Surely a weekend release makes more sense and easier for a lot of people to get down to the stores and get their hands on it instead of waiting for the weekend or having to take a day off work for it!!

Yeah it does... unless they're worried about not being able to meet demands. Smaller queues are easier to satisfy! :-(

geting so so sick of the whole thing.
why is it so much to ask, just the price and the date.

and i want a 3g one not wifi probably be still waiting by the time the new iphone come out. :(

It's getting a bit much when their are US bods breaking iPads on purpose, talking about blending them, et al. And still in the UK we've got, effectively, jack pish.

It reminds me of what my mother used to say when I didn't eat all my dinner as a kid - "There's kiddies in Africa would be grateful for that !!" (It only occurred to me in later years to reply, "There's kiddies right here in the UK who would be too" - which got me a slap the first time I said it).

Come on you iPad destroyers, there's people in the UK who would be grateful for that. ;)

All these he-said-she-said rumours - until I hear it from Apple themselves I'm just going to have to take them with a massive ocean's worth of salt. The anticipation is damn near killing me and not doing my blood pressure any good (lol).

Big Advantage in getting late delivery in the UK

It seems a few issues are emerging from early users of the iPad, namely weak Wi-Fi signal strength and slow charging. This being the case there is a least a slight advantage in being involved in a later launch as Apple will hopefully have sorted these problems and any others that emerge before they hit our shores.

well said revision 1 products are usually buggy

Just got a text from my niece, who works in the Newcastle store, and that they did have a briefing this lunch time, but there was no mention of price yet. She put that she will find out more info next week, and that the public get info on prices/availability in ~2 weeks.

I find the no pre-orders, no reservation rumour on the previous page hard to believe. There just aren't enough Apple Stores in the UK to work it that way -unless, of course, Apple really have stopped giving a **** about many of their customers who don't live in a major UK city.
There is no way in hell that I will take a Friday off work and make a 200 mile round trip (and queue up all night) without some guarantee that I'll even get what I'm looking for -all at a cost of £xxx (oh, that's right, we still don't know prices).

I'm telling you, Apple are pissing a lot of people off right now -but hey, at least the Yanks are happily blending, smashing and breaking their iPads all over YouTube.

Whilst I'm not 100% convinced by the rumours, I can see how they might make sense, if not become very annoying to the UK tech crowd.

However, if they allow online purchases on the 30th as well, it would probably keep most people happy.

I'm now considering importing, although I'll at least hold out until Thursday to see what news that brings.

No preorder's a bit of a pisser. Still, I work in central Glasgow so can pop out the office for a "coffee" and hopefully bag a 'Pad...

Availability might be OK: when the 3GS came out there were widespread rumours of shortages but I wandered into our local Apple Store and picked one up after work, it wasn't even busy. Depends if the "limited supply" rumours are true or not I suppose. I'd be surprised if they didn't let people pre-order online though, it would make sense in terms of managing stock levels.

That's a third generation device though, many people were still in contract for their 3g, there wasn't that initial rush.
This is the first iPad anyone will get a shot at. The demand on launch day will be like the 3g launch day demand, ie, it will be out of stock fast.

Agreed. A device that they tout as being the ultimate in web browsing not being available to pre order online at their own online store ? That would be a stellar idea, - not.
However, the 3gs wasn't available for pre order either. So, whofeckinknows.

So if this is true, and we really are getting the iPad at the end of April as well, then it looks like we won't have much time between getting the info and getting the product.

Be interesting if there is a stock shortage to see how many of what model come out. More chance of getting a 16Gb one because everyone wants a 32 or 64? Or more chance of getting a 64Gb one because no-one can afford it?

Hmm so you say the newcastle store has had a briefing eh? i may pop in tomorrow and ask them some stuff. Its the only decent store in the new eldon square lol... bored of all the clothe shops they have.

So I called the "got questions just ask" number just got off phone they now have a dedicated press 2 to talk about ipads which they didn't have before, but the guy said that it won't be announced until mid april for sure and coming out very late april. (sorry not breaking news)
So i asked why the delay and he said it was because of the different laws over here. One of the things was head phone volume restrictions and another was the licensing law in regards to some apps which I guessing is the book store?!! and a bunch of other things??

Not sure those things sound like legit reasons or not but think I'm going to bite the bullet and get one from the states this week!

<sigh> Don't say that. 3G stocks and re-stocks were a nightmare. I queued for hours on release day.

The real **** about that day was the lack of information. o2 told me they had lots of stock, I was 5th in line and they sold out of 16gb's by the time I got served, then apple were refusing to tell me if they even had stock in
stores, so I didn't know whether or not it was a wasted journey travelling for one.
Hope they handle this better!

Sod it

had enough sorry apple I'll buy my son something else.

Not that apple care or will miss my money. But a girl got to draw the line somewhere.

There was absolutely no need for all of this lack of information.

Wow! Just read through the last few pages of the thread. My heart sank when I read 20th...just for prices?

As each day goes with no info I feel a little more like a 2nd rate customer to Apple.

I go through patches with this thing, after the release over the weekend I was sure I wanted one. Then I was reading about the wifi issues and got put off a little. Then I wanted one. The longer this goes the more likely I'll be to use my cash on something else! Hurry up apple

Tell me about it! I spent hours queueing as well from 6:30am. I was 6th or 7th in line - only to be turned away with a shrug from the obnoxious ****s at the O2 store.

That was a very dark day for my relationship with Apple! I threw my toys out of the pram, managed to pull some strings with a couple of friends who work at The Times, and they interviewed me and printed a half page story on how horrific the experience was. ;)

We later befriended one of the guys in our local Carphone Warehouse and he told me that both they and the local O2 store had received two 16GBs each for the launch day. Utterly ridiculous. And I have vowed now never to queue for anything from Apple on launch day!
