iPad Pro 10.5 Cases Thread

Is the material itself tacky like Apple's silicone case for the 9.7 or is it harder, more slippery like plastic cases?

Only thing I don't like about the KHOMO smart case is it's back/edge surfaces are more slick than tacky, even though the matte finish implies otherwise.

Brilliant idea.
The material itself is slightly tacky on the back--it's 100% TPU, no hard plastic. I have not found it to get overly grimy with fingerprints so far, and there is a gridded pattern on the inside of the case, so you won't get those weird looking spots where the case sticks to the iPad.

ALSO--of all the cases I've tried so far, this is the only one that has solid edges. It takes a real effort to get them to slip off of the side of the iPad, even in the flimsier areas like by the charge port or speaker grill cutouts. This solves two issues for me: 1) I don't have to be careful how I hold the iPad because I know the case will stay on, and 2) I don't have to worry about lint getting trapped under the edges and looking gross or potentially scratching the iPad as debris rubs around under the case.

Both of those items check off the two MAJOR gripes I had about the Poetic case. I have decided I will not miss the Pencil holder on the side because it was definitely causing my Pencil battery to drain faster--any time I used or even just moved the iPad, it would wake up the Pencil. I am going to go back to my third party leather Pencil case for now.

Do you find that you have the same issue mentioned earlier in this thread, about one side having no lip to hold the iPad?

(from user wmadan)
"the corners fit poorly around the device and do not leave a lip. It impairs the fit and finish of the cover."

You don't, its part of the forum software to avoid making multiple posts in a row in a short span of time.

Btw, what those links you provided as they go to google and states that I need to ask permission. If they're images the forum software permits you to upload those images
Got it. Thank you.

I don't have that issue---I will say that the corners fit differently on one side than the other. So on the side with the ASK cutout, they still come over the metal edge, but don't get as far on to the screen as they do on the other side. I'm ok with it, as it's still a snug and solid fit and they don't pop off easily, even when I try to do it manually.

Dave, I'd like to get the same Torro case. I don't see it on Amazon yet. Did you have to order it from the UK??
I live in the UK so ordered it from the UK store. I'm not sure if this case is currently only available in the UK at the moment as they're doing a limited supply of 10.5" cases initially to gauge the market.

For lurkers here....Torro advised me today that they plan on getting a supply to Amazon USA in a "few" weeks. I think they are missing the boat as Kavaj has no plans to make their most excellent Berlin model case for the 10.5 iPad.

So now I'm torn--I have the Luvvitt case, which I love, but also just got the Khomo case in the mail and love it as well. The problem with the Khomo case is that it came with damage on the bottom. There is a scratch on the plastic part that extends up into the fabric portion as well.

So now I'm torn between two different back covers that I love. The Khomo case fits a little better, but it looks like I'm going to have to exchange it for a non-damaged one. The Luvvitt is a little sleeker and prettier, but now that someone pointed out the issues with the corners, I don't know if I like it as much anymore.

CHOICES CHOICES CHOICES

EDIT: The Khomo case is still going to be the one I send back. I can tell that fabric material on the back is not going to stand the test of time, and I don't like that it came in damaged. Sticking with the Luvvitt.

That people may or may not use? I don't. I have the pencil though and that's good enough for my needs, Apple still should have included it anyway....and if that's so, why is there no Smart case for the 2017 iPad?

Too bad Apple, I love my 9.7 Silicone Case, you've actually given me an incentive to stick with it!

I use the ASK, so the connector is important for me, but I agree with you on your sentiment about keeping the 9.7. If Apple would have produced a silicone back case for the 10.5, I'd purchase a new 10.5, the new ASK, cover AND back case in a heartbeat. BUT NOOO, they decided not to make a back case, so all bets are off on a new iPad for me as I'll be sticking with my 9.7 Pro for now.

NB: I need a new iMac more anyway...

It would be nice if they would put some of those on Amazon Canada, too, as our current selection in premium cases is next to zero.

I've been considering the Sena Future Folio, as an alternative to Apple's Smart Case (that doesn't exist), but I cannot find any videos of it (they only have videos of the older iPad Mini version). Found some old Amazon USA reviews, which were positive. I own an old iPod Touch (2G) case, from Sena, but I am not sure if their quality is still the same.

I just placed an order from the UK, which was promptly filled (for the same reasons, poor availability - not to mention high prices - in the US) and it was promptly filled and sent. I expect it soon. It wasn't from Torro, but I expect Torro would have no issues with an order originating from the US:

Good luck!

I'm really interested to see how that one works on a 10.5.

Unusual case. I might have even ordered one if they didn't have the pencil loops.

The slot to keep your credit card cinches it. ;)

Have these geniuses heard of :apple: Pay? The slot needs to be wayyy bigger!

I'm really glad we had this exchange yesterday, because it prompted me to order the Luvitt with my Amazon Prime account. I just got it this afternoon and popped it onto my iPad Pro, and it is FANTASTIC. The TPU is crystal clear, the fit is perfect, the cutouts line up perfectly, and there is a grid pattern on the inside that keeps spots from sticking to the back of the iPad. I also like that where the cutout is for the ASK, the back comes just about right up flush to where the magnet is. It's just a very premium looking and feeling case.

Drawbacks I guess could be that it doesn't have the Pencil holder like my Poetic case does, but I don't think I was ever in love with that feature once I had it in person. It was nice to have it there, but did make the iPad wider, and make getting the keyboard cover on and off that much more awkward. It also tended to be kind of loose on the edges and would pop off the corner when I put the Pencil back in the holder. The only other possible negative thing I can think of is that my Luvitt cases have yellowed in the past, so hopefully that doesn't happen with this one.

I think it's safe to say that at this point when my Khomo case comes in, it will be returned. I think this one I got today is a winner.
[doublepost=1500600746][/doublepost]I got the luvitt and think it's a really good choice... I like the feel, I like the transparency, and it works with the Smart Keyboard .My one issue is that I want a screen protector, and I am having difficulty...I got an omotion glass protector (great product) that I perfectly centered before using the Luvitt ...Every time I hold the iPad and put a little pressure on the right hand side of the iPad it caused a bubble to form ... I can " iron out" the bubble, but next time I exert any pressure it lifts the screen at the margin... I reinstalled the screen protector and ever so slightly shifted it to the left side of the screen and the issue was minimized... but the protector is off slightly off center ...For this back cover what is really needed is a screen protector that is just ever so slightly less wide and it would work perfectLy but the manufacturers don't state the actual width of their protectors so it's a gamble... Anyway I screwed up one screen protector uninstalling and installing trying to get it just right ....Wish either it worked well with screen protectors, Or I knew of a tempered glass protector just a fraction less wide ...

Apart from my usual concerns about the quality of any high-priced product, I am curious about how well the magnetic stand will work. One of the Amazon reviews for the 9.7" version stated it fell over with a push. However, other reviews stated it worked quite well. One review for the old Mini version mentioned the leather to microsuede leaving a line on the glass that had to be wiped off (not sure if this is a major issue, if it doesn't permanently mark the glass). I don't mind the pencil loop, because I have an Apple Pencil and like being able to have a place to hold it when I am not using it. Some cases put the Apple Pencil holder in some pretty dumb locations (i.e. Targus VersaVu Classic Case, which ironically, is the parent company as Sena). Other than the different stand mechanism, it is the closest thing, to the Apple Leather Smart Case for the iPad Air 2, that I can find.

Hi everyone, made the mistake of purchasing the Apple Leather Smart Cover for my brand new iPad Pro 10.5. What a total waste of money imho. The Smart Cover is not fit for purpose. Firstly, there is no back cover and all it basically is a screen cover for the front of the iPad. However more worrying is what it did to my new iPad Pro 10.5 and left a line of indentation marks from the cover. Having spoken to Apple UK, I was advised that this had to be a manufacturing defect with the cover and would be investigated. iPad and Smart Cover sent back to Apple UK for a full refund. My advice would be don't buy it, or the slightly cheaper version. Also it is grossly over priced for what it is. Don't know what Apple were thinking tbh.

75% of your disappointment could have been avoided if you had just read the product description. Were you really shocked when you got the Smart Cover and realized it didn't cover the back? Smart Covers have never covered the back since they were first released in 2011.

Anyone able to post pics of the tech21 case

I'll answer my own question as I went a bought the case.

The fit is excellent, the buttons may be a bit stiff, but nothing that bothers me. Smart cover work well with the case. The material feel is also spot on. Only negative is the damn price, but ye... Case.jpg case2.jpg

If someone wants pictures from other angles, let me know.

It also includes a pencil holder, but as I dont have a pen I removed it.

Hi spiderman0616, nice to meet you. I'm very new to Apple products and I just assumed that a Smart Cover would also cover the back of the iPad. Did Apple at one point have an official case for earlier iPad models?

Yes. Apple used to sell the Smart Case, ending with the iPad Air 2, which covered both the back and the front of the iPad. For the iPad Pro models (1st generation 12.9" and 9.7"), Apple made a Silicone Case that covered the back only. This Silicone Case could be used with the Apple Smart Cover (leather or silicone). The Smart Case was Apple's best case, IMO. They stopped making it because they have nobody watching these forums.

The Smart Case for the iPad Air 2 is the best case I've ever had. I gifted that device to my grandparents with that case and they absolutely love it too. I still haven't found something for my needs that works with the Smart Keyboard and isn't a cheap piece of junk and/or unprotected. I visit this thread frequently to see what new stuff has come out. I wouldn't care so much except that I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old so the chances of my iPad going flying are exponentially higher than the average person.

I also have a 1 and 3 year old, and am afraid of damage. Because of the lack of perfect fitting options, I am starting to consider the Smart Cover + Tech21 case. The only other protective options, here, are cheaper Amazon cases or the UAG case, which has issues with it. Also considered the Otterbox case, but the built-in screen protector and massive size are dealbreakers. I've waited over a month to buy the iPad Pro 10.5" because I didn't have any case, yet. Might be time to swallow the $150/180 CAD pill, and just do it. Those pictures that Seppolainen posted above, have me very interested. The fit looks incredible.

Just wanted to post a quick photo for the few that might care about the UAG metropolis in a typing position.
