I can see straight away from that BBC football website that gamut has been fixed! Trust me, the amount of times I've been in the Apple Store comparing using this yellow at the top of the site is ridiculous.

That yellow is a great indicator.

Thanks for the pics... :) Could you, please, take a look at the infamous yellow tint issue and especially at the backlight bleed problem? (Most visible in dark background and surroundings) I can't wait to see if these annoying issues still occur even in this new iPad Mini... :p

Of course no pressure... ;) Do it when you're willing to do it...
I'd also like to know this if possible! Just ordered a 128Gb cellular model, I returned so many iPad mini 2’s and 3’s due to this horrible yellow tint issue, and ended going with an air 2 in the end. Really hoping this new air 2 quality screened mini 4 has finally done away with the horrible yellow tint

=) Great to hear! I will want to confirm with my own eyes, and/or see what Displaymate says. But I am now almost positive I'll be buying a Mini 4 now.

Yes, I can confirm that the S2 has poor battery life. I gave it a shot as it had good potential. The display is gorgeous, the light and thin design is incredible, performance is really good (fast and smooth). Battery life is less than stellar and Android's apps optimized for tablets leaves something to be desired. Anyway, the display is simply awesome...so eager to compare against the mini 4.
I'm still in the process of setting up the Mini 4, but wanted to pass along some initial observations:
-Fantastic build quality
-Feels great in the hand, enough bezel on sides and bottom to hold comfortably.
-no noticeable "book spine" effect. Screen is very much uniform.
-can't speak to performance....just getting started!!

More on the display: Now, I'm comparing against the iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy tab S2, so the competition is stiff! That said, the colors definitely appear (to my eye) to be a fuller gamut (i.e. I had both the Mini Original and Mini 2....so I'm well aquantied with the gamut issues). However, the overall colors seem a bit muted to my eye....compared to the 6 Plus and Samsung...just not as lively/vivid. So, not 100% sold just yet that the color gamut has been fully addressed. Will be interested to see Displaymate review.

When I get back to Atlanta tomorrow, I can compare against my wife's Air 2. Just wanted to pass along my initial observations.

One more observation.....back gets very warm with just mild web use!

Excellent info. Thank you.

I know the Samsung S2 will be much better for screen quality -- I've seen them in stores and nothing compares to those Samsung OLEDs. If I didn't prefer iOS and the battery life didn't matter, I'd strongly consider one. Hopefully the Mini 4 screen will get a Displaymate eval soon.

Your last point may explain why they didn't use the 8X variant -- maybe it got too hot inside the small Mini chassis?

Good point about the a8x. Also wanted to add that I had the display set up in full brightness for a while (i.e. Testing the mini's brightness against the 6plus, which is just excellent and the he Samsung...excellent too), if I had to guess, I'd say that the color gamut is up from th previous mini's (low 60 %), but not up to the level of the best displays (100% plus). I'm guessing the he Mini 4 is more like 80ish. The purples still look a bit off....shifted to more blues than purples. Just one man's opinion!!

Ugh. (In a Star Trek: Wrath of Khan voice) Appppplllleee!!!!

Had it in my cargo shorts pocket and when walking around I really couldn't tell it was there. I always could tell with my Rmini though from back when.

The Mini 4 does get a little warm while using but really not hot for it to be of concern. I played a game for a half hour straight so that should be a good enough test for it initially.

I hear you! I bought a 64GB Air 2 today as well. Staples has them on sale this week for $499. I'm going to keep it boxed up until I fully evaluate the Mini. My back up plan! The only thing that has me concerned on any level about the mini 4 (so far) is the display (colors). They just still seem to be on the muted side for my taste. There is something that appears to be a bit "washed out". Still need to compare directly against the Air 2 though. That will be a good test.

Some of these "pro" (PC Mag is pretty high profile) tech journalists are just embarassing to watch. He says it's the same hardware as iPad Air 2 inside, but no, we all know it is not by now. Even Apple's own website clarifies that. Furthermore, he has the S2 right there in hand and never thinks to turn BOTH screens on for comparison.

Perfect example of why I depend far more on forums and fellow users than so-called journalists.
I understand where your coming from but perhaps he'll give us more in several days.

When you turn the brightness all the way down, how dark does the screen get. I want to be comfortable reading and watching videos in the dark. Thanks.

I was guessing the A8X could cause a heat issue, and just from my use the past few hours, I did notice it gets quite hot.

"Washed out". Oh crap, this isn't good. I genuinely thought they look good but two people have now said they still look washed out.

To be fair, I am comparing against two outstanding displays: iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. These are two fantastic displays. I want the add the Air 2 into the test mix (tomorrow night when I get back to Atlanta). Still, the Mini 4 does seem a bit washed out in terms of color and clarity. By the way, I'm sensitive to this as I've owned the Mini O and Mini 2....so I've suffered through 2 years of Mini use with washed out muted colors. The Mini 4 appeares better, but still seems to fall a bit short....to my eye!

Jeez. I can't believe they did not fully address the color gamut.

I was at the AppleStore today dealing with time capsule issue and almost bought a mini 4 but so glad I waited.

I am sad about this, so I will be interested to see what you say after comparing it to the Air2.

BTW, the Mini4 should be as good iPhone 6+/Galaxy Tab2, no reason it should not have a full color gamut given its price point.

I agree. The Mini 4 display should be at least as good as these two displays. To me, it looks like the Mini 4 is falling a bit short. Maybe I'm wrong? It's subtle, and it may not matter to many, but that's the way it appears to my eye (i.e. Initial response).

The smart cover for the rmini will offer protection while not in use as it holds unto to Mini 4 at least. The magnetic is fairly loose though.

I was able to get it to stand horizontally with the cover but that would only be to read from it. Any pressure applied to the screen and the Mini 4 will topple.

I am not going to go crazy with comparisons to other displays. Buy it and try it if interested. I understand that it isn't as easy to return it for some but that isn't my situation. In my usage during the day today, the display was fine. And for millions who held unto the rmini, it was fine for their use as well and it outsold the larger iPad at the time so .....

No it won't. The the Samsung display is a completely different kind of screen. Nothing Apple makes will ever look as punchy good as the super amoled display. I llved with 3 Galaxy Tab S displays over the past months, the super amoled displays have their own issues. Massive power Hemorrhaging for one with the Tab S and even worse with the Tab S2.
That aside, isn't it a little quick to jump on the conclusion that Apple didn't improve the mini4 display???? I don't know, I think he maybe missing the boat on this one. Check out Cnets review of the Mini4. The display looks incredible. Even Cnet is suggesting it could be Apple's biggest sleeper hit this year.

Battery life a bit suspect too. 100% charge at 6pm. It's now 9:44pm and I'm down to 20% (3:45 of web browsing).

Yours isn't even in the ballpark of being in spec. Perhaps you have a bad battery.

Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‑Fi, watching video, or listening to music

Up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network

Charging via power adapter or USB to computer system

IDK, some of these reviewers are very questionable. He mentions almost in passing the screen is better. IMHO, the color deficiency on the older iPad Mini was horrible, it makes me so skittish on the Mini 4.

The OP has used/owned the older iPad mini's and his opinion on the color gamut is better but still dull. I personally tend to trust someone who has used iPad mini 2/3. The color gamut was so dull on the older models it was sad.

I'd be more interested in hearing other users actual experience with battery performance than in Apples posted specs at this point. We're all just trying to evaluate for ourselves what we've been sold.

Me too as I am going to be putting mine through its paces tomorrow. But 50% of actual spec battery life for only web surfing isn't exactly a subjective performance measurement. That is a huge difference.
