Hello,

Has anyone been experiencing a 'system crash' when surfing safari and playing a video on YouTube?

I haven't been able to replicate it consistently, but it's happened a couple of times where I'll be typing something and have a video playing, and then suddenly the start up black screen with the apple logo shows up and then brings me back to the lock page and I have to relaunch everything.

Ideas? Experiences?

Start off with looking at the error log file in the diagnostics and statistics section of iOS settings.

I swapped over a week ago, and I haven't had a crash with my second ipad pro. so i think it actually may be some kind of hardware quirk of some kind.

and i've been using my second one much more extensively than the first

It's not a hardware issue. If it were the entire iPad would reboot or shut down. These are just springboard crashes due to software. I've been on 9.3.2 for over a week now and not one crash but that doesn't mean it's fixed. It's luck of the draw if it happens again. For the few people that replaced their iPad and have not had a crash your just lucky as its random. It will happen eventually until Apple patches it. We've seen many cases of this.

My third replacement just crash after 5 days of not crashing. I would say it has to be a software bug. I can't believe I could have gotten 3 defective iPads in a row. I will be happy for now if this one only crashes every 5 days or so. I will see how often it does this. I was hoping 9.3.2 beta 2 had a fix for this but I downloaded beta 2 and that was when it crashed. So maybe the next beta will have a fix.

Yes beta 2 is horrible. Major lag on both my iPad and iPhone.

I have had multiple springboard crashes and full crashes. What does that mean? Hardware and software problem?? This is so annoying.

I got my new IPP on launch day and restored it to my prior iPad. Initially in the first week I had multiple crashes per day and considered going back to Apple. However, I had perfect installations both on my screen protector and matte back skin so I was reluctant to return it and have to start over on that side. I started keeping track of crashes to be able to explain what I was doing and after 2 crashes a day apart, the crashes stopped. It's been over 12 days with no crashes or any issues at all. I'm wondering if it just took some time for all the apps to update and one of them was causing the issue. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was a software issue that somehow resolved with an update.

I had mine replaced twice and both replacements done it. Set up as new restored everything hopefully mine wil stop too.

Same symptoms here. 128GB wifi. Happens to me when going back to the home screen from safari mostly. Did a restore but it has done it once since then. Not sure if playing exchange roulette is worth it - the screen on this one is the best iPad Air form factor display I have ever gotten, and as others have said it seems to be a software bug....but odd that some users manage to make it go away with exchanges.

I exchanged and it didn't fix it so they exchanged again went 5 days but it did it again. So I wouldn't waste time exchanging it.

FWIW, this same thing was happening to me on an iPhone 6s Plus, no picture in picture involved whatsoever. In my case, it would frequently occur just after I unlocked the phone (whether through Touch ID or a manual passcode entry. It eventually became so tiresome that I restored the device (set up as new, not from backup) to completely reinstall iOS and it solved the problem for me. Sometimes these bugs can be a pain once they're buried in your iCloud/iTunes backups.

Yeah, but, I have been rolling this image for years. Losing all of that data in some of my games and such just isn't something I want to do. If Apple is serious about making the iPad a PC replacement allowing us to export the saved data from every app needs to start happening.

Most games can and do back their save data up via iCloud Drive these days, it can all be restored via iCloud as can the majority of your other data without having to actually restore from a backup.

I understand your hesitation to lose some data, but the fact of the matter is that if the issue is contained within your backups, you can restore on any number of replacement devices and it is going to eventually rear its ugly head again.

I restored and set up as new but that did not fix this issue.

I know it's unlikely a hardware problem, but I'm just saying I haven't had a crash of any kind since I got my new replacement

I had the same thing and then just a little bit ago my new iPad crashed on me. I don't know if it's just dumb luck or some perfect storm of conditions to cause things to crash, but there doesn't seem to be any logic to it.

I am starting to wonder if it is ESPN - it seems that it crashes after having that tab open when I am closing safari. Maybe it is some ad or something, one of my coworkers is using purify and hasn't had a crash yet.
[doublepost=1461541794][/doublepost]Was just digging through my diagnostics and usage data - decided to turn it on now so Apple can get crash reports from my device.

Try public 2 9.3.2 beta tomorrow. Your having a few more crashes then average. I'd like to see if this helps or fixes the issue. Can't hurt at this point.
Mine crashed twice with 9.3.2 beta 2 so I am back to 9.3.1 because I have been talking with second tier support and he only supports the current ios verison. I just restored and set up as new again this has not helped in the past but trying it again.

128gb wifi here that doesn't seem to crash at all doing multitasking, lots of tabs etc... Is safari a factor in all of these crashes? I use Chrome instead, I don't like it as much, but at least it seems stable?

For me it seems to happen when moving away from safari. I would suggest that everyone who is having it turn on diagnostic sharing to Apple - just so they get the logs and hopefully fix the bug.

It's happened to be 4 times now. 3 times with YouTube, 1 time when I was running word, Safari, was downloading house season 1 on the iTunes Store, andl listening to music.

It's the ram that's doing this...doesn't happen enough to be annoying, but it is happening.
I doubt it. I have had nearly zero springboard crashes on my Air 2 over the past year. Since getting my 9.7" pro I get them at least once a day now. My usage hasn't changed since getting the pro.

My gut says it is a memory handling bug with 2gb ram on the A9X - some code was missed or something. But who knows.

Crashed again on safari close. Bug type 298 - what do others show for the bug I wonder?
