Huawei's phones may be cheap mas most of them are not junk and in due time that may or may not be a problem to Apple as a functioning computer business requires some market share.

Apple has always been US centric but they seem to be working towards being non existent outside the USA.
Samsung makes great phones too. They haven't hurt iPhone very much because Android doesn't really compete with iOS...they compete with other phones running Android. If I'm Samsung, I'm actually a lot more worried about Huawei.

Outside of Apple-only consumers, smart multi-platform consumers tend to not pay more than ~$99 for Amazon Fire HD10 2017 that is a better consumption device with YouTube VP9 hardware decode, ability to run gaming console and computer emulators, has expandable micro SD card storage, file manager, etc. than iPad. If they want a premium tablet with OLED display Samsung is the only choice so it makes sense Samsung and Amazon are at the top of the list. Otherwise, it makes more sense to buy a true productivity desktop replacement device like the Surface Pro, Samsung Galaxy Book 2 (Windows 10 on ARM) or even Google Slate.

Not surprising, iPad is pretty much the only tablet at this point. Slow sales growth or no sales growth doesn't really concern me. It's a platform they will continue to build on over time. iOS 13 could be a tipping point for a lot of people, but we'll see.

Oh No! The sky is falling, the sky is falling....

How about the chart that shows Apple is making more profit per quarter then all the listed brands on the list combined. Last I checked it is profits that matter and not units sold.

You didn't answer my question but to answer yours - it's a list of smartphone sales. Huawei sold more than Apple. End of story. Consumers don't care about investors and ASP. They care about what is in their wallets.

I'm assuming you are coming from the POV as an AAPL stock holder?
Yes, they did...who is disputing that? ASP itself isn't relevant to a consumer, but the price people are willing to pay for a product IS relevant.

Apple increased prices and people bought more iPhones. This shows Apple can increase prices and literally have a rise in unit sales. Revenue was up 20% y/y and iPhone unit sales were 218M in FY2018 vs 216M in FY2017. That means the X and all the price increases not only had 0 effect on unit sales, they actually still grew.

If Apple decreased iPhone prices, I have no doubt they'd sell more units...but that's not Apple's game and it shouldn't be. iPhone revenue was up 20% with zero drop in unit sales. That is called pricing power.

Yes, I own a lot of Apple.

that's naive

both are important metrics for various and differing reasons for different audiences.

Most people here in the US haven't tried out a Huawei phone because they don't have that choice, since the government doesn't like Huawei. Yet some Apple fanboys immediately jump to the conclusion that Huawei sells $100 crap phones. I guess they never checked what Huawei is selling right now. They need to get out of their bubbles, and maybe take a look at what other tech sites have to say about the latest Huawei flagships.

As long as an old Android version and lag aren’t a concern, sure, why not get the Fire tablets.

And the ASP of the Huawei phone was?

Again, who cares about shipping cheap junk.

Apple owns the smartphone and tablet markets from a profitablity perspective.
I suppose when you can't brag about quality or innovation, profits, which is the ability to butt f*ck the consumer becomes your only way.of somehow bragging Bout Apple. Yay, they bent me.over again and emptied my wallet...

Thanks for posting this. Saved me the effort. My husband owns a P20 Pro and the camera on that thing is incredible. The overall performance is excellent as is the build quality. The AI on the camera needs some tweaking to back off from overzealous processing in some situations. But overall it’s an excellent contender.

As is the Mate 9 Pro, which some forum members have tested and reported on in this forum. If you live in a country where iMessage is not as popular and Apple’s services aren’t of any special value, a Huawei flagship can be a better value.

What makers like Samsung and Huawei offer now that Apple seems reluctant to do is choices. Apple has Face ID and that’s it. The competition is pioneering the offering of ever improved Face ID solutions along with the extra option of in-display fingerprint scanning. No, these features are not perfected yet, but they’re improving with each new model.

If we look closely at what the competitors are doing, and take off the blinders that prejudice against Android has on some of us, we will see some enviable options.

That being said, Apple is not standing still and by making Apple Watch as good as it is, while wearable options on the Android side struggle, they’re making it hard to ignore iPhones.

It's not like there are any other decent tablets out there. The Microsoft Surface possibly but the pricing of it puts it more in the iPad Pro category which is out of budget for most buyers who are looking just to browse the web and social media.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the best tablet for those "who are looking just to browse the web and social media". It's affordable, has the best screen (OLED). It's thinner and lighter than the competing tablets.

I have a galaxy tab S, the original, a few years old now, it still runs like a dream, got an incredible screen at a proper ratio as well for movie watching, which I think the s2 fails on. Tv's and cinemas are wide screen, so why do we want 4:3 ratio tablets..?

Android tablets are pretty much dead. Apple have no competition in this area
The "dead" Android tablets still outsell the iPads. What does it make the iPad? Superdead?

I've got S2. Both formats have pros and cons. I use mine mostly for Internet browsing so 4:3 works for me.

Yes, for the time being Samsung is the one that should be really worried (in my opinion they should be really afraid).

They sell almost the same thing than Huawei, Xiaomi and others and unlike Apple they have been shown to have almost no market power.

They sell more phones than any company on the planet, so yes you are sooooooooo correct, they have no market power !! Jeez!!

Boy are stuck in old times. Tbh since marshmallow lag hasn't been an issue for android. iOS and Android are closer than ever these days.
Tbh Surface products and 2n1 are eating up tablets. The surface is awesome. We have SP5 I7 with keyboard n mouse we picked up for $1,200 new. Does everything a laptop n tablet can do in 1.

Samsung have been steadily declining along the years. It is not a deluge but they seem to be unable to have a significant relative retaining ability.

Once upon a time Nokia also sold more phones than any other company until they stopped selling more phones than any other company.

I hate to break it to you but Huawei makes some really nice, quality phones. I bought the Mate SE in what Apple calls Space Grey for $230. It's fast, it has a 5.93 inch FHD+ screen, built-in FM Radio, Dual Sim, Unlocked. It looks and feels like an iPhone 8+. They even give you a clear silicone gel case for free.

Unless people have a bias or preference towards a particular brand, there's no longer a need to overspend hundreds of dollars on a smartphone.

lol. Americans would rather defend a Chinese state owned company than their own.
They don't even know why Huawei is banned in the US.
Can't wait for China to crush the US in every other category. You deserve it :)

Where you get that from?

super cheap ones may sell well. For the most part tab aside they are pretty poor quality. For most people their iPads last them years as they see no reason to upgrade

Individual sales is all that matters which apple still crushes the market

Yeah, and those are the ones that don't sell enough units to even approach iPhone.

They might make nice phones...but they run Android. The bias is the software. You still don't understand that. I don't make up the numbers. People buy iPhones because they like them and that starts with software.

I'd normally prefer to support a local or NATO country manufactured device but both Apple and Huawei are Chinese made. Between the two Huawei offers better value with an edge in quality. That's why Huawei has surpassed Apple to become #2.

They don't have pricing power because their product has been commoditized...unlike iPhone.

It is what it is. That's business 101. People like iPhones and Apple has pricing power, period. The numbers prove it. More iPhones sold than the prior year with increased prices. 216M vs 218M phones, but 20% higher revenue. Looks good to me.

Yet they are still number one on the list.. go figure.. this steady decline must be slow...

I wonder how many people would buy iPhones or how many Apple would really sell if carriers didnt offer payment plans for them. I don't buy on payment plans, I bought my galaxy S9+ for $450 cash thru Att. If Att offers a bogo and you cant use it because you dont have DirecTV or 2 lines they will let you buy one 1/2 off for cash.
