Unless Apple has some magic AR stuff that will use 3 cameras...why?

I use my iPad camera every few months to scan a document. But the flat profile iPad mini camera works fine for that purpose. I'd rather have a completely flat back.

Why? Using a phone for family snaps and other casual photography has been great and saves me lugging around a bigger camera plus lenses, etc. I've even seen some pro photographers make a good living from phone photos, but an iPad? The only people I have seen using an ipad for photography are the type that get in EVERYONES way in public spaces because they simply must get the shot at all costs.

If you use it for work out in the field, great I'm sure it's a very hand tool, but lets face it they are mainly used by the type of photographer who barges everyone out of the way at gigs or at the zoo to try and get that professional shot while looking anything but professional.

I hope they release a more durable ipad pro. I want to buy one but the durability concern holds me back. I travel a lot and I’m not sure if it can withstand being in the bag for long hours.

Their price is already crazy compared to the entry level iPad. I love my Pro but I’d think twice before paying for costly features I will rarely use. Perhaps it’s exactly what people want. How would I know. I’d rather have a flush back camera like my first iPad.

The image is clearly a fake. That is obvious to everyone, right?

Now, will Apple actually bring the real eyesore triple lens to iPad? Of course, it's just not going to look like a piece of plastic adhered to last year's model.

Yes, I have concerns now that I’ve started noticing a couple of 3 mm cracks arcing 1 mm from the surround on the front of my 11” pro. I have no idea how they got there as there is no sign of impact. Always lives in a fold over case. Will take back to Apple when I can.

no. that is fake... it has to be

on the new iPhones - it looks alright, not beautiful but solid
that picture though... ugh
It says design mockup. Probably a placeholder for the final camera design. Remember we got a number of iPhone 11 mockups that don’t look anything like the final product.

To me, it looks better than the triple camera design of the iPhone 11 Pro.
And yes, I have seen many people using iPad (or tablets in general) to take photos.

I've seen many people shooting vertical video. Doesn't make it right.

The ‘lens’ positions look totally wrong.

If this is based on a case template then there's no way the person making the mockup knew the lens positions. Also, that horrendous circle in the centre is clearly just a manufacturing issue for the mockup.

£100 cheaper with no camera please. Or with case and no camera.

£200 cheaper with a single flush camera and no FaceID please.

In my head, I’m mocking this hard because I, too, have only ever used my iPad camera to take advantage of an unexpected photo op of my cat looking silly and the occasional photo when my iPhone wasn’t available, as in taking pictures of my iPhone itself.

Publicly, I will refrain and let the people who want this feature relish the possibility that this could be happening for them.

Personally, from what I’ve seen of kids using their iPads for FaceTime, it’s the front camera that needs to be really good.

yes I've used iPads to take pictures in field work. comes in handy, but idk this is a little intense.

does it have to be the rear right, why not a single strip in the top middle?

I don’t use the rear camera on the iPad and don’t want to pay the extra cash for it either (like iPhone 11 vs 11 pro). FaceTime camera improvements are welcome though..

Maybe they should add a choice like cellular or not, 3 cameras or one.

Well, since the price on these things is astronomical, sure put the 11 Pro's cameras on there as well - may not be used by everyone but will be used by some. Do have to qualify it though, no increase in price.

This would also give the "Pro" iPad a lens based zoom, which it hasn't had before, linking up to the Pro features of the iPhone.

Do this many people take pictures with their iPad? Like really?

I see people (often of advanced age) using iPad's all the time for photos. But if they like it and it works for them - no skin off our nose, right?

Since this is the high end iPad price level, sure put the best cameras on it - let those folks use it. Those who want to do video editing / photo editing on device this might work well.

Do you know the advantages to the triple lens camera being square? Why would your solution using a ‘single strip camera module’ be more effective? (Aside from being an ‘aesthetic’ preference).

As others have noted, that is clearly a mockup of the camera grafted to an iPad Pro. If Apple decides to add a triple-lens camera to the iPad Pro, they will almost certainly use the same module as on the iPhone 11 Pro line. This will give them economies of scale on production, only one camera module to maintain stock of, and a common platform for software and hardware development and calibration.

For document scanning the back camera is great. It's fine for facetime/streaming as well. The camera might be overkill, but who knows wha people might do with it? It turns the ipp into a massive viewfinder.

The cynic in me says Apple figured out this will cost them an extra $20, but they can stick us with an extra $100 price increase for the privilege. I can see it being appealing to small percentage of users, I just hope we aren't all expected to supplement the cost.
