I called Applecare today about my 128 GB 9.7 wifi and the restart issue. I was told to restore and if I still have the problem I should call back with case # to start a return.
I spoke to them as well and got the same response. My guess is that they just aren't aware of this issue yet. I'm sure once more people start reporting it they'll take notice and figure out the issue.

And Best Buy have pulled all 9.7" Pros from the site. Start the recall rumour mill! :p

I bought mine at best buy, I just checked and you are right they are gone..what the heck does that mean..good thing I have 30 days since Im an elite member but what the heck is going on

Add me to the list of people who've had issues with this. Haven't had this happen to me in the few months with the larger iPad Pro, but have had it a number of times on a 128GB Wifi 9.7 and once on a 256GB Wifi 9.7. Doesn't seem to be specific to any one app or instance, though I do regularly use YouTube, Safari, and split screen, which have all been mentioned here. I don't think it's a hardware issue, since it's just a partial restart (mine lets me use Touch ID to log back in), but who knows. I just bought my 256GB today from Apple, so it seems unlikely that Best Buy would know about this issue and pull stock before Apple even did.

When people are talking about the ipad crashing do they mean when they open up an app and it goes back to the home screen or something more serious..this morning my mail app crashed and went back to the home screen but I was able to open it up again and use it

It's a new apple feature called 'quick fresh', where the ipad automatically crashes when the memory is used up to free up system resources, wait...

I have a feeling it's hardware related somehow, because my first ipad crashed at least once a day and the new one hasn't crashed at all yet after a week of use. I'm just speculating though.

the crash shows you the start up apple logo for like 3 seconds like when you turn it off then on, and then the lock screen appears

Oh Ok that is different than what I experienced, the mail app today "Crashed" but when I say crashed I mean it went back to the home screen, no apple logo or anything like that it went to the home screen and I was able to open it again..Ive always had issues with the mail app even with the ipad air 2 I would have problems with it freezing its a lousy app

Considering that I've run in to a few odd memory related behaviors with some apps, I'm beginning to think it's just a software related memory allocation issue. My first iPad came loaded already with 9.3.1 meaning it was fresh off the boat and had the symptoms. This newer one I got just had 9.3 and is still doing the same thing.

I was playing around a bit with Polarr just now and it kept crashing on me (just the app, not the iPad). When I shut down everything else in the background the app worked fine - something I'd never experienced before on my larger iPad Pro or iPhone.

one thing i do get consistently is when i have about 3 normal tabs open with a resource intensive website and then try to switch to incognito it freezes safari pretty consistently

3 web sites..can you give me some examples I will check on my end..Ok this might sound silly but what is switching to incognito? I dont know why I get so obsessed with this kind of stuff with every new iPad I get fixated on something else, with the 1st ipad it was the light bleed, now its this

Igcognito is the "Private" mode on Safari. Mine doesn't lag any more or less than I'd consider normal, nor would I mind too much compared to the crashing that's happening about once a day to me.

Or maybe it's because the smaller iPad Pro just came out and hasn't been optimised yet...
[doublepost=1459737776][/doublepost]

Unlikely. Seems to just be a coding bug, should be fixed soon if it's even a little widespread.
I bet it is buggy because one was optimized to run off of 4gb RAM and one off of 2GB of RAM with the split screen

That's a reasonable explanation. I don't know how much the same version of iOS differs between devices, but that could quite possibly be it.
Hopefully that is the problem because if it is software related someone at Apple will notice this and get it resolved with a software update but if it is RAM or hardware then the consumers who bought the new iPad are screwed. Fingers crossed and waiting for next update from Apple. Hopefully someone from Apple is reading this and sees this problem

I just can't buy the fact that it's bad hardware since it's just a springboard crash. If the ram were bad the entire device would reboot or shut off which I've seen on devices with bad ram. All I'm seeing are occasional springboard crashes that last about 2-3 seconds.

Please try iOS 9.3.2 public beta. It seems to be stable. I have no crashes since the update today with my 9,7" iPad Pro 128 GB without LTE.

If that fixes the issue that is great news, maybe it was software related after all..Do you know how to solve the mail issue I keep on having(Same thing occurred in the iPad Air 2) when I would search for a specific email, sometimes the entire email would become greyed out and I would have to close the mail app and open it again for it to work..its weird not sure the cause..also how can I be sure that the screen quality of my iPad is good, I know silly question but its hard to tell and I want to be totally sure before I add more things to my iPad

My first iPad was doing it on 9.3.2. Apple wanted to exchange it and my second did it on 9.3.1 I didn't update to 9.3.2. Apple wanted to exchange again so far after two days its hasn't crashed. Hopefully it won't I am still on 9.3.1.

I’m pretty sure swapping out the ipad for these springboard resets is a complete waste of time. Don't get me wrong if you have the issue please report it to Apple. I’ve been following these threads on Macrumors and Apple discussion and people that swap them out are pretty much still getting the issue even setting up as a new device. Springboard resets from my exp are almost never a HW issues where as full reboots or shutdowns could be.

It also looks like the 1st beta of 9.3.2 doesn’t resolve the issue for 1 user so far. Beta 2 was released today and probably tomorrow as a public beta. I really hope Apple will fix this issue soon but I’m not going to waste my time going to the Apple store and exchanging as I’m 100%confident this is a software issue.

I've had 3 in the almost 2 weeks I've had the device. Not a deal breaker but would like to see it resolved.

I am still having crashes every day. Both springboard and full complete reboots. What the heck is going?is it software or hardware. Apple has been telling me it's my fault and i should set it up as new. I have 500 apps and various documents. I never had a problem with my IPad Air. I'm waiting for a swap, however swaps are refurbished. For God's sake its 3 weeks old. I paid over 1000 for this. Apple is threatening me and saying if I don't set up the swap as new, they will only provide Software support. This is ridiculous. I am so frustrated.

Do an iTunes backup. Archive it so you can safely go back to it whenever you want. Try restoring as new and see if the problems really do go away. If they don't, go for a replacement unit. Set that replacement up as new and play around with it for a day or so. If it checks out OK try restoring it and loading your archived backup. If the crashes return at this point you know it is a problem with the data you are restoring. It's not really your fault, but there's nothing Apple really can do either other than suggest starting from scratch.

Wait until tomorrow when public beta 2 of 9.3.2 is released. I'm on beta 1 and its solid. Looking forward to beta 2 tomorrow.

I'm still confident this isn't a hardware issue at least for the resprings. They are so random. Might go weeks without one but may get a couple a day.

Just when you think your updated or restored from scratch or swapped ipad is fixed it can still happen.

Try public 2 9.3.2 beta tomorrow. Your having a few more crashes then average. I'd like to see if this helps or fixes the issue. Can't hurt at this point.

My safari is now frozen and completely non-responsive, not even from opening a link, just to switching to incognito mode.

I honestly think I have a lemon or something, it's going in for exchange tomorrow. Apple care+ carries over right?

I think that is an issue with Safari, because I have that on my iPad Mini 4 and on the iPad Pro 9.7, and even sometimes on the iPhone 6s.

The only solution to it is kill Safari by swiping up, and reopening it. It will then be in incognito, with tabs all restored. It sometimes needs a few clicks on the home screen to get to the multitasking menu.

That is more definitely not a RAM issue, and is very much a Safari bug.
