This was the greatest personal computer company in the world before it turned into an iToy show.

That was a time when people had to use bulky computers to send emails. Time have changed and companies like Apple have to adapt. "iToys" (as much as you hate them) can get the work done for majority of the people just as good (to not say even better) as computers do.

And not to mention ANYWHERE ;) Not just in your bedroom.

Nah, he got it from Anna Wintour at Vogue. :D

He? It's clearly she ;)

I am unusually excited about this event for some reason. I feel like there's going to be something that we haven't heard much about yet.

iWatch?

Could they possibly run a demo of iWatch, something that "covers" the wrist? Can't let Samsung have the first mover title so easily right?

I was hoping for this at one point too, but Apple dropped the ball. Haswell is old news, Broadwell is shipping in just a few months time. They didn't need a ******* press conference to release a spec bump. It should've happened in June. End of story.
You know it's so "amazing" that my retina MBP that was purchased way back in July 2012 is still the newest and greatest MacBook Pro from Apple :D

No actually the article is completely correctly. A news site reported the date, that accurate. Jim confirmed the date, that is also correct. Your typical pedantic efforts that you carry out of every thread about Apple events aren't aren't even accurate in this case.

Jim can't officially confirm the date though. He can only unofficially confirm it as he is not Apple.

Sure they can. Apple will just have the best mover title. Doing it right is better then doing it first.

Surfboards

The design of the invites and the window stickering going up looks like different coloured surfboards - a reference to Mavericks perhaps, being a surfing location in California?!

You have 64gb of apps?

Why not? There are a quite a few of apps (obviously most of them games) which use over 1GB. Just two examples from my "collection": Asphalt 7 uses 1.3GB. Infinity Blade 2 uses 1GB. And then there are a lot of apps which come in around 0.5GB (e.g. both Lego Harry Potter parts). I think it is quite easy to get to 64GB if you're an avid gamer.

The question is of course if you really need to have all of these apps on your iPad at all times.

Why not? Apple also didn't create the first smartphone or the first tablet, just the first smartphone or tablet that worked in the way that I would have expected.

Now a lot of companies are releasing bulky smartwatches with short battery lives, and that is not what I would expect from a smartwatch. I really doubt that Apple would add just another device like that to the market. And I also doubt that they have something technologically different right now.

Never quite understood why people actually pay money for the Apple monitors...they are extremely overrated...the glossy screen, there's also a good chance you have a yellow tinted screen (people are complaining about this for years but that obviously doesn't matter to Apple)...etc.

I could have bought a nearly new 24" cinema display for 120$, tryed it out for 20 min. i could have placed a mirror on my desk and the result wouldn't have been allot different

For the same amount of money you can get a monitor thats without a doubt better than the cinema display, ofcourse you wouldn't be as cool as you where before.

So what you're saying is, he's an insufferable person who can't handle seeing people he doesn't know on sites he doesn't have to read speaking with certainty, and it apparently bothers him so much that he has to give people a hard time about something this trivial, because it's a pet peeve to him.

And it's not just analysts and tech bloggers. The rumors about the new iPads came from credible sources, (and by "rumors" I am also including "actual photographs of parts from a new iPad, being shown at roughly the same time frame as when the 5C leaks came out prior to the official announcement") and are being circulated because it seems like the definitive outcome.

Yes, technically we could all be wrong and this month's keynote could highlight a new iMac instead of a new iPad. Just like technically you shouldn't frequent Apple rumor sites if you can't handle people speaking unhypothetically about new products.

I get your point, I wasnt meaning to stand up for his argument - I agree its almost certain that this is an ipad event. I was just playing as the devils advocate. From my point of view, it really does annoy me especially as English is my second language, and I understand those sorts of words should be only used where there is certainty. But usually I dont find the need to post about it, as its just my opinion. I only posted it here as I was more or less curious whether this person felt the same way, and also I thought we shouldnt be too critical of him, if he comes from the similar direction as me.

Do you think there will be a new Mac Mini?

Btw, Why aren't the Cinema displays as thin as the iMac displays?

Retina mini in gold. All hell would brake loose.
IMHO that would be the most coveted tech in the world.

I always thought the Mini's were designed for women, so then can fit it in a handbag. Amazing marketing by Apple, convincing people they need every form-factor of iOS device!

I think Apple has milked the storage for long enough, it's time to up the sizes for the iPad.

I can easily fill my 64GB iPad with just apps..... forget about movies, music, and photos.

The sizes should be 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB for the next generation. If they plan to unveil the 64bit chip, then give people some space to work with. If it truly is a creation device, and not just a consumption device, then people need more storage.

Dude iPad already is 128GB...

Looking back, I reckon it was also the iOS SDK release that changed the world, not just the original iPhone release.

When iPhone came out I knew the world was changed and bought AAPL :)

I remember doing Symbian and Flash-Lite development on flag-ship Nokia N95 "smartphones" around 2006/2007 and boy was it a major pain. Some carrier's versions of the firmware allowed an app to use 8MB of RAM, whilst other capped it at 3MB. The N95 had 128MB RAM but developers could only access a pitiful amount of it.

The iPhone 3G in 2008 also had 128MB RAM but allowed developers access to a ten-fold increase of RAM usage for apps (over 30MB). A year later with the 3GS that vastly increased again, apps could now reliably access over 120MB of RAM.

I was planning on getting an LG Prada touchscreen phone for doing more Flash stuff on (yes a touchscreen mobile before the iPhone, and it's UI was written in Flash). But the iOS SDK came out so I dived head-first into Objective-C instead.

So I guess the Nexus 7 is designed for women then too?

lalalala
crossing my fingers for an entirely new product lineup/something mind blowing. :D

Sorry, the time for actual secrecy has passed. The leaks for the iPad and iPhone have showed us all that. The only exception I can think of is the Mac Pro, but I'm not sure that the lack of "leaks" is because it's already been announced or not.

Cook is overseeing incremental advancements, and long drawn out launches. I'm pretty, like the iPhone/iPad, we'll be seeing pics of the iWatch and iLCDTV every step along the way.

There are definitely new MBA's coming. Ordered 4 at the beginning of the week for a client. Should have shipped in 1 business day. Received notification this morning from Apple (in Dutch) that the shipping date has changed and these will now ship on October 23rd...

Just hoping that this one brings plenty of refreshed devices that sell themselves on their quality and content, requiring less (lets be honest, cliché) videos of slowly, soft spoken senior Apple staff trying to convince us that average things have been "unashamedly perfected".

All being well a new rMBP and ipad mini will be an early Christmas present from me to me.

And that everything (or at least iPad 5 :p) will be delivered in a week after an order, and not in the next year

Interesting. There's lots of colour in the banners but I haven't seen any reports suggesting that they're planning to launch any coloured products so I wonder what the colour means. Presumably the iPads will follow the same muted colours as the iPhone 5s and the Macs will almost certainly be silver or maybe space grey if they get a facelift. They usually put some hidden clues into their graphics but maybe not this time.

Keep dreaming. This update is bigger than Mountain Lion. But even that was only £30. You'll have to pay for it, but it won't cost an arm and a leg. So to speak.

I wouldn't say it's dreaming. $19 isn't much at all but I think Apple would benefit more from having more people upgrade to the latest OS than from the cash they'd bring in.

I hope you are right I have been holding off purchasing a rMBP for 6 months.

I know you were speaking hypothetically, but Apple just recently (quietly) released new iMacs on on 9/24: https://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/24/apple-updates-imac-with-haswell-and-faster-pcie-flash-storage/

I kinda doubt that since the MBA's are already updated to Haswell, they were the first lineup to get updated. So I would think MBP or rMBP would be more likely.
