Yeah, rather have a retina display. And having 1gb of ram and a6 does not justify its 329 price tag.

You wont get a retina display from ipad 2. The mini ipad or whatever they call the thing will prob be better in every aspect than the ipad 2 except be a bit smaller but you would rather spend more money on a year and half old tablet?

$329 in my opinion is too much for a 7" tablet, especially when there are other great tablets that start at $199-249..

Where do people get the 8GB number? A poster wondered if it would be, but the story doesn't mention that.

Actually 8GB iPad mini would make sense and for 250€/$ will be a steal :) Apple needs something to compete in price with Nexus 7.

I only brought it up because of rumors from sites that it would start at $249 for a 8GB version, and I've seen it being mentioned around here, but with the price starting at $329 I'm thinking that will be for a 16GB.

299 and I would've bought two; one for me, one for my parents. 329 and I'll pass. Makes no sense? I don't care.

Why is everybody hung up on 8GB? There is no reason to think that the three tiers would be 8/16/32... If theres 64GB in an iPod Touch, there will be in an iPad Mini.

And I wouldnt plan on being able to buy the iPad 2 at $399 after the Mini comes into the picture. The lower priced iPad 2 was a stopgap until the Mini was ready, so if you think its a better deal, get moving.

I hope this rumor isn't true... $299 sounds better and will therefore sell better; whats $30 to Apple?. Most rumors claim it won't have retina, which doesn't make sense either.

Yeah, sorry, meant *bigger* display.

Sorry, didn't see your edit before I posted, yeah, bigger *might* be better (that's what she said), but there's something kind of intriguing about this smaller model - I'll have to reserve judgement till I check one out in person, but I'm 98% sure I'm going to get one for my little girl.

If Apple isn`t run by a bunch of idoits, then the iPad Mini will not have such a low resolution screen. How in the world are you expected to beat the competition and charge 100 more when you throw a screen on it, with the DPI from 2008? Not going to happen.

Base model will have 16gb. Prices seem about right to me. Apple is not going to stand toe to toe on price with the Nexus and Kindle. They want to maintain their image as a premium brand and it seems to have worked for them so far. If that continues to be the case into the future who knows. The mobile landscape does seem to be shifting a bit.

Am I the only one who is not bothered by the price? If its 16Gb with retina display then it will be exactly as I expected it in the $300 price range. Also, why anyone would even believe that the mini will only be 8 GB when the iPod nano starts at 16GB is just puzzling. I believe all these other tablets being compared at $199 to $249 will just look like junk next to a retina iPad mini. I bet iOS 6 will just run smoother, have impressive battery life, and be thinner and lighter than other Android tablet in its price class.

Sounds worth it to me.

So a little more than an ipod touch.

That would make the UK price for the base model £279.

Not great... but depends on what the spec it really turns out to be.

The $399 iPad 2 doesn't have a retina display. :) In fact, if the displays are the same res (i.e., iPad 2 vs. iPad <smaller>), this new product will have superior PPI (though obviously on a smaller physical display).

It probably will, but having superior PPI doesn't mean anything to some folks. There's people that prefer having a larger display. My iPad 3 has a better resolution than my 65'' HDTV, but I rather watch movies on my tv.

Ever had a Nexus 7? Junk? Don`t make me laugh. The Ipad Mini will have to really impress to win market share.

P105 is WiFi and P107 is Cell? What's going on there?

$329 is pretty good, depending on what is included in the iPad Mini. However, it makes the iPod Touch into a complete JOKE. I have an iPT from a few years ago and would never buy another again with the mini out there.

The iPT is best for video, web, apps. However, it is painfully small. The mini shuts down any need for an iPT; just get a shuffle and put music there.

I might get one for my parents, they need something portable and lightweight. They don't care about PPI or ram. They just want something that works.

Not that Apple has been concerned playing a race to the bottom, but I remember prices on the original iPad were supposed to be approaching $999 and Apple was like, "BLAM, $499!".

Either that will happen again, or this thing might have a retina screen. Otherwise, they are conceding low-end of the 7" market.

The $1000 price was when people thought it was going to run OS X.

I want one, but I wouldn't hesitate to snap one up at $299. Now I'm going to have to think about it.

Yep, weird how that works. My gf doesn't want an iPad, too big she says. But the ipad Mini has caught her eye. She also said she hoped it would be $249, but $299 would be ok. Any more and it's just too much to spend over $300 on something she doesn't "need". If she felt the need she would have an iPad 2.

I just told her it's probably going to be $329 and she said damn oh well Nevermind. I asked, are you going to get it? "Nope".
Had it been $299 she would buy it lol.
To me $30 isn't a big deal, but I'm an apple fanatic and gadget nerd, so it's different. I guess the price starting with a 3 will scare people off.
