Because it doesn't need it.

iPad Pro needs what it gets for use cases. iPhone does not "need" USB-C for anything at all. You simply want USB-C because you want a (sort of) one connector existence.
iPhone most definitely needs it. Stupid that you have multiple charging cords. Just update them all to USB-C and be done with it. Jobs liked to keep thing simple and this is a simple and easy as you can make it.

I hope the better cameras means the same cameras as the iPhone 12 Pro. In any case the new mini-LED will ensure I order on day 1, as the iPad Pro is my main device for work and leisure
Agreed. A lotta folks balk at the idea of an iPad being a good camera, and maybe its size is not ideal. But for folks that don't want or need to invest in higher end gear, an iPad on a tripod or a gimbal mount could be great for seeing a large image while shooting, plus all the menu items associated with iOS camera apps. I could see using both my iPhone 11pro in-hand for quick stills and the iPad for video while on set.

Is Thunderbolt 4 (the one that can be used without an Intel processor) backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3? Can you use a 5K ultra fine display with it? If so it may be time to upgrade from my 2018.

Lightning bolt support is great, but honestly - the initial iPad Pro 3rd Gen is so frickin great, I haven't even started on thinking about dumping it. Apple did a hell of a job with it to the point where, as Steve Jobs famously said, "it just works". I'm with @rp2011 though - if I can get a good flavor of Logic and FCP running on it, it might just tempt me.

Of course they'll have Thunderbolt. What a shame it would be to design your own Thunderbolt controller and then not use it in all your computers.

That isn't a need, that's a want by a vocal minority.

There is no real need for Apple to change from Lightning to USB-C for iPhones. The next move they will make is to remove the port entirely and not replace it.

Getting rid of a cord for the sake of convenience is not a reason to make every iPhone 50% thicker. And no, Steve Jobs would not have done it.
