Who the heck is going to dish out $130 more when you can get a $199 Kindle Fire from Amazon? They both have movies, music, apps, books. Its a pretty tough sell if you ask me.

I would, easily. Apple's App store has so much more to offer than others do.

IF this is true

IF this is true,

all I can say is RETINA confirmed.

Not that we've got that said, 329$ is just too high.

Is it fair to assume that once the iPad mini ships that iPad 2 will be discontinued?
I've got to think so, yes.

If the $329 price is accurate, that must be a 16GB model, yes? Considering the iPad 2 16GB WiFi model sells for $399, I can't see how Apple could justify asking $329 for an 8GB 7.85" iPad. And even still, wouldn't $329 make this new iPad far and away the most expensive 7-inch(ish) tablet on the market?

Wouldn't the same logic apply for large iPads too? Yet they so fat have been selling OK, and better than Kindle fire as far as I can tell.

You are kidding, right? Ever used a Kindle? And an iPad? The kindle is a joke. The iPad is a usable very reactive tablet with every app under the sun available for it. And it works.

The Kindle is a device to consume Amazon content (on the iPad you can do that on the side with the Kindle app) and thats it. And even for that it is not the best solution. Also, how long do you think Amazon can spend money to pay for $199 Kindles? Its not like they have the deep pockets like Apple.

The kindle is also significantly smaller then the rumored iPad mini and caters to a completely different market then the iPad.

Apple also has to earn money with there devices, so selling at or below costs is not something anybody in Cupertino will ever propose. No matter how loud some forum members shout.

about 5 million people the first month. Pay attention

If there's actually anything to this ... It says A5X(tweaked) for the processor.
.... and what does that mean ????:D

Edit: 163PPI (bummer) with A5X????

Well knucklehead, perhaps the lower resolution with the A5X might mean that Apple is hoping to emphasize the gaming platform aspect of this device.;)

If the capacity is 16, then $329 seems OK. A Nexus 7 16 in $250.

But I would have liked Apple to hit the $299 price point. That's a magic number - lots of tech launch at that price because consumers see $300 as being a barrier price point.

For most people all they want is a device to consume content. I can already hear the conversations... Does it have the internet? Yep. Can I view my pictures? Yep. Can I listen to Pandora? Yep. Can I watch Netflix? Yep. Can I read books? Yep. Can I play angry birds? Yep. And its a 7" tablet you say? Yep. So tell me again why is the iPad mini so much more?

Most people aren't techies, they just want a way to get at content. Even without the HD a 7" Kindle Fire for $159 is hard to beat.

I bought my Mom a Galaxy Nexus phone today, running pure stock Jelly Bean. It's Google's flagship phone.

And after playing around with it for awhile, I may buy myself a Nexus 7 instead of an iPad mini if an 8GB Wi-Fi only model starts at that price.

the rumor is $249 get you 32GB Nexus 7 next month, Google definitely trying and pushing hard to get market share at the tablet version.

Google also concerned about Microsoft, right smartphone only two players (iOS and Andriod) and they are trying hard to keep it that way.

Nexus 10 in the next Google event also planned.

starting 10/29 the nexus 7 16g is $200 & 32g is $250

I bet this is Australian pricing, including GST.

The US price is $299

just like
current ipad US = 499, AUD = $539
ipad 2 US=$399, AUD = $429

and the clincher
ipod touch 5th gen US=$299, AUD = $329

BS people want FaceTime iMessage they want iPads not tablets. I ride the NYC subway every day it's comical to see how many iPhones and iPads are being used. People are a lot more educated on electronics than u realize, this Is due to mainstream media constantly pumping out specs. I don't know we're u live but it's no contest in the big apple :)

High pricing, unless . . .

. . . unless we're talking a Retina or Retina-lite display. I'd be hoping for something like two-thirds the Retina resolution and rendering icons and elements at the same size as on a regular iPad for the sake of usability, only with fewer items on each row to take in account the smaller size.

All those adjustments, which mean a lot of usability, also mean a new LCD and extra support for developers. That's the sort of quid-pro-quo that might justify this product coming in close to $100 above expectations.

Do I need the iPad Mini?
No, but I will buy one. I already have a 1, 2 and 3.

Each one has it's place. The 1, although it has 3G, I now use it for wifi only. It stays next to my recliner. It has good battery life and is always ready to surf.

The 2 is on a limited 4g account and stays on wifi unless there is a power failure. It stays on my table next to the bed.

The 3 with unlimited LTE is my go everywhere. It stays on the charger ready to go out the door.

Oh boy a new toy. Can't wait.
