I've had a 128gb wifi+cellular since launch day. Use it every day. Never had any crashes. Always on current final iOS release, including 9.3.2.

Had my first springboard crash today on latest build :(
Darn I haven't had one on the latest build but figure its just a matter of time. On 9.3.1 I had them everyday on the betas about 2 a week. So its getting better.

I actually had a springboard crash occur when I wasn't actively using my iPad Pro. This is the only one since updating to 9.3.2, but also the only time I've had it occur when it was just sitting idle.

It's not an issue of how much RAM is on the iPad pro 9.7. The Air 2 has the EXACT same amount of RAM and no one is having issues.

Its a software bug that Apple is aware of and has told a few people will be fixed in an update. We all started commenting here mid-way through the 9.3.2 beta process so they probably weren't able to get it fixed in time.
It is not strictly a software bug as it seems to affect one hardware configuration. It if were software-only, then the 12.9 iPP would suffer from the same issue.

There is a hardware component that is contributing to the problem. I'm not saying that there is a hardware problem, but there appears to be something unique with regard to the 9.7 iPP that is contributing.

It could be something as innocent as hardware support for TrueTone. There may be some hardware variation in the A9X processor present in the 9.7 that is different than the 12.9 that could contribute. Reports indicated that the A9X in the 9.7 is ever-so-slightly underclocked compared to the the 12.9 version. That shows that SOMETHING is different between the A9X in the 9.7 and 12.9.

IF the issue is indeed directly hardware related, Apple engineers will develop a workaround within iOS to circumvent the problem, the hardware issue will be addressed in future manufactured units, and customers will be none the wiser.

Yes but not ALL 9.7 iPad Pro units are affected. I updated mine OTA with no issues. So if it's hardware then its some variant of a component such as sourcing two different RAM suppliers, etc.

i think its related to size, 128gigs seems most common (im op, and since ivd replaced mine, no issues).

Will try 9.3.3 beta 1 to see if its fixed yet had my first one on the release verison of 9.3.2 last night.

It would help to not what sites you might be on that cause the crashing. I noticed my last two springboard crashes happened while closing the app while on CNN.com. I find that a bit odd and not just a coincidence.

Again it's not faulty hardware. If it were the entire device would shut down or reboot. These are just simple springboard crashes. Just like if a Mac or PC has bad ram you get a reboot or blue screen not one of your applications crashing. Springboard is just part of the os crashing.

me again, still no crashes since i got a replacement
Both my replacements crashed. They are only happen about once a week compared to everyday. Going to try 9.3.3 now that it is out for the pro 9.7.

I'm just downloading the latest beta to see if it fixes the crashes.

Update: no crashes so far!

Huh. I got these crashes semi-regularly on 9.3.1, but still haven't had a single crash on 9.3.2. Just lucky, I guess. Or, they figured out some way to minimize the crashes while working on a more permanent fix.

I've been doing a lot of stuff that would make my iPad crash before and still no crashes. I also reset all settings to be on the safe side. So far so good.

I had 3 crashes yesterday. And 1 crash today so far. Before that it had been a week with no crashes. Very strange. The logs show most of the time the largest process was webkit but once it was springboard.......

Mine also crashed for the first time after new update. It happened while I was trying to look for the widget to tell me the Apple Pencil battery life. The widget was installed already but it dissapears. Plugging the pencil in and out of the iPad is inconsistently the fix. It came back up on widget display and I fidgeted for a while and then the crash.

Not sure if it's related.

Oh, I also have 128GB, ROSE gold

is anyone on the iOS 10?

Yes. It's been crashing but different kind due to the bugs. I haven't had the same kind of crash as 9.x. So maybe some hope! Just gotta wait out the other crashes. Note: it's happening on my iPhone too so it isn't the same crash that we are discussing here.
