iPad Pro 10.5 Cases Thread

I just received I’ve my Oxford case from Pad & Quill today too.
- I don’t have the pencil yet, but the holder is well attached and should hold it well.

Everything is very stiff at the moment but I expect that will loosen up with use. Overall I’m pleased with the fit and quality, and that real leather smell is divine!

My thoughts exactly! Luckily for everyone here, I have an Apple Pencil so I've attached two photos with the Pencil.

Thoughts:
- Minimal packaging but who cares - you know what you're getting. Pricey but screams luxury. Got it with 10% off (I just had to ask). Non-US citizens will have to pony up on FedEx express shipping, so it gets really expensive.
- Genuine leather that's well stitched should last way longer than your average iPad Pro span. I hope the 3M holds up as well. Love having a 'naked' iPad in a case.
- The tight pocket can be useful for one-handed iPad usage. Slide your non-dominant hand in, lift iPad case and voila!
- The Pencil holds in the loop so tightly you really need to pull it out. That's a good thing. It may loosen over time, but you won't have to worry about it falling out. It's even holding the lid in place!
- There is friction present on the leather so the iPad doesn't slide around as I poke its keyboard or use the Pencil.

If you want a cheaper yet still premium case, look at the Torrocases from UK, but for ultra premium with features, I'd say P&Q are good albeit expensive choices.

I've got my Moshi Versacover for my 10.5 in black. Very Pleased with this thin case. (I think nobody wrote about this case for 10.5 till now).

a follow up on the Tech21.

Ive previously had a IPP9.7 with smartcover and silicone case. Tech21 + smart cover, is a better combo.

The material (mix of soft and hard) of the tech21 case is perfect, its not slippery but not too grippy either.

Sure it costs a bit, but it is a quailty product. If you got the cash dont hesitate :)

I think I might have to run over to the Apple Store tonight and check one out. I'm getting really tired of these cheap ones not being fitted correctly.

Hey guys and gals--

I bit the bullet and went and picked up the Tech21 case tonight. The people who were recommending it--you weren't lying. This thing is freaking nice. The material definitely feels premium--like something that will last a long time. And it fits the iPad perfectly. No janky corners or weird seams.

I will say--I don't exactly get what they're trying to do with this Pencil holder. It's not great. But I'm glad it's there as an option. I'm going to leave it off for the time being--I'm sure it will come in handy at some point.

Just received my case from Story Leather, the quality of the leather is amazing and fits perfectly. Only minor negative is the top and bottom are exposed, the price and it took about a month to manufacture/deliver. Overall a 9/10

I've been happy with my Story Leather iPhone cases. Have the same thing you got, but in white leather, in production with them. I'm sure the "production time" is really just the time it takes to ship it from China to here.

Here's my more long form impressions of the Tech21 case after using it last night and this morning:

1. This may sound a little dumb, but most cases I buy feel like just a thing I slap on my iPad and forget about it. This case is almost like a whole other product in itself, because of the premium look and feel, the nice packaging, and the attention to detail.

2. I thought the Pencil holder was kind of dumb at first, but it's really quite nice, and that's for two reasons. 1) It's easily detachable, so I have the choice of whether or not to use it, and 2) the Apple Pencil actually fits perfectly into it, and I would have no fear of it falling out. Most of the time I won't use the Pencil holder, as I've tried a couple of cases now with that built in, and I found that I often wished it wasn't there. Sometimes it's just annoying and beside that, having the Pencil always attached to the iPad means the Pencil is always "waking up" and draining battery. So this is the best of both worlds.

3. The packaging mentions that the finish on the case resists smudges. I have found that to be true. I have not yet managed to leave a fingerprint on it, and I'm not sure how they pulled this off. Most matte finish plastic cases are fingerprint magnets, especially the clear/opaque ones. It also says it is scratch resistant. Jury's out on that for now.

4. The fit is absolutely perfect, and my aversion to hard shell cases does not apply here. Most of the time I steer clear of shells because they tend to trap debris underneath and scratch the metal up if they are even ever so slightly loose on the device. This case has a nice smooth/soft interior and is not going to wiggle around on the iPad, so this is not a concern. In fact, it fits so well that I don't think debris will even be able to get in anyway. There is not even the slightest bit of give on the back, and that's where cases like this usually have wiggle room even if the corners fit perfectly--this is usually due to the smart cover cutout. Not a problem on this case.

5. The iPad ALMOST looks like it has no case at all. The finish is very clear and blends in very nicely with the finish of the iPad. In fact, holding it almost feels like you're using the iPad without a case. The only thing that gives it away is that it has ridges on the sides and corners and they stick out a bit from the case.

If I had to list a complaint, it would probably be that the case is hard to remove. I removed it once last night just to see what it would be like. It's not easy. And I will probably not attempt it again unless I really need to clean some gunk out. I guess another complaint could be the price, but there are plenty of options out there that are between $10 and $20 that are also perfectly fine cases. This case was $70. Is the plastic they made it out of as fancy and high tech as it says on the box? I guess that's possible. But I think in the end, it fits, feels, and looks like a $70 case. All that remains to be seen now is if it's durable enough to warrant the price tag. I'm glad to pay Tech21 for cases like this in the future if this one proves to be able to go the distance with me.

What do you mean when you say the pencil is waking up ?

Normally if you keep the Apple Pencil somewhere and it's not moving, it kind of goes into a sleep mode, where the connection to the iPad is not active. That means it's not sitting there just mindlessly draining battery. You can see this in action if you pick up your iPad and look at the Bluetooth symbol at the top right--it will be grayed out (if it's not connected to any other devices) and then the second you move your Apple Pencil, it will flash and connect to the Pencil.

With a case where the Pencil is always in the holder attached to the iPad, any time you use the iPad at all, the Pencil is connected and awake, because you'll always be moving the iPad around at least a little bit. It just takes the slightest movement to keep the Pencil connected.

With this Tech21 case, if I want to attach the Pencil holder to the side of the case, I can do that, but the whole thing pops off too, so I can just keep it in my desk drawer and attach it if I think I'm going to be doing something where I need the Pencil a lot.

Yeah--if you have that stuck to your iPad and are doing anything with the iPad, the Pencil will stay awake and drain battery faster. But the cool thing about what you have is you can take it off and leave it behind to prevent that from happening.

I've taken it off the iPad and set it on the night table . My Beats X are not connected ( Off ) but the Bluetooth is not greyed out and the pencil shows in the widget as connected .

PS : It's grayed out now and is disconnected , it took a few minutes to change .
PSS : I picked up the pencil without touching the iPad and it connected .

Soooo , you are 100% right ! Thank you for the info

You have to let it sit for a little while. Eventually it will go to sleep. I think it takes about 15 minutes or so.

Sorry if it's already been posted, but I just noticed ESR have their tpu back cover available for the 10.5 now.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073DY94FC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Had this on my 9.7 and found it just right with my Smart Cover, so I've been looking forward to the 10.5 becoming available. Just ordered mine and will post some photos once it's arrived tomorrow.
That actually looks pretty nice for a clear case. If that had been available earlier this week I probably would have placed an order for that instead of the iBlason. The openings look really tight and the back is likely less slippery than what I got. If they make that in black or charcoal I’ll definitely pick one up.

Here's my more long form impressions of the Tech21 case after using it last night and this morning:
/snip

Thanks for your feedback. I have yet to put mine in the case. One thing I noticed is that there was a small mark and scratch on the case that they had, but it was their only one (they told me I could come back and return it for another, next week, but I am not sure if I will). The mark is small and scratch is hairline (likely from them demoing it in-store).

The case feels nice though. The pencil holder on the one I got felt a lot tighter than the one I demoed, the other day. I am hoping it holds up, well.

5 -- what about the branding? It looks tacky in photos.
