Anyone remember when Steve was in charge and you genuinely thought he wanted the best experience for users, instead of penny-pinching Timothy....
Revisionist history...

And him giving everyone a free case to "fix" the "issue"
You left out the part that it was a month after the iPhone 4 was released and after Apple (and Jobs specifically) repeatedly denied or minimized that there was a problem that they offered that program.

That doesn't excuse what is happening with this iPad mini 6 issue (or even the many software issues the new products seem to have), but the over glorifying of the past is annoying sometimes.

Not an issue for reading books and comics, because you scroll those right-left. You only see this issue if you scroll up-down.
True but that won't be the only things I intend to use the mini for. Browsing too, which this "issue" would be put on the spot light.

I don't remember these types of issues happening so frequently. Seems like there's always some issues now.
if you go back to previous years, there was always one small issue or another for new products that would invariably be resolved. And without fail there’s always someone complaining about Apple having so many issue this years compared to previous ones.

This is moving into 'Gate' territory. Which should get Apple's attention.

The screen is not the best, but the 5's screen wasn't much better, and this new screen is larger.

My feeling is that after a certain point I don't care. Screens have improved in general, to the point of overkill. But this issue may be serious.

I‘ve no idea how authentic this info is, but this site claims that: “Apple has responded to complaints from iPad mini 6 users about quality issues with the tablet, which just went on sale last week. The Cupertino-based company said it is still investigating the situation and cannot yet say exactly what is causing the problem and when the situation will be corrected.”

I have the issue on my Mini 6 but it's not nearly bad enough to make me want to return the device. Maybe it's my eyes are less sensitive, but I've showed it to 3 other people and all agree that it's very minor. And the issue only emerges in very specific situations that represent a tiny fraction of what I do with the device.

Turns out my 11" iPad Pro (early 2020 model) has the same issue, though to a lesser extent. I've been using it for nearly 1.5 years and never noticed it.

If you've ordered a Mini 6 from Apple (or other seller with no hassle return policy), I suggest you do not cancel your order; wait until you see whether it's a problem on your unit. A lot of people have said they either can't see the issue on their Mini 6 or they can but, like me, don't find it bothersome in the few situations in which it is visible.

But many people find it intolerable, so be sure to check the return policy before purchasing.

I’m holding off until I hear of a resolution. My store(s) still have stock but I don’t want to risk it.

Jellygate

I think if it would be a hardware issue you should see it in both orientations. Of course it is unfortunate and they should definitley fix it but I still love that iPad Mini
It's a vertical sync issue, meaning the display is out of sync with the graphics frame buffer. You can't see it in landscape because the content is moving perpendicular to the tear line, trust me it's still there. Could easily be a hardware issue.

Losing our sharp edge?. This kind of issues in 2021 from Apple just show a huge greed, long gone are the days of “quality first, profit will come automatically” of Steve. Tim is just a manager without vision beyond short term profits. And this is why USA is so afraid of Chinese companies, easier to ban, than step up our game.

As an LCD updates it does so across the display, e.g. it doesn't update the whole display at once. So when you scroll you see the update kind of out of sync, this creates the wobble/jelly effect. If you rotate into landscape your moving with the update so no wobble. The fix? alter LCD redraw / refresh rates. Probably not a lot they can do about it. The issue has existed for years. On better / higher res screens you will see a very slight slant to straight lines as you scroll. These new iPad minis seem to be as bad as the old 2013 models.
