The key is to just wait slightly.
I did that and already saved and got a $879 retail iPP 9.7 128 w/ LTE for $750, new off eBay.

You have to get a great deal going in as the resale simply isn't there.

One should also remember that many of us almost look at the upgrades as our yearly installment plans into an entertainment or business budget.

For many, the iPads are really just an enjoyable expense, sort of like going to live sports, or a cable bill, etc and part of that enjoyment is having a new one each year to enjoy the latest and greatest.

Anyone coming from an iPad Air 2 will have buyers remorse. Heck I'd be mad as hell than in 15 months the iPad Air has been blown out of the water.

Its the same size and weight and resolution and its gonna feel like theres nothing special.

Honestly If I owned an iPad Air 2 I would not Upgrade at all.

I came from an iPad Air 2 and am just thrilled with the iPad Pro. I see a huge difference. Love the screen and in the past I've gone for shiney glossy screens, but I really like this new one. I love the pencil also. Not bothered with the key board.
Absolutely without a doubt, no remorse whatsoever!

I did a 'erase all content and settings' on mine and now it won't connect via LTE. The idiots at AT&T didn't even know that there was a built in SIM. 2 hours and nothing.

Not an eBay fan when it comes to electronics - I'll pay the extra and go with store front businesses.

Ok - To each his own...but why if you don't mind my asking?

If there's a really good deal to be had, why not eBay?

Not everything is a "scam" on eBay - Lots of people just can't afford/don't need a brick and mortar presence in retail anymore.

If the faster processor, better screen, better speakers, and pencil support don't convince you, then yes, return it.

Yeah, this keeps coming up but its quite apparent that for many users those "upgrades" arent exactly ground breaking or even noticeable. Faster processor? Maybe on paper but in real-world use is it REALLY that much better. The OP doesnt seem to think so. Better screen? I suppose. Sort of, maybe. Meh. Speakers? 4 is better than 2. But again... real world use. If you mainly use headphones or use a bluetooth speaker its not important. Pencil? discussed many times - not everyone cares. Just saying.

I have to say, the speakers might be the best upgrade of all.
Stunningly better, especially in "real world use"

That is a significant discount! By retail I assume it's brand new w/Shrinkwrap? Could you post a link?

Sorry, I wish I could but it wasn't a traditional retailer with a bunch of stock - Just a guy that had a couple through working at a carrier store and we worked out a direct price to benefit us both.

As we all know, a little communication, extra effort and working out a good deal for both sides is the way to go in all forms of business when possible. :)

I encourage all buyers to be creative and directly contact sellers when able.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you for waiting. I took the plunge head first and got mine full retail LTE iPP model as soon as it launched. If I had waited.. I could have shaved off 150 or so.

It doesn't necessarily have to be eBay... Best Buy gives discounts as well.

Warranty is a concern for me. Part of the reason for Apple's high prices is customer service so I prefer buying Apple products from an authorized reseller.

Some ebay sellers are authorized so I'm okay buying from them but some, you can't find information if they're authorized or not.

I'm not sure this actually matters though...

We had a similar discussion going about the iPhone SE's being sold on eBay (non Apple Authorized sellers) and the anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that there's no issue adding Applecare+ to a device that's new from places like eBay as long as you show some proof of recent purchase and the phone checks out ok in person at the Apple Store.

No remorse here coming from an Air 2. I'm really liking the True Tone and 4 speakers. Aside from those two things I don't notice any difference performance wise vs my Air 2. If I didn't really want the rose gold option, 4 speakers and Smart Connector I would have just kept my Air 2.

None of these upgrades are noticeable at all coming from sn Air 2. Its not noticeably faster, the screen isn't noticeably better. The speakers? Probably. As stated repeatedly, if you don't need the oencil or keyboard, there's no reason to leave the Air 2.

Got my iPP 9.7" 32GB Wifi earlier today, coming from an iPad Air 2 which I sold. It has been a big disappointment. Yes the speakers are good and the screen is better, but in general use, the interface is not more responsive than the Air 2. Which is surprising since the iPP 12.9" i tried in store was noticeably quicker. Updating it didn't help.

Whether this is down to slightly downclocked CPU/GPU, less ram or i just got a lemon i don't know. But i'll be returning it and considering a 12.9" pro, as the base model is only $120 more expensive than the 9.7" base model here in Norway.

and 1.5 year old standard RAM, gen 1 touch ID, USB2 transfer speed

you left that out

if you have an iPad Air 2, unless you are going to heavily use the pencil, it's the worst update Apple has had for the iPad since it's inception, especially considering the 1.5 wait

Even shrink wrapped brand new devices can have problems and I would rather deal with the Apple store if that happens. I like the 2 week return for any reason policy when needed.

Just wait for iPad Pro 2 - October 2016. It would be the best iPad ever

Did you mean Oct, 2017? That's what I'm thinking. I agree that it will be the best iPad ever. :)

I actually had quite the opposite experience, my 10" feels snappier than the "13 that I returned. Maybe you're not doing something right. Lol

Don't see how anyone could use an iPad "wrong" to cause UI lag but oh well. I only had a few apps open, only 1 safari tab and so on, nothing that should've slowed it down. But i guess it's down to variance between devices. I'm glad yours is snappy and working well! Enjoy it :)

So take a pass on it already.

There are a hell of a lot of others who have upgraded from older iPads and we've upgraded to the latest and greatest iPad that Apple has to offer at THIS . POINT . IN . TIME.

And for now, my iPad is superior to your iPad in every respect - even how it writes to that 2GB of RAM that you so despise.

I like these threads the best. Only rich people don't have buyers remorse (and perhaps they wish they had? )

Only human
