“Later this year, Apple plans to refresh its cheapest ‌iPad‌, and Apple is also working on a new version of the iPad mini with a larger display.”

Keep on wait...! Ugh!

Will Facetime work in Horizontal mode?

Also about the iPhone and Thunderbolt. I hope someday they will say they have a breakthru product. An iPhone, a Mac Mini, and Holodeck Projection Device. Repeats 3 times. It is not 3 separate products. It is one device.

I wonder if they will add more robust external monitor / multiple display support to iPadOS. If they added this as an exclusive feature for the new iPad Pros it would make for a very tempting upgrade... not many other things I can think of that would entice me, but that would be pretty sweet.

decided on an iphone 12 mini so i could get the new ipad mini...hope the ipad mini comes out soon...

I've often wondered if the M1 and the A14X are essentially the same chip just with different names, and if the iPad Pro gets Thunderbolt that would imply the two might in fact be identical (or at most the A14X might just be a lower clocked version of the M1).
I’ve had the same thoughts. Has to be pretty darn close...

My daughter has the M1 MBP and I love it, I also pondered buying the M1 air today, but then I’d end up with the 12.9’ pro and the M1 Air. Whoops. Going to keep sitting on the credit card for now. I keep things too long to rush in... but I sent the oldest the 2015 mbp sooooo....... 🤣🤣

This new 12.9 iPad Pro would make for a difficult decision between it and a newly redesigned 14” M1/M2 MacBook Pro.
I’m not sure which would be more expensive.
Don't look at it that way. Only one decision that matters => Do you much prefer iPadOS or macOS? Once you know that answer then which device to go with is an easy answer.

Presently, support for external display in iPadOS was kinda limited (black stripes).
So is this rumour somehow implying that the limited support was only due because of the nature of the port (USB instead of TB3)?

Unfortunately [or fortunate whichever way you look at it] neither device replaces the other, and they are designed to work together.
I would say the choice comes down to OS, mobility and use of the pencil if I had to choose.

Figures, after I bought one. I like the one I have, and am not sure what a thunderbolt port would add. *shrug* They seem to be muddying their product line, IMO. Hmm...
