I was going to hold out for the Air 3 but after watching a ton of video reviews/demos of the Pro, I decided the extra screen space would be good for me and make me a better person. It's being delivered today

iPad Pro is too big so...

You know what they say. The bigger the iPad, the blacker the...hrm.

I will be returning my iPad Pro that i got a couple of days ago and wait for the Air 3. It's too big for my use, and a bit heavy for holding in one hand. But the most annoying issue is the motion blur, especially when scrolling webpages. I know the Air has it too, but with the smaller screen it's nowhere near as bad.

And you told him your opinion because...?

See? We can all do that, and you know what they say about opinions. Personally, I went from a Mini to a Pro and I'd never go back. I love the size and use it more than my MBP - but that's me and obviously some people think it's too big or heavy or expensive... but as it's my primary device most of the time, I personally disagree.
Difference is that he got triggered.

Obviously he likes the iPad pro. I made it clear it was too big. He felt he made to make it clear that I was...saying my opinion?

Which was confused by because why would you need to say that unless you seem uncomfortable.

Either way, he got triggered. :D

I don't think there is a correct answer in the end. Having options are good.

In a perfect world the only differences between devices would be screen size. Sometimes you have to make compromises based on limited space, but it would be nice to simply select the form factor that appeals to you and know you are still getting all the features possible.

Had the "6c" or "5se" launch along side the 6s/+, that situation would very nearly have been realized.

My opinion:
iPad Air - good for actual tablet related work such as emails, meetings, notes, entertainment on an airplane, etc.
iPad Pro - good for drawing, building biceps, and a relatively decent substitute in lieu of a baseball bat

I always feel it warrants a response when people just get on here to troll. I posted a legitimate thread about value of the iPP being better than the Air 3 when the Air 3 coming out if price remains the same and potential specs remaining what has been leaked so far. Obviously people will have different needs on what they think is the best size wise, but to get on here and just blare out "The iPP is too big" does nothing to contribute to the conversation and is basically trolling.

And regarding me getting "triggered" and thinking the iPP is the best, I actually own an Air 2 and use that a lot too. Between the two devices, they each have their own merits and uses.

The high price point of the iPad Pro has turned out to be a good thing because the price drops from computer stores have been higher than they have ever been for the iPad Air and mini line. We have never seen a $150 price drop on the regular size and mini size iPads in the first 6 months since the release of a device.

I am impatiently waiting for the specs on the iPad Air 3. I use my iPad Air instead of a planner at work and for emails when traveling. Other than that I also use it for Internet, video watching, paying bills, etc. I truly hope it comes with the ability to use the Pencil.

I still use my 6S Plus 75% of my Apple time - due to its bigger size but ease of holding.

I really want the air 3 to have pencil support. I still want to write notes but ipad 9.7 is big enough to remain portable. Slapping four speakers in the air 3 isnt enough for me to bother with an upgrade. I have an apple pencil unopened that im holding onto waiting to see what they do with the air 3. If it has pencil support I will keep the pencil and purchase if not I will sell the pencil and pass to next generation.

Are we all now required to say "in my opinion" when stating our opinions lest we be labeled a troll? I think it was pretty obvious that Noble Actual's post was his opinion. I don't feel like anyone needed to point that out.

In my opinion, of course.

FYI, the pencils are plentiful now (North Michigan Avenue had about 10 of them, and nearly as many smart keyboards this morning), so if you are within your return period, I'd just return it, and buy it back next month if it turns out the iPad Air 3 supports it.

I've had my Pro and the Pencil since launch day in the UK and it still puzzles me why people are getting hung up on the 'Pro' branding. It's just a big iPad, runs the same OS as all the others - but better and some apps allow extra layers and bigger workspaces.

Whether the Air 3 has the A9x and so does the Pro does not matter. It's like saying that you wished the MacBook Airs still had Core 2 Duo processors instead of an i5/i7 low power chip of the same architecture that is in the MacBook Pro.....

As for me well I hope the Air 3 has all the features of the iPad Pro but also has a 256GB option. That way I can assume with a degree of certainty the iPad Pro 2 will have that as an option and hopefully they'll shave some weight (I think 600g would be the sweet spot in terms of weight to size). Also does anyone use wired headphones with the iPad Pro, get rid of the headphone jack!

If you ask people for an opinion, you should not complain when you get it.
Personally I wouldn't get a pro if it was cheaper than the Air3 because of its form factor.
Therefore, to me, the Air3 is better value. And that is my opinion.

At no point in my post did I ask for anyone's opinion so I'm not sure where you're getting that from. When people come on these forums and just say "Well I don't like blah" or "I think blah is too big or too small", they are doing nothing to contribute to the conversation and are purely trolling. Do you understand?

The factors that I mentioned value wise are purely technology based and not something debating opinion. People could get on here and say the mini is the best size for them, therefore they think the value of the mini is the best. What I mentioned in my Original Post was pure specifications talking price point with processor speed, ram, and screen size.

So basically your post was intended as a statement of fact and to dissent is to "troll" and invite derision.

I get that any product on discount is a good deal especially compared to a product not on discount. That's kind of a truism.

But a product I don't want will never be a "better deal" than one I do want. At any price.

Also the only thing we know for sure will be different between the pro and the air 3 is screen size. Everything else is rumour. If it comes to pass that the air 3 has extremely similar specs and features to the pro besides for screen size, then for anyone who values a compact package will find the air a vastly better value. If someone values a bigger screen, you can weight the added value of the bigger screen against the added cost of the pro (even on sale), and decide if it's a good deal. In both cases it still comes down to personal preference, aka opinion.

Edit: also your original claim is incorrect. Pro 32gb is $799, pro 128gb is $949.

Now that the Air 3 is "confirmed" to have the a9x processor, the question most people will be asking is "which iPad is the better deal?"

I'm going to go ahead and say that iPad Pro will be the better deal if you can get it at its current price point from Staples or from other sales that might be occurring keeping the 128gb model at $799.

Consider that the iPad Air 3 will most likely still start at 16gb and go up to 64gb, and then 128gb with prices being $499, $599, and $699 respectively.

Additionally the Air 3 will most likely have 2gb of ram and a slightly slower a9x processor as to not be considered as "pro" as the IPP.

So for $100 more, you can go from the Air 3 to the Pro with 2gb more ram, a faster processor, and a larger screen.

The best value will absolutely be the iPad Pro if you can get it at the sale price.

Where is it confirmed that the iPad Air 3 will have the A9X processor? Apple hasn't confirmed anything about the iPad Air 3 yet. I agree that the Air 3 will have the A9X but until Apple confirms what it will or won't have is just rumours, guesses and opinions. And that's my opinion.

I'd LOVE for the Air 3 to have the same amount of RAM as the IPP, but I doubt it will. If it keeps the same resolution as the Air 2, with the A9X CPU, then things could be pretty interesting. Well, the A9x with a lower clock speed, can't lose the sale of a single IPP.

Pen support is a bit trickier for Apple. Pen support would push more Air 3 sales, but at a bit of an expense to IPP sales. I'm guessing they do put in support, as the screen size and weight make the IPP simply a no-go for some people. Kinda like the iPhone 5/5S folks who didn't upgrade to the 6/6+ nor the 6S/6S+ So much so, that Apple is bringing out the new 4" iPhone.

aces99 - read this - http://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-johny-srouji-apple-chief-chipmaker/

If you are referring to this
"(In March, Apple intends to announce an updated iPad and smaller-screen iPhone featuring the latest A9x and A9 chips, according to a person familiar with the plans, who wasn’t authorized to comment publicly.)"

It still has not been confirmed by Apple. I don't seen where anyone from Apple confirming it. But I do believe the A9X will be in the Air 3 but Apple hasn't confirmed it for sure yet.

Really disappointed that you left out the most obvious 'plus' of the Pro...

I have it on good authority that in the event of one having to ditch a trans-Atlantic flight, the iPP can be reliably used as a life raft.

And as for anyone wanting to make references to 'that' scene in Titanic, involving the door(?)... Puhleaaase think for a moment: Ice build-up on the iPP in that kind of water environment, would make same highly improbable....

I could imagine that Apple is establishing a Pro line of iPads similar to the MacBook Pro. That could mean that there will be big iPad Pro (12.9") and a small iPP (9.7") . In that case they might release now an updated "normal" iPad Air and in the Fall a new 9.7" iPP with Pencil support and so on.....

My iPad Pro has given me a whole new appreciation for my IPad Air. I use the pro at work often and its great but keep my Air by my bed. I had a mini but have that to my brother when I got the pro.

All that to say the Air still has one of the best form factors for casual surfing and fits perfectly in the hands for two thumb typing. Not getting rid of mine any time soon.

Had the same problem that I liked the Air very much in sutiations like reading in bed and so on but find it too cumbersome to maintain (charge, upgrade...) two iPads. Because of that I sold my Air last week. The "solution" for me was after I used the Air mainly in landscape orientation I am using the Pro now in portrait orientation in bed. It had the same same width and resolution in portrait than the Air in landscape. The only thing I am missing is the iPhone 6 feature of bringing the top down in portrait mode with the home button. That would be nice in such situations.....

So what were you looking for with the post in the forum? For people to just reply with, "Yep"? To most people there is a strong subjective component to "value" - the sum of the price point of the parts is interesting but a lot of other elements go into product choice; e.g., if I felt it's too big and I wouldn't use it as a result then it's value to me is extremely low. Posting on a user forum and not expecting to get opinions? Good luck.
