I disagree. This is the model I am buying, yet I'm fully submerged (to carry on the water theme :)) as I have bought about 20 apps already before even really getting to hold it. I just don't need a higher capacity that's all, I don't have a massive library and I am happy to sync if needs be. I would hardly describe paying £429 for a 1st gen device as 'dipping their toe', some people just don't need or want higher capacity or 3G. End semi-rant :)

Thats why it will be the most popular model I think. Those dipping their toe in the water it's the cheapest route. Note I said cheapest and not cheap :). But it will be still just as popular with people like yourself who just don't need the extra capacity. This is the model my wife has. Though it is on loan to me until Friday when I get mine. It's for this reason I said I thought it would be the one they run out of first. Unless they did some second guessing too.

Oh I completely agree it will sell out first and be the most popular, we can see that the 16Gb was the first model to have it's delivery date slip to just 'June'. Sorry for my slight over-reaction, as I know you know, it's been a tense weekend for Apple nerd-kind .

I am in a funny position. I have a 16G iPad here which is officially my wifes. I bought it for her nearly a month ago now via an offer for someone on here coming back from America. She is quite happy for me to use it until I get my 3G one on Friday. But I just can't get into it. It keeps reminding me, it's not mine therefore I haven't set up exactly how I want the screens. I didnt join the US iTunes club either. I feel a bit in limbo waiting for my own. You will be pleased though, they are an amazing device. My son didn't wait he got a 32GB wifi via eBay along with a case. I think it cost him about £50 more than it would here. He is happy though.

@ boblister: glad that your's on it's way too. Welcome to the

club :D

I think the apple stores in Germany will be out of stock by noon (maximum) on Friday. We've got 80 mill people, just 4 apple stores. And apple was underestimating even in the us.

(and I propose you start downplaying the advantages of 3G to your wife immediately unless you want to keep the 16 wifi...)

Worked on that already :). She has her eyes on my 3GS when the new iPhone comes out.

Yesterday I was sat at a table outside at a pub enjoying a pint in the blaring sun. Luckily we were in the shade with one of those big table brolly things. But I was using the iPad with a MIFI device. I was amazed how easy it was to read still with the brightness turned right up.

@Tinnitusdoc

I was just wondering have you been able to get your tracking to work? Is yours sent with TNT Nederland as well?

Anyone had the 16gb wifi for a while from ebay or wherever and regret not getting the 32gb version?

I use my 8gb touch everyday and so thought 16gb on the soon-to-arrive ipad would be more that enough. I just have music and photos on the touch. Screen far too small for movies I reckon. I put some on a while back but never got to watch any! Very few apps on there.

I just want a bigger touch basically.

I guess they will be a good few on ebay soon if people realise there's much more you can do with an ipad and 16gb is not enough.

My son opted for the 16GB iPhone 3GS when it came out whereas I got the 32GB one. He regrets it now as he seems to be struggling for room. He keeps a large photo album on there. For this reason he went for the 32GB iPad. He would have got the 64GB one but had limited funds and the 32GB came up as an offer. Myself I have opted for the 64GB with the thought, although I can't see me using all that now. If I do need it in the near future I will be disappointed.

You can never have too much room/space/memory :)

You will probably be proved correct and I will kick myself for not going for the 32gb at least.

It was much easier to get the okay from the wife for the cheapest model if you know what I mean. She wasn't to pleased when I bought a new mac mini last month to replace my old G4 version that didn't support the ipad.

Too late to change it now as it's winging it's way to me as we speak. Or so I think if UPS get their act together!

@richardmu

I totally agree with boblister on the "never to much memory"

With the iPad I now have a 32 gig wifi, space left now is 10 gigs and I have it for just two weeks...

I highly recommend buying the airvideo app, so you can stream all the movies on your computer over wifi or 3G without having to worry about conversion settings and you don't have to worry about memory space on your iPad either.

I have a 16 gig iPhone with the navigon app and it really bothers me to update it because ii always have to delete something first as the navigon app is 2 gigs (eagerly waiting for the 64 gig ihpone 4g...)

You must have a massive music collection

I have a 16gb iPhone 3GS and have just under 2000 songs on it and I still have a good 5gb free even after all my apps

I will be getting an iPad 32gb 3G on Friday but know that I will be unlikely to use half of that over the next year

Well...
Actual capacity of the 32 gb is only 29. I've got 9 gig music, 3 gig photos, 4 gig apps, about 3 gig of educational movies I don't want to stream.

I bought the iPad as a "recreational device" but I find myself using it almost all the time (and the moment I put it down one of my kids jumps at it...)

I agree with the Airvideo app comments. It is brilliant. I have no intention of storing more than one video on the iPad and Airvideo let's me get at my collection of videos on my NAS.

Well I know I don't need a lot of space. I'm getting the 16GB 3G which will be fine for me. I have a first gen 16GB Touch which isn't even half full...

Apple Regent ST

Just got off the phone with Apple Regent St (London)

They said they will be opening from 8am instead of 9am for the ipad on May 28th. I asked if they were anticipating large and long queues. The dude said they were, and Apple had gotten a permit from the council to accommodate queues and crowds of up to 20,000 people

He said that a similar thing had happened with the iphone launches with one guy being at the top of the line for 3 days then selling his spot. I pointed out that a lot of people got their iphones free on contracts or on upgrades and that the ipad starting at £429 isn't that cheap to the average mainstream consumer.

He also said that they would have loads in stock and if i turned up at 8am I would still get one despite the queues.

crowds of up to 20,000 people

Jesus wept!

Just a question about payment, sorry people. Since my debit card wouldnt work, I used my fathers credit card. Since it has shipped, can I put my debit card details back into itunes for buying apps? I dont wanna affect payment of the iPad.

Haha sorry, better to ask than to ruin anything.

To be honest I would hang fire. My money hasnt been taken yet. If it goes tits up because of a card change for the sake of a few days I don't think you will be too pleased. Why not just grab free apps for now. Or make a note of them. You cant do much with them anyway, can you?

How are they going to fit 20,000 people into one store ? or will they stagger it ? let 100 in at a time or something

If there is like they are expecting 20,000 there at 8am it will be chaos
