I like it for what it can do as a mobile device. A Wacom Intuos tablet and pen have control and nuance that the Apple Pencil doesn't have (yet). I'm ditching the Wacom only because it's inconvenient and ties me to a computer. The iPad Pro and Pencil gives me enough control and a lot more freedom, so the drawbacks are minor and it's a pretty organic experience, too! I have more time to practice my drawing instead of wondering when I can get my to desk at home or work.

Lame analogy. Wacom and Apple are now in DIRECT competition.

I can see that they're in sort of direct competition with the Cintiq line of on-screen tablets, only if you pair it with the AstroPad app. The iPad is a self-contained computer, whereas a Wacom tablet is just a peripheral.

I just don'T get it. There are so many much better drawing applications out there, but all I hear each time is Photoshop...

Photoshop is a tool that takes extensive learning to get the results that these apps try to simplify and make easy to use for the average consumer. Could be a drawback on productivity if you don't want to take the time to learn the tools. It's like using an Instagram filter for black and white vs. actually mixing channels to get the exact tones you want.

Cause ironically pros are the hardest bunch of people to change, just look at FCPX, sure the initial release was a dud but now it's a very capable DAM yet people still want FCP9 when FCPX has improvement over many other areas. And there's Affinity Photo which does things faster then Photoshop yet still not many people are changing to it.

On the other hand, Serif is working on Affinity Designer for iPad Pro ;)

So once Apple solves the issue of "how do I bring my media in?" or "how do I get my media out without having to use the internet", then we will see more pro apps in it and my guess is Apple is not rushing into it cause they have to take care of security and etc. which lets be honest, allowing people to put in their media via different channels if not done properly could compromise iOS itself. So I rather them take their time to figure things out and get it right when release it (and this gives more time for developers to prepare their software for iPad Pro)

You must be a crappy artist. A real artists can draw amazing thins with MS paint or even a poo stick.

It's not the tool's fault.

To me this is a joke...seriously...you really need an iPad pro to draw??? For me, as a photographer and artist, it is useless because it cannot run a full version of the Photoshop and it doesn't have a file management system. I do not need more toys.

Your camera can't run Photoshop, and it doesn't have a file management system. Is it useless?

Apple Pencil + iPad Air size = heaven (for me, anyway)
That's what I'm waiting for too. I still feel like my iPad 3 doesn't need upgrading, but I'll make the switch if the next iPad supports this stylus.

Nice drawings. However they don't look any better than drawings on previous gen iPads with other styli being used.
Absolutely. I think the appeal for me is how fast+natural it is, it might replace my sketchbook if it's good enough!

One of the killer features I was hoping for with the iPad Pro was some kind of second-display connectivity effectively turning the iPad into a Cintiq, mirroring the image displayed on the Mac. But that you could also just unplug and use as a portable sketchbook too. I hope it eventually gets that ability.

Just use Astropad?

The iPad won't make you an artist overnight. Practice will.

Ps anyone in the Dayton area that wants a pencil they are in stock at beaver creek. Order online.

As. A photographer the iPad has been a dream to shoot into. I will need a desktop for Photoshop for now but the days are growing shorter for needing a desktop.

Agreed. And it's greener, also. For every 170,000 Apple Pencils sold we save a tree...

http://www.treehugger.com/culture/2-billion-pencils-and-a-school-supply-quandary.html

While the Apple Pencil is great and all, I hope you do realize that a lot of energy and resources go into its making, not to mention the iPad it goes with.

It's hardly a "greener" alternative; in terms of energy use alone (a large portion of which comes from fossil sources) we are probably talking about it being 170.000 times more expensive than a regular pencil.

Then again you can't play Puzzle Bobble with a piece of wood.

Great. Maybe now they can draw my redesigned rMBP with Skylake, because at this rate, that's the only 'leak' we'll get.
Not really relevant to this thread, is it?

Great art. I wish the product was more accessible.
It's very accessible. All you have to do is buy it. Very easy to do.

I think "more accessible" means, "less expensive". As in "more accessible to poor college students, and the like."
You could say that about everything. As a college student, I couldn't buy everything I wanted. That's just the way it is.

To me this is a joke...seriously...you really need an iPad pro to draw??? For me, as a photographer and artist, it is useless because it cannot run a full version of the Photoshop and it doesn't have a file management system. I do not need more toys.
OK then. The iPad is NOT designed to be a computer running full PS. If that's what you want, there are plenty of choices. But don't condemn the iPad which serves a great purpose for many, just not to you.

Everyone keeps misunderstanding the original comment about it not being more accessible. It isn't accessible. I bought my iPad pro day one and there still aren't any pencils in stock. The closest I can get is ordering online from Apple and waiting 4-5 weeks for it to ship.

This is one of the worst Apple launches in a long time. It is almost like they didn't expect anyone to want a stylus.

As for the person that said they need photoshop and a file system, I can understand. I personally don't use photoshop, but that is because I don't like leasing software. However, few programs are as versatile. Photoshop is used by artists, photographers, editors, cinematographers, and more. It is also an industry standard so learning it well can only have a positive impact on your creative career. A file system is needed because the cloud is limited at this point.

On a different note, I know everyone keeps saying the cloud is the future, and to some extent I agree. The problem I see is that the high cost of mobile data is slowing down its usefulness as a truly mobile solution. Mobile data is vastly overpriced when you compare what companies like TMobile offer versus ATT or Verizon.
