I agree with the comments about the pricing of memory. Apparently it costs Apple $10 - 16Gb, $20 - 32GB and $41 - 64GB.

I guess Apple is selling the low memory units at very low profit and the high memory units at very high profit. This is their sales strategy . It's no different to a lot of companies who do the same thing. Profits come from the premium products. It's a tried and proven strategy.

Pad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular 8GB: US$ 349

I'm hoping that it will be like NExus 7, Acer Iconia a100, HTC Flyer, that has a built-in GPS chip that doesn't need 3G.

Im not a big fan of android at all, but it might come down to waiting for Black Friday to get a tablet that does everything I want (well except run IOS).

Apple iPad mini appears in Media Markt inventory in cellular and WiFi flavors, $250-650 price range

I guess I'll go for the 8gb

I just came across this:

iPad mini (Wi-Fi, 8GB, Black/White) €249 ~ $320

Oops... come on Apple more than $299 USD will impact sales.

Yes, I know it will be a small amount but still.

Price doesn't stop many of us, but for the new people that are buying their first Apple device and they are shopping at big box stores as well, there are other tempting solutions.

Just sayin...

this just isn't going to happen, sorry.

Oh it could, there is plenty of profit in there and it would get rid of the current Sku issues that Apple has with Walmart, Target and even their own stores, and the more expensive models would have even more profit and a higher profit margin much like now. Ram is really cheap for Apple, if they really do a $249 for 8GB and $349 for 16 GB, the press will roast them and rightly so. The press will go on and on about $5 increase in parts costing $100 from Apple, and that will not be a good thing. Instead they can put $15 more in cost and give the bottom line unit 32 GB, and everyone will talk about how it has more storage then its competitor and people aren't going to complain about lack of space the first week they get it. Apple only has another year of so to play this trick before their doomed to failure no memory card plan has to be given up. Memory cards of 128 GB are available everywhere, 256 GB were announced last month and its likely we'll see 1/2 Terrabyte (512 GB) cards next year. No matter how cool IOS 7 is VS Androids Silly Desert 5.0, if one set of hardware you can load hundreds of movies, 1000s of comics, books and docs and your entire music library and the other has only 64 GB of space, Apple is going to start losing market share, because having lots of stuff with me, is better then having a little bit of stuff with me.
