I still prefer my iPhone 6's display to the X, the colours go horribly wrong unless you're looking straight-on on the X, but the 6 worked at any angle.

What's that weird dent in one side of the X display though? I can't find a setting to remove it. The Note 8 for example doesn't have it. I sure love me a clean, symmetrical rectangle that doesn't intrude on the content.
Cool, you're welcome to have a preference. I, on the other hand, prefer not to have black bezels on the top and bottom of the display, that are unable to show useful information.

Buyers of $1200-$1500 mobiles have one reason NOT to feel guilty! That's the power of marketing, but still you need to pay for that as well !

Does anyone use TrueTone on the iPhone? Most people i've asked, have turned it off... (myself included)
At first I thought it was too yellow but I compared a white sheet of paper to the TrueTone display in a variety of lighting: they matched. Now I can’t bear to use any device without TrueTone as I find them way too blue.

Duh! and who do you think made AMOLED displays for Apple's iPhone X?
(hint: the same company that won pretty much all previous SID awards).

Designed by Apple, manufactured by Samsung. It's not as though Samsung was already making the iPhone's display, and Apple decided to go window shopping one day to see what display to put in their phone.

I'm so tired of repeating this, over and over again.

Samsung produced the display - Apple designed it. Therefore, it can be better than a display Samsung designed. It is not like Apple asked Samsung to let them use the Galaxy S9 screen for iPhone X.

One touch on my fp reader unlocks much faster though because I never have to align my face to do it, it's basically already unlocked by the time I've brought the phone into my field of sight...?

And I'm still not seeing a notch on the Note 8 nor the upcoming Note 9 seems to have it.

Every time someone explains why Touch ID is better than Face ID, all they seem to do is point out a way Face ID could be improved. There is nothing inherently bad about Face ID, if you correct one or two of the "major" flaws like angle of view, speed, etc. (which Apple will undoubtably do in the years to come) then Face ID will be better than Touch ID, even if you think it's not now.

You've still got that clean, symmetrical rectangle with full view of your content. Because the notch doesn't intrude into your 16:9 space, the screen extends into the notch outside of it.

I have Truetone turned off on my iPhone X, but do use it on my iPad Pro 10.5. Both displays are winners in my opinion. I'm always amazed at how good the iPad Pro looks when I turn it on.

The display is the best thing about the iPhone/iPad. It’s the only reason I haven’t switched to another brand.

weird. i was holding the note 8 a couple of days ago and there was some kind of dirt at the top of the display. right and left of the earpiece, camera and sensors. it was blocking so much space that could be used for some real good stuff and extra information. was probably just a lemon or a defective device

Funny people forget these are Samsung screens

Can you show me one person who "forgot" that? Let alone "people".

So calibration of the year?

Not just calibration, but greater quality requirements and at a higher cost that Samsung was willing to pay to put in their own phones.

What design? You mean Apple designed the iPhone frame? LOL..

No, these are the same displays engineered and manufactured by Samsung, tweaked for their customer, Apple. It's not surprising that Apple won the award this year, considering that Samsung won pretty much all previous mobile display award from SID preceding years and all Apple did was to use Samsung's same displays.

Tweaked? You mean built to specifications too expensive for their stuff. Apple designed, in the very least, the fold under display that every single manufacturer will copy in the near future to eliminate the chin on the phone.

?? that's odd.. Samsung won SID awards past several years until the last one, when Apple finally switched to Samsung bleeding cutting edge AMOLED display tech in their iPhone.

Hmm.. I guess the iPhone display wasn't really your reason for sticking to Apple? ;) or at least your misguided view doesn't seem to reinforce or negate SID's decision to award Apple iPhone X this year.
