Am I the only one who is not bothered by the price? If its 16Gb with retina display then it will be exactly as I expected it in the $300 price range. Also, why anyone would even believe that the mini will only be 8 GB when the iPod nano starts at 16GB is just puzzling. I believe all these other tablets being compared at $199 to $249 will just look like junk next to a retina iPad mini. I bet iOS 6 will just run smoother, have impressive battery life, and be thinner and lighter than other Android tablet in its price class.

Sounds worth it to me.

Would you still feel the same without a retina display?

I don't get people's reaction here.

1) Why would you expect this to be the same price as tablets Amazon/Google make no profit on? Apple already dominates the tablet market with a highly profitable tablet. No way they would cannibalize its sales with a smaller tablet that generate no profit. Why would you expect Apple to lose money on purpose? It's like people can only see this from a consumer's point of view and can't analyze Apple's strategy from a business point of view, resulting in totally non-realistic expectations.

2) Why does everybody here talk of a 8GB starting capacity? This speculation has only started since the fake price list leak starting at $249, which this rumor contradicts. Either you believe one rumor, either you believe the other. People here just take the worse from each rumor. 9to5Mac is way more reliable than the other site, this is likely the real deal, and there probably won't be a 8GB iPad mini.

3) Stop talking about Retina. No way you will see a 2048x1536 7.85" tablet for only $329. Like I said, Apple is here to make money, not to lose some.

Jesus, those prices are WAY TOO HIGH for an iPad Mini. Terrible pricing strategy. I will NOT be purchasing an iPad Mini. Terrible.

$329 is nowhere even REMOTELY close to $199. $329 for a non-retina 7" tablet is an absolute farce. The iPad 2 blows this thing out of the water in terms of value.

And the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD destroy it 8 ways from Sunday as well. Anyone who buys this thing at that price is a sucker.

The base price of the iPad 3 and potentially the Mini iPad is fine. What bothers me is the jacked up prices on additional storage and implementation of 4G.

Well if this pricing is true, then that's gonna be kinda pricey for parents to pick one of these up for the kids for the holidays! :(
Bad move IMHO.

I do see this as a good thing tho. I see this as an alternative to my ipad 3.if its higher specced of course. I dont want to buy a watered down ipad. Just sm a ller and more portable.

Ever had a Nexus 7? Junk? Don`t make me laugh. The Ipad Mini will have to really impress to win market share.

If Apple can make a much smaller phone than Samsung and still match it toe to toe in performance, and then some with better battery life, then I just can't wait to see what Apple will do with a form factor that is comparable to the competition. A much smoother OS experience, retina display, and smaller and lighter is going to be worth $100 more for me.

We'll soon find out.

299 and I would've bought two; one for me, one for my parents. 329 and I'll pass. Makes no sense? I don't care.

My gf is the exact same way. $299 and she asked me to preorder for her on day 1. $329 and she just told me "forget it, I don't want it anymore."

If it were me, I'm on this site too much, so I hype myself into getting it regardless. She's not like me though, and I'm sure a lot of people, such as yourself, will be the same way. They'll balk when the starting price starts with a 3.

It doesn't have to make sense. There's definitely psychological impacts in pricing. Stuff is still priced $99 and not $100.

but if it attracts new customers and they each spend $50 in the app store......

And if we keep making up numbers, why not sell it for $2 and assume $100k in sales at the App store, not to mention spin-off sales of iPods, Macs, the whole works . . .

So we've got a count of 1 (for a made-up story), guess that settles it.

How so?

The Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD have weak ecosystem and build quality compared to an iPad. I also always hear about how laggy they are.

The screen on the iPad mini will also be 40% bigger than a 16:9 7" tablet, placing it in-between them and a full-size iPad.

You also have to compare pricing of equivalent capacity. A 16GB Nexus 7 is $250, only $79 less.

And I wouldnt plan on being able to buy the iPad 2 at $399 after the Mini comes into the picture. The lower priced iPad 2 was a stopgap until the Mini was ready, so if you think its a better deal, get moving.

ipad2 is impossible to get at bestbuy.ca

Again, what a complete joke of a statement. Amazon books alone is the reason why Kindle itself boomed. Don`t say stupid things.

No I would not. I am just assuming it is. If not, then I would be inclined to agree that is overpriced.

But I just don't see a retina iPad mini not happening. It would stand to be the only iOS device to not live up to the standard.

Apple does NOT understand how to price a product that nobody needs.

Apple, you just lost my sale for the iPad Mini! I will NOT be purchasing this product!

Good luck selling them to some sucker out there who will buy one, but I can guarantee you that I will NOT. i'm just fine with my iPad 3, thankyouverymuch.

Ironically enough, Apple, if you would have priced this product appropriately (like $199 or $249), I would have snapped one up for guests to use in the living room.

But at these prices, you have completely lost both my sale AND my interest. Yet you could have had BOTH my sale AND my interest if you would have priced these appropriately, at $199 or a MAXIMUM price of $249.

Good luck, though... I'm sure some sucker out there will plunk down $329 for this unnecessary object.

What did I say that was stupid? That the Kindle had a weak ecosystem? It does. The amount of tablet-optimized apps is very weak compared to the iPad. Given the iPad's tablet marketshare, tablet-optimized websites are also designed with the iPad's resolution in mind.

Sure, the Kindle Fire can have Amazon books, but so can the iPad.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kindle/id302584613

And that was just one of my arguments. The screen is still 40% smaller on the Kindle, and build quality isn't exactly what you would expect from an Apple product. Plus it lags and doesn't integrate as well with other Apple products and services as an iPad would. Oh and the iPad would likely have a back camera as well.

Well one of us actually being feasible. Sorry to express my opinion on this FORUM.

I said for ages that it will be for Ireland

Wifi

€349 - 16
€449 - 32
€549 - 64

Wifi & Cellular

€449 - 16
€549 - 32
€649 - 64

Going on those leaked US prices, it looks like I'll be pretty spot-on.

I also don't expect to see retina, but standard 1024x768 and likely the same processor in the iPad 2, albeit with 1GB of ram instead on 512mb.

I just don't see them putting a retina display in the iPad mini. They would for sure have to put the A6 in there, or at least the A5X. That would make the iPad 2 which they sell for $399 obsolete. Sure it has a bigger screen, but everything else would be outdated compared to the mini.

I do agree that if it comes with a retina display, $329 is justified...but no retina display, and it's overpriced.
