not that apple has been concerned playing a race to the bottom, but i remember prices on the original ipad were supposed to be approaching $999 and apple was like, "blam, $499!".

Either that will happen again, or this thing might have a retina screen. Otherwise, they are conceding low-end of the 7" market.

7.85"

I'm shocked at this price. Hopefully the features blow away the competition, because the price is so high at that screen size. I had no interest in this, and now I'm happy I don't. My iPad 2 is doing just fine. Hopefully those prices are wrong...

"I would expect an upward bias in Apple pricing this year of $50 on pads and $100-200 on computers."

I am getting conflicting information on the updated Nexus 7. The 8 GB is going to stick around at $199 with the 32 GB superseding the 16 GB model. Or the 16 GB is bumped down to $199 to be replaced by the 32 GB at the $249 price point.

Then there is the new Nexus phone and Nexus 10 tablet for October 29th.

Latest I read was the 16GB will replace the 8GB pricing and the 32GB will replace the 16GB pricing.
But a Tegra 3 tablet with Android Jelly Bean and 32GB of storage is a bargain at $249.

Personally I hope none of the iPad mini rumours turn out to be true. Apple used to be a company that simply WOW'd you with new inventions and this usual pattern of product codes & pictures being leaked months before release are slowly bringing their reputation down.

I for one will be expecting the unexpected from Apple, I'm sure they can still pull something out of their sleeves. I'm sure I could be wrong, too.
Your memory is not so great. Every Apple release has been met with bitching about how it's not as good as it could have been. Every single one. Original iPhone: No apps. No Cut and Paste. Not a "real" smartphone. Original iPad: No camera. "Just a big iPhone without the phone." Stupid name like a feminine hygiene product.

Which is the last Apple product that "simply WOW'd you"? I'll go find some examples of folks saying that Apple had lost its mojo.

Apple will blow away the competition! Nexus only has a 1.2 megapixial camera - no retina display. I don't get the people on here bad mouthing apple products. Apple always blows away the competition, thats why we love their products!

And we don't even know the final spec/price... I take any rumors with a grain of salt until Apple announces them officially!

You may not like his answer but there is truth to it.

The iPad mini at $329 is clearly competing with the iPod touch and not the cheaper android based tablets.

There was article comparing the screen sizes. Most people call the iPad mini a 7" tablet, but it's 7.85", which is closer to 8" and 40% bigger than the 7" screens. That's why everything is $X.99.

inventions!!! Really! What are u smoking? 90% of this technology was handed down from government research. Apple was just in the right place at the right time and people with the right talent to put it all together. Apple made it look too easy and that's we're the so called competition is having their problems.

What premium features will have an iPad mini?

Very good question. I'm not a product manager, they are the ones that decide these things, however I can tell you what I want, and the number one thing I require in a device (which is different from all other devices out there currently) is a high resolution screen. I read a lot of PDFs, and I'd love for a device this size to be able to display PDFs (which I normally print out). When I print, I print 2 per page and if I could instead view this same printout in a tablet that is roughly the same size as my Kindle (which displays PDFs horribly). Imagine a product like that, and now imagine which products would compete against it.

Others imagine a product that is incapable of competing against a cheaper product with superior specs - that would be madness. I imagine a world where Apple lives up to its reputation and produces a product that is different in ways that aren't price related to products already on the market.

Does that answer your question?

How can it have premium features when the rumour is a 1024x768 resolution screen? Thats not premium, thats vintage.

"How can rumours be fact?" is the better question you should be asking. I never, never said that 1024x768 is premium, in fact, I've said (consistently) that the resolution of the iPad 2 would most definitely *not* be premium, and would not warrant a premium price. There is a rumour that the resolution is iPad 2's resolution - if that is true and there isn't another reason to pay a premium price, then Apple has lost its mind regarding brand management, and that is a situation I don't believe for a moment has actually happened. Can't wait till Tuesday!

The guys that are posting $30= no buy or a nexus 7 u guys are just passive aggressive trolls. There I said it!

Someone probably already posted this but:

The this pricing makes the new iPod Touch seem like an even worse deal than it already does at $299. Who is buying those things at $299? I mean they are SUPER nice but I'm not buying my kid a $300 iPod.

For all those who say what's $30 - let me send you my address and you can all send me that 30 that you don't care about.

I'd love to buy a tablet and intend to do a full size one when I need to replace my laptop. However, these prices are way past what I want and probably can afford for a product that I'm not sure how / if I will use. I want basically and e-reader that I can do Internet and some of the very few apps that I run. It would be very hard to justify for my needs and our budget a $350 device + tax + at least some sort of protective cover.

I'd love to stay in the Apple world but I don't care what features it will have (Retina, etc.) I just can't spend and won't spend $350 plus for a device that I can satisfy my requirements for 200.

And once I go to the Android world will I just stay there for my next phone.

I think 350 and up is a bad mistake for Apple. I know they are smarter and richer than I am but for most people that much additional cost for features that most people won't know or care about is much too much. You have to compete at all ends of the market - not maybe match price but keep it in range.

What premium features will have an iPad mini?

My real guess? They will drop the iPad 2 entirely. They will update the iPad 3 to an A6 SOC with quad core graphics or something special, Lightning connector, possibly new IGZO screen and thinner design with LTE but I think that'll be next year.

The iPad Mini will start from $399, it will have a dual core A6 and tri core or quad core GPU. It will start from 16GB to 32 to 64. Both WiFi and 4G LTE versions offered. It will offer something special with the screen, this GF2 tech and Igzo screen?

All Apple will do is offer two tablets with similar power but at different sizes, 9.7" and 7.85".

They will position it between the pricing of the $250 tablets and the iPad 3 as the MS Surface has targeted the iPad 3 price too.

iPad 3 was rumored to start at $569

I don't trust price rumors, we had an identical looking table last Feb claiming at retina is too expensive and apple are raising iPad prices by $70

Besides, 30 bucks is nothing nowdays if you're into apple products. If it REALLY bothers you that much, than you probably shouldn't be buying apple products. Go out to eat less once this week or go on one less date with your significant other. That's all that 30 bucks is.

It's so annoying to see people crying about 30 bucks on here.

I would love to be able to go out to dinner for $30.

I'm fine with the price. But, I just hope they don't go cheap and skimp on the features, which Apple has been known to do on first generation products. If they do, like they did with the iPad 1, then the price is too much.

Don't buy it. From what we know of Apple's treatment of the iPad so far:

- it'll be replaced with a thinner, better model a few months after tens of millions of people buy them
- it'll be made obsolete by iOS 8

Name one product Apple "invented".

Tim's cracking down on the leaks I see.

After Steve passing away, these slow and steady leaks works for Apple. IMHO.

so they do not hype too much and fail. last quarter sales was not good (hear it from next week conference call)

But this quarter (holiday) quarter will be block buster; so in a way these leaks works for Tim Cook
