.

I will refer you then to the thread in ai for more proof of others perception of this, and to myriad idolatry posts, and articles in engadget and the other rags, by raving MS die hard fans and paid pundits. But as you can understand if you didn't follow it, my "proof" would suggest me digging up countless threads in the pc rags, posts in youtube, posts here etc. Too much of research project at hand, that is.

There was a lot of press coverage of the MS/HP Slate demo when they failed to head off the iPad announcement. It lost momentum because neither company could back it up with an actual product and they were crushed when Apple came in at a $499 starting price. They had the past couple of months to figure out how to compete. HP appears to be considering WebOS and MS is probably considering something, and perhaps they learned their lesson and won't talk about it till they can make something that works.

Were we not supposed to pay attention to CES 2010? Was it something to be ignored? We got tablets galore, a Courier CG demo, and HP on stage for 30 seconds. A few months later we get the hardware specifications for the HP Slate and now it's dead. I'm still attempting to grasp how that's some massive conspiracy against Apple.

Wow. You must be really smart. Practically everybody else is really really dumb. Can I got your autograph?

I really hope HP do not postpone the Slate and launch it with Win 7. Only tablet this year that seemed half decent.

Yes sure: 4 min boot up, 2h battery life. Inadequate GUI probably completed by a custom HP touch GUI skin that falls off the bridge every time you run a soft not thought of by HP (not their fault but inevitable when 3rd party solutions try to complement a whole OS). And you're forgetting about the Atom CPU heating up, coughing up its guts whenever you launch anything more than applets because of the Windows legacy. All that to run softs that have better touch-optimised iPad equivalent.

That was cool when the alternatives were WinCE PDA's, back in 2004. think of the Sony U mini XP touchscreen PC or the OQO.
But that was a 2004 concept, still available right now in many touchscreen PC (Archos 9?EeePC T?) if you want it.
I'd rather use a fast, power efficient 3G iPad with a real touch-screen GUI for serious computing on-the-go. i.e: the remote sysadmin tools I need+general computing apps, instant use, not thinking about finding a power source every 20 mins...

I never suggested a massive conspiracy, I merely pointed out an ill-conceived attempt at diverting attention. That is exactly what it was. MS and HP need to eventually learn that they can not compete with real products by announcing vapor wear.

Did you even see the absurd slate "Demo" that was replayed on the nightly news for several days? Why was it a bad idea? They had no product to sell and every story about the demo ended with a discussion about Apples upcoming announcement. I would have never used the word conspiracy, it was stupidity.

Not sure why you linked some weird post about MS bashing. I indicated Microsoft and HP engaged in an ill-conceived (and later stupid) strategy by announcing the product when they did. I hardly call that bashing..

I saw a working tablet on stage for a few seconds that was followed by a video and a sketchy 2010 release date. Apple didn't release the iPad back in January and the release date was up in the air for some time.

I only remember seeing a clip on the day of the HP demo on the national news. A few days before the iPad launch every channel blasts me with iPad propaganda and I'm insulted for lacking the intelligence to see a purpose for the iPad in my life.

It is possible to reply to two different posts and posters with one reply.

Perhaps your news is different :) Nothing you said disputes anything I pointed out originally.

They attempted to pre-empt Apples announcement, got blind-sided by the price and ultimately had to scrap the project. It was a bad strategy. It is impossible for anyone now to say it was a good strategy. It appears you are being contrary just for the sake of being contrary.

The true is, Apple's iPad has no life outside of Apple's ecosystem (iTunes, AppStore).

You can't install anything on it (not even a simple .txt or .pdf document) without iTunes.
