I'm really torn as to if I should pre-order on the 11th or take my chances and go to an Apple store. lol
K.
Or you could do both. Pre order than if it shows up in the Apple Store before the delivery (like with the ATV) then cancel or return the pre order and pick up one at the Apple Store. That's what I will probably do since I got "burned" on the ATV.

Since I've never pre-ordered, I don't know the answer to this, but can't you pre-order and request pick-up at your local store? Other retailers like Sears and Target give you that option. You can place an order on line and then choose whether to have it shipped to you or pick it up at the store. If it's in stock, you can just pick it up immediately. If not, they ship to the store. It would kind of surprise me if Apple doesn't give you the same choice. In effect, you'd just be reserving it at the store.

I'm going to take my chances and just go to the store, since I want to see and feel and heft it before I decide if it's the right thing for me.

Not sure Apple or any other stores will have it on display the day of release, time will tell.

I can always wait until it is on display but I have been waiting long enough to buy it and I can always return it.

This seems disorganized. You call Apple stores and they say they don't know, or later in the week. Well who does know? To keep Apple stores in the dark is silly.

I presume it will be on display in stores on release day. (Not pre-order day.)

Not disorganized at all. Apple has announced the pre-order day (tomorrow) but has not yet announced the release day. Until Apple officially announces the release day, the people in the stores will not tell you, in part because they probably do not know. If Apple told store workers, it would leak out. Apple did say later in the week, but they will announce it when they want us to know. As of today, they don't want us to know and there's not a d..... thing we can do about that but wait. So release day is Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Lots of folks are guessing Friday, but Saturday is certainly possible.

I'll bet that when pre-ordering goes live they'll tell us when we can go to the store to get it.

im sure when you preorder it on wednesday it will have the release day on there with shipping estimates

Apple spoon feeds their employees information like they do to the general public.
Saying that the iPad Pro will be available later in the week is so vague! End of the week could mean any day from Thursday to Saturday. I called the local Apple Store (as well as calling Apple's nationwide number) and the employees don't have a clue about when the iPad Pros will be available in the store. They just repeat the same "end of the week" story. They also say they don't know when iPad Pros ordered tomorrow will be delivered or shipped.
Not sure of the reasoning behind this unless it's to discourage people from camping out. In any case it doesn't help one to make a decision about whether to order online or take their chances in the store. So, I'll just do both like I had to do with the Apple TV. Now, if everyone does that then I suspect they would run out of stock real fast. I think Apple is rather short sighted and doesn't seem to care about long term repercussions of their illogical decisions about how to handle product launches.

In Australia it would be close to impossible to get it delivered Friday. So Apple Store would be the way to go.

But like the appletv it'll be a complete mess. They only got stock at 12pm and then they were told they could sell but the system wasn't letting them do it till 5pm (12am PT) and then they were told a way to overwrite. I rocked up at 3pm and got one but chances are they'll have 3 cellular models only so a risk here

It's also a good thing that deliveries aren't this week. It means that the Apple Store is getting their own stock expedited and chances are first thing in the morning launch Friday.

Yes, it was. (Apple TV mess). There are those (not me though) who paid an additional $17 for expedited shipping and still got theirs after they were available in the Apple Store.

Again, Apple never said "Pre Order".

You're right. They said "on-line order," which I am calling pre-order because it begins before the tablet is actually available. And I'd wager that for people within easy shipping distance, if you order it on Wednesday before, say, mid-afternoon, you'll get it on release day.

I'm not going to do the double-order thing because, for one, that seems like bad form, buying something when you know you're going to return it. If enough people do that, they'll stop accepting returns and the rest of us would lose the right to return things that didn't work out for us. Basically, you're queering the game for everyone when you play that game. And two, I just don't think it's that important to get it the very first day. Patience is a virtue. Come on folks, it's a tablet, for crying out loud. Nobody NEEDS to get the latest gadget the very first day. The only reason I'm planning on visiting the store on day 1 is that I can get there without burning gasoline. If I had to burn gasoline to get there I'd wait until I could combine it with other errands in the same area.

If the item is unopened then I don't think Apple cares much plus the open box items will be used to service broken and damaged iPads in the future or sold to someone else for $50 cheaper. Either way Apple stays winning.

I'm surprised nobody else has posted here this morning. I just ordered an iPad Pro on line, for pickup TODAY at my local Apple store. At least, the web site says "Available today," which greatly surprised me since I assumed it would be later in the week. The store does not open until 10:00 a.m., and I'm in the Pacific time zone, so I don't expect the "your item is ready" email before then.

For orders to be shipped, it says earliest delivery is Friday, at an additional cost. Free delivery on Monday.

Just says "coming soon" on Best Buy's website. Since it is so close I'll take a ride there anyway being I was told they would sell it as soon as they got it. Maybe the website is not updated so I'll go just in case.

At Apple? Nope, not me as I get 18 months financing at BB and return date is January 15 and I don't have $1000 cash to fork over.

Apple does offer financing. I don't know the terms. I never borrow money. If I can't pay for something, I can live without it. Going into debt makes no sense other than for a home, or something that enables you to make money. Personally, I think that going into debt to buy a tablet is a poor life choice, since you'll pay so much more in the long run, unless you need it for work.

Mine is ready for pick up. Just not sure if the store is open yet. I'll go in at the regular opening time.
