I don't see how people would rather have the app anyways. the iPad can display the full site from safari with easy and using the FB app from my iPhone drives me wild sometimes. Put the FB safari bookmark on your homepage and you're done.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I was reading this thread. Why on earth does anyone need a Facebook app?? To change your profile picture?! You can even upload pics through your own special upload email address Facebook gives you. We don't need a Facebook app to get on Facebook and we don't need AOL to get online......oh wait-that was another argument lol

He´s right. iPad should have the same full internet experience like MBA/MBP. It´s very crippled now for the size of the device.

I think MZ is missing the point anyway. Who gives a rat's butt if it's a mobile device or not? That's not the issue. The freaking thing primarily is designed for and uses Apps.

Besides, it's NOT a computer. One cannot install basic software on it.

Design the d*mn app Zuck!

Mike

MZ: create the damn app and stop nonsense about iPad not being mobile. SJ is probably pissed by now bcz he claims Apple is the #1 mobile devices company that includes iPad.

Mobile- Moving or capable of moving readily (especially from place to place) last time I checked my iPad is more than ready to be moved from place to place with relative ease.

Its not a mobile phone (which is what he is referring), but it is a mobile computer. His definition of mobile is just narrow.

iOS is Mobile

Since the discussion is about software, it's totally clear that iPad runs an OS designed for quick access portability (ie. a mobile OS). The cover page article suggests they're waiting for a unified Tablet experience, a third category, and I feel that's a short-sighted mistake. I think Steve's right that other tablets (mainly 7 inchers envisioned at present) are going to suck and they shouldn't be lumped in with the iPad, as they'll be much closer to a Zuckerberg-defined 'mobile' device.

It's astonishing that such a prominent company can miss this opportunity. Multi-tasking on iPad is neigh, why on Earth aren't they first in line to give an upgraded app that enables chatting and uploading photos? Think maybe they want to add in another feature or two and charge for it? They are hard up for revenue schemes...

This is why some people should never speak off the script.

All he had to say was "We don't consider iPad to be part of our mobile platform. We're working toward a Web-based solution instead of an app." Hell, all he had to do was say PLATFORM and it wouldn't have sounded so dumb.

He's right. And honestly, I wish a couple of others wouldn't treat the iPad as as a mobile platform too. Spotify being a major example.

I completely agree with him. The iPad is *slightly* more mobile than a laptop but it is not anyway near as mobile as a smartphone. I don't carry my iPad around with me because it is just too big. Same reason I never carried a laptop around with me unless I needed it for class or whatever. My phone is with me everywhere.

As far as facebook on the iPad...I think that the combination of browser + iPhone app works well enough. I use the browser for browsing it and if I need to upload photos (which I have only done once because I was testing out the camera connection kit) I use the facebook app. I can't see a lot of people being out and about wanting to use an iPad to upload pictures to facebook. The uploading pictures thing is mostly for hey I'm at this party and I'm going to take this picture and upload it to facebook right now...I mean the pictures default to a "mobile" album. Who brings their iPad to a party so they can take pictures with their camera, plug in their camera connection kit, and upload photos? Also, can't you just e-mail photos to your facebook address to have them show up on your profile?

Why should they have to make new apps for every device that comes out when if they wait...they can make a universal web based one? For things like facebook, this actually makes the most sense.

If you don't like it, stop using facebook or get a device that supports all of the features you want to use on facebook.

I don't see how it isn't mobile, but that is his opinion. What he can't deny is that it is a completely touch driven device and facebook could definitely benefit from an interface designed for touch.

With the growing tablet market does facebook really want to stay all point and clicky?

I don't follow your logic. FB has apps for most touch-based smartphone OSes. How exactly is it all point and clicky?

You people get dumber every day, now your crying because some nerd thinks the ipad isn't a mobile device.

Just use friendly facebook guys. If Zuckerberg doesn't want to release a iPad app then thats up to him. Doesn't stop other developers making them :)

Friendly Facebook has a UGLY user interface.

I really hope for a specific HTML5 version of Facebook for tablets.

I actually quite like it. I can upload pics and use chat. Its certainly much better than using the iPhone version scaled up. Plus its nice and cheap.

Of course the app is really useful, but, you know, I'm a graphic interface designer and I love the Apple UIs, from OS X to the iOS calendar.

The aesthetical look is always of primary importance.
Consider that a lot of apps are selling well just for awesome and pixel-precision User Interfaces.

I prefer to access FB for reading and navigating from Safari, rather than the FB App.

The only reason I use the FB App is to upload pics to FB from the iPad.

If the ipad isn't mobile, then I am the pope.

Zuckerberg is an idiot.

The iPad isn't mobile in the sense that most people only use it at home. It's not the sort of device that you put in your pocket or use on a sunny day in the park (because you couldn't read anything on its display). In fact, there are a couple of million iPads out there that are still looking for some real world use except for making their owners believe that it is "awesome, beautiful, magical". And Zuckerberg is not an idiot for understanding this.

i agree with zuckerberg , the iPad is a tablet computer , it is mobile yes but not many are used outside the home
and if i am not wrong you can like everyone else use a webbrowser to access facebook , so where is the problem ???
i think the need for a special facebook app is app mania gone insane , at the end of the day facebook is a WEBSITE

i just view facebook in safari. it works perfectly.
if you really want to upload a picture from your ipad, just use the iphone app to upload the picture.
i mean, how often are you uploading pictures to facebook from a device that cannot create pictures?

Of course the ipad isn't a mobile phone. It is still a mobile device that people can carry with them much more easily than a net book or laptop.
I don't think that many ipads are sitting there with no real use. Millions of people are happy using them all the time. Businesses love them! You can see all kinds of usages for the iPad. Even the military uses them, so please don't tell us that the ipad don't have any real world usage. This is simply not true.

What really posses me off is that since the iPad runs the same OS as the iPhone, it shouldn't be that difficult to make a nice iPad Facebook client...

he probably didn't mean mobil in the literal sense. he probably ment that if u have a cellphone y in the world would u take out your ipad to use Facebook .

and if he did mean it literal he should kill himself

i use facebook with fullforce and it makes it bigger screen. I like the facebook app because it gives me notifications (well sometimes).

I can't figure out why I only get some notifications with the app though that discussion is for another thread.
