People rarely buy Apple products because of value for money? How do you define value?

Most people want a great product at a reasonable price. The Android platform, as of late, has stepped its game up in the product department for a much better price. SG3 is just as good, if not better, as the iPhone. When it comes to Nexus 7, you will not beat the value. It's an amazing tablet with an even better price. When it comes to 10" tablets, I'll admit that Apple has everyone beat.

I'll define it through a straight comparison.

If rumours turn out to be true, a 32GB iPad Mini will cost $529.
A Nexus 7 with the same memory size will cost $249, which is less than the half.

A Nexus 7 is widely recognized to be a pretty good tablet, so if I'm buying Apple for its value, the iPad mini will have to be more than twice as good a tablet, than the Nexus is. (Which I highly doubt, but YMMV).

Of course, other reasons for buying the iPad may be the presence of specific apps for one's need unavailable on Android (few cases), being tied to Apple's ecosystem (but most good apps for Android are free, so that applies only to some degree), or just liking Apple more to justify an otherwise unfavorable purchase.
Ok so basically you're defining value based on specs. I'm not sure where you get the $529 from. The $329 rumor never stated that the starting configuration would be 8GB.

I hope the starting price point is $299. Even if they have to eat some margins that's better than losing a sale to Amazon or Google.

Oh tell me oh wise poster complaining about the 8gb, where in the post does it mention such a thing. Bunch of whiners is all this site is getting these days. "If it was 299 I'd get it no issue, but 329? No way!" Really? $30? It must be so hard for you where a $300 warrants no second guessing but 329 automatically is way too much.

When (most) people look at $299, they feel like "yea, under $300, cool".
$349 takes it to "Over $300, no way"! There is no analysis of that $30.
There is no analysis of the fact that Google makes $0 on each Nexus Tab.
It's going to be $299 Wi-Fi only at entry. People have to decide if the specs warrant the price themselves.

...and it won't fit in a stocking at Holiday time unless you unbox it. :apple:

One of the main reasons apple priced it at $329 instead of $299 is because they can't MAKE 30 million of these, they can only make 10 million. So it would be foolish to price lower

And since 10 million will sell out in two days, maybe they should raise the price a few hundred to slow down the demand.

Another apple fail ... I call it now apple stock price in Q1 2013 will be down $100/share.

They have loss touch with innovation, failed to recognizes the advances in the market around them, and have priced themselves out of the market.

It's sad really

I never talked about specifications. I stated that the Nexus is universally thought to be a good tablet, and that comes from both specifications and user experience.

Only Apple knows about the possible configurations, and sizes, of the iPad mini, but we know that there will be four memory choices, and it will either be 8/16/32/64 or 16/32/64/128. I'm more inclined to believe in the former, as I don't think that the iPad mini will be the first iOS device to be available with 128GB.

Was checking out a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 yesterday. Was going to buy it and said to myself, wait the ipad mini is coming out next week. I know they'll price it right, maybe i'll hold off.

Guess I'm going back to best buy today to pick up the tab.

Sometimes Apple just sucks.

It better be cheap cos thats a horrible tab. You better get the nexus. Or if you can afford a little more the note 10.1. But you may find the dual core 1ghz processor insufficient for android.

Are you being sarcastic? The speed at which they sell has nothing to do with that poster's point about pricing based on their production limit.

This says all

Says all what? I was in a shop, what did you expect me to stand there for an hour and learn it inside out.

Sounds rather like you were trying to insult me there. For what? Not liking an OS on a tablet or only using it for a small amount of time? A little sad don't you think. Also against the forum rules.

How do we know for sure there will be four choices? Everything at this point is rumor and speculation.

nexus 10 inch expected from google & samsung. higher res screen than ipad 3. Although rumors are it wont be budget priced at all.

I haven't heard this. Thanks for the heads up! I'm actually excited for the Surface. I won't be buying it on release date, but if there are nice reviews for it I can see myself getting it.

Listen, just because you might be able to afford an extra $30, doesn't mean everyone can as well. Some people have a budget for these type of purchases, and $300 might be their absolute max for all we know. If they say they'll buy it at $299 and not $330, then let it be...don't be a jerk about it.

It's like if I have an absolute max on a house purchase of $300,000....I'm not just going to be like, "oh, that house is only $30,000 more, what's $30,000 more when we're already spending $300,000." It just doesn't work that way.

Why did people like this comment? According to this comment, $30 = $30,000. If that's how you handle your finances, no wonder you can't afford a tablet. Size does matter, in this case.

is there anyone else whos disappointed at the lack of secrecy behind apple's future information/products since the death of steve?

Its got nothing to do with steve.its since they became so large and popular.

So you're not even going to wait until Tuesday to see what the actual prices are?

Well, so email the admins and tell them to close this site, because nothing can thought to be true until Apple says it, and for that there is apple.com.

We have proofs which make us think that there will be four choices when it comes to memory storage. If the iPad mini turns out to be better than expected, that's good, but I've been following Apple releases for years and they never exceeded my pre-keynote expectations.

Bet that will cheeze them off.

...and for $539AU u can get the ipad 3, with 2048x1536 Retina display:)

Small is good, we like small....

But i don't like the display .. :( To me, resoution is everything, and i'm not about to sacrifice a smaller size for it.

Yeh since following this site there has never been much from Apple that exceeds what I expected. Maybe the a6 but that's about it. With the money that they have they could be far more aggressive and in turn absolutely own all the markets that they are in

Nexus 7 peeps - don't forget SHIPPING!

People talking about the $199 and $249 price points on the Nexus 7 are forgetting that GOOG adds $14 shipping to Nexus 7 orders ... AAPL ships all their iDevices for free.

True Nexus 7 pricing is $213 (8 gb) and $263 (16 gb) plus tax delivered.

A 16 GB Wifi iPad Mini @ $329 is only a $66 difference for the AAPL premium. Not a bad premium for what is likely to be a far superior device. And if they do manage to include retina, it's a no-brainer killer device for the price difference.

And all you folks talking about the Nexus 7 like it's a god clearly don't have one. ;-) As a developer, I have the Galaxy Tab 7, Kindle Fire, Nexus 7 and iPad. There's simply no comparison if you actually try the devices side by side. People used to their iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches who try a Nexus 7 will be sorely disappointed. IMHO, of course.

Sure hope $329 isn't an accurate starting price. Sold my iPad 3 to wait for the iPad Mini expecting a $249 starting price. If $329 is correct, may just have to pick up a Nexus 7 instead. :(

Unless you buy from a store, so you cant just add on figures to the Nexus 7 price

As to your other points, I feel the total oposite after moving to the Nexus 7, IMHO, of course

Hmmm... Where are you shopping?

GOOG only makes an 8 GB and 16 GB Nexus 7. There's no 32 GB Nexus 7.

... And don't forget to add $14 shipping from GOOG.

Apple could price these things even higher and people would still be lining up for one so why lower the price? Keeping the product expensive does a couple things. First it makes it a must have "Apple" product and second allows them to make extremely good profit on every one they sell.

I have often wondered why Apple doesn't raise it's prices when a new model comes out. It would not change sales levels at all and would help the company add to it's bottom line.

As long as it has the Apple logo they can't lose. People will go nuts over it.
