Stop being a such a corporate shill

I can't post pictures of 5 iPads because I only hade one iPad at a time.

So it's my fault that Apple ships units with dead pixels, dust particles under the screen and yellow screen issues? Yeah, right!

I can post pictures tomorrow on my dead pixel and the dust particles under the screen, when I have access to a better camera.

You guys are tools.

So it's this guys fault that his iPad's have defects because he bought them from the US to be shipped overseas, before they were released in his country?

Stop being such a corporate tool-bag with that drivel. Assuming his iPad's are actually defective, that's totally and utterly Apple's fault - especially since they were originally purchased from an Apple Store.

That being said, assuming you actually did get five defective iPads, I don't think this is good evidence for Apple's iPad QC. Statistically, their laptops don't fail at a higher (or lower rate) than the industry average, and I imagine the same holds true for their other electronics as well (that is to say, their QC is pretty good generally speaking). Perhaps there's some other explanation for why your iPads are defective?

I believe the story. My first iPad had dead pixels and dust under the screen. I exchanged it for another. It has 1 stuck pixel, but otherwise is fine. However, neither I can say were perfect. I'm not hung up one pixel, but I feel that I would have the right to exchange it if I wanted to.

If someone wants their new purchase to be flawless, then I can believe these stories.

Took the words right out of my mouth, kudos.

I've seen three iPads since release.

My pre-order: Nice white screen, very little backlight bleed.
Second: Ugly, dingy yellow screen. Big aluminum flake under glass (about 4 pixels wide)
Third: Yellow-to-blue screen (left to right). Passable display but on white screens (i.e., 99% of web pages) it was annoying.

I've bought a total of six so far for my company and friends in Europe and Japan- each is perfect, go figure. Must be luck. Or not.

Pretty much. I've seen three in my immediate family and they've all been identical in terms of screen quality. No defects or stuck pixels.

Thing is, the plural of anecdote isn't data. As I mentioned before, if there were a widespread quality-control issue, we'd know. Since we don't, I'm forced to conclude that the OP has possibly the worst luck in the world or, more probably, a mailman who hates him and plays soccer with his parcels.

I'm not going to buy another iPad until Apple decides to release it in my country so I can buy it in a locale store and test it before purchase.

Test it before purchase? Where does this happen? Most certainly not in US Apple stores, Best Buy, The Mac Store or any other retailer. You buy a box, not that there iPad on the shelf. You do not open the box until after you finish the purchase. You could test and examine the product on the spot and look for one you find satisfactory, but that is a sure way to get store policy changed, probably not for the better.

Hello MacRumors,

I love the iPad except for three things: dead pixels, yellow screen issues and dust particles under the screen.

I'm on my fifth (5th) iPad... :(

1st iPad: Got it about 14 days after the official release date in USA via Borderlinx. 4 dead pixels in the middle of the screen. Sold it and ordered a new one from USA via Borderlinx.

2nd iPad: 3 dead pixel and several dust particles under the screen. Sold it and ordered a new one one from USA via Borderlinx.

3rd iPad: 5 dead pixels, yellow screen issue and several dust particles under the screen. Sold it and ordered a new one one from USA via Borderlinx.

4th iPad: 1 Dead pixel and dust particles under the screen. Sold it and order a new one but this time from Germany (because they just released it there).

5th iPad: My current iPad. 1 Dead pixel and several dust particles. I'm going to sell this one as well.

I'm not going to buy another iPad until Apple decides to release it in my country so I can buy it in a locale store and test it before purchase.

Edit: My 5th iPad.

Edit 2: Dust particle under the screen, dead pixel (or more like partial dead pixel) and some more dust particles under the screen.

Sorry to hear that. I too had quality control issues.

At launch I had dust particles under the glass.

On my second iPad the back lighting went dead after a day of use.

On my 3rd, so far so good. Uniform back lighting, dust free, dead pixel free.

Yes, in my country you can test the product before purchase. I bought my latest MacBook Pro at my locale Apple approved reseller. They opened the package and powered it on so I could check the screen before my purchase.

I'm with the OP on this, poor QC. I am on my third and that one also has something under the screen so will be going back also. First ipad I bought was flawless until after about a month then I noticed a big spec of something under the glass. Apple collected, sent it to Holland (from UK) and replaced it with a brown boxed model which also had a big spec under the screen. That went back in the same fashion and another one was returned to me, also with something under the screen but not quite as bad as the two I sent back previously. I'll be going to the Apple store with this one as It's getting slightly ridiculous. I expect a lot better for £699 of my hard earned cash. I also went through 3 iphone 3g models with the same problem when they first came out.

In the UK you can do this too, in apple stores at least, with both my iPhone and iPad I got them to turn them on and connect them to the Internet so I could go to one of those sites (with different coloured backgrounds) where you can check for dead pixels.
I'd never buy anything with a screen without checking it for dead pixels, most places are happy for you to check. Even GAME let me turn on a PSP before I bought it to make sure it had no dead pixels.

I call BS on this. Post your pictures with all of your five iPads with these defects. Also, it is your fault that you started to run to another countries and purchased an iPad before it was released it on your country.

It's not BS. You don't even want to KNOW how many iPads I went through when my first one just DIED.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/964361/

So don't call BS. There's definitely some QC issues with the iPad, but let's not forget that most people are not as OCD as we are.

I don't understand though.. Why would you sell the iPad and make a loss rather than just sending it in via warranty...

1. Minimum of 30 days from the day I send it back until I receive a new one. I don't want to wait that long.
2. $100 for shipping. I don't want to pay that much just to send it back to the states.

I rather sell at a loss (not a big one), and buy a new one.

Why do these quality control issues always seem to happen to the same people, over and over again.

Seems very odd to me

I truly don't think that's the case. What you're saying is the OCD people are STILL OCD. The people who aren't so picky will remain so.

+1. This is clearly a false story made up by someone who dislikes Apple.

Yes, and the defects are Photoshopped...

Come on! These sorts of things happen, I had terrible issues with some unibodies. I would certainly think about getting an iPad somewhere else. The source that the OP purchased might get some returned products on wholesale. But it's just an idea.

Why buy from the US stores when you could have imported from the UK (EU)? Heck, with all the money you have wasted you could've funded a nice weekend break in London and bought one while you were there. How very bizarre.

Funny

I have yet to look for any dead pixels. I never even thought of looking for these flaws people talk about. I turn the iPad on and just enjoy it.

CCCP:
Central Committee of Communist Party. No wonder your having trouble with quality control in your area. ;)

In that case buddy consider yourself lucky. Trust me, if you have dead pixels, you don't have look for them..they look at you and its pretty annoying.

I am really really OCD and I'm on my third iPhone. But touchwood my iPad is flawless.

The first iPad thad I bought from an Apple premium reseller had a dead pixel which bothered me greatly. I returned that one for a new unit that is impeccable, however for some odd reason I tell myself that the iPad I returned had a crisper screen, but I am probably just imagining that.

I know no1curr, but my biggest issue with Apple and their premium resellers as of late is their bad attitude re returns. Europe is not the US--consumers here have rights and it annoys me to no end when companies try to deny me said rights by referring to corporate policy (which is my experience with Apple and their resellers).
