don't kid yourself...It isn't just about the apple logo...Perhaps for some it is (lucky for them it actually is better) but there is an immediate visible difference in quality with a split second glance at an apple device vs the competition...The iphone 5 is out bench marking everything by huge amounts even out doing the ipad 3 in many areas...Not saying the other devices are bad, indeed they are nice devices, but the apple devices are the leaders in performance and build quality.

The new ipad should be another large advance in performance over the competition.

300$ for a 32 gb wifi 3rd generation ipad is ridiculous. What do you guys think gazelle does with these iPads? That's right, resell them for a lot more. I just sold my 3rd gen 32gb wifi on cragislist for 500$ cash. It's easy. Grab a friend and meet in a public place, examine the legitimacy of the bills and ur set. All I see gazelle doing is ripping people off. It's shameful in my opinion. It's your hard earned money, get as much back as you can. Gazelle just prays on people IMO. Rant over.

I am not sure what would be a fair price for a re-seller to offer, I know they have to leave a bit of a gap there as to avoid possible risk, as noted before there are reasons to always avoid re-sellers as they either cannot or do not want to offer you that much.

tech bubble is about to burst. You cant keep offering "twice as fast" products each year and expect people to care. These year to year minor spec bumps will eventually (EVENTUALLY) have people scratching their heads and buying less frequently.

Well that's pretty much what happened in the Notebook segment. What has doubled in speed in the past 4 years on a notebook? Now the race has shifted into mobile devices.

But we're definitely reaching a certain point of data speed saturation where our senses can't handle much faster (We can't observe more than Retina, can't consumer more than data at once than a Bluray DVD). So while it seems we're still doubling speeds on our mobile devices, once that's hit, there doesn't seem much farther to go. Maybe the personal technology rat race will finally, dare I say, be over?

what's the point? it's ludicrous. its insane to see how people became obsessed with these spec bumps and how easily they trade their money just for a minor change. the damn thing is just as good as it was 5 months ago. god sake... grow up
People are upgrading while the getting is good. TRMC13 (post #5) got $600 for his top tier iPad 3. This means if he bought when iPad 3 came out (7 months ago), he basically "rented" his for roughly $1 a day. Not bad. Now, he puts just $229 with the $600 and he's got an iPad that's twice as fast! Sounds like a great way to do it. Turn over the product when the time is right. You probably don't understand why people lease cars, either, do you? They only pay for the part of the car that they use.

Besides... the people that are to get into iPad 3.5 are the ones that own the iPad 1 or 2. It's a great time to ungrade or to gift buy.

BTW... Why so angry? You sound ever so envious. And by "ever so", I mean "a lot"!

WTF why would anyone sell to this website for such a crappy price? Might as well give it away if you're gonna get so little. Second hand stores in Hong Kong give a much better price than this site for iPads and nearly 3x as much as this site for second hand unlocked iPhones. You could buy a two way flight NY-HK, fly over with 2 second hand iPhones, sell them in a store, fly back and still end up with more money... Are there no second hand electronic stores in the USA?

Newsflash to all these posters calling people names for using resellers vs selling on their own. $200 or so doesn't break the budget for everybody. To these sellers, the hassle of dealing with buyers, chance of fraud, etc is more hassle than we need. Hard to get if $200 is a lot of money to you, and I understand that. But calling posters names because they make a different choice is pathetic :)

Name calling is going rather far, there are ton of other things people do that burn up a lot more money like buying new cars that one cannot afford. Two hundred dollars is a nice little amount of money and it really is no hassle to see it to a private buyer. Of course this is also coming from someone that has sold hundreds of items over the last fifteen years online etc..

If I was worth a good amount of money I doubt I would worry about it all that much.

Why are people selling their iPad 3s? The only difference between the iPad 3 and iPad 4 is that slightly faster A6X chip and the FaceTime HD camera. It should not even be called "new", it should just be a silent update like the Late 2011 MacBook Pros.
Most people are not going to sell their perfectly capable iPads and lose half the value for something that is pretty much the same.

What I am curious about is what type of update can or should the iPad have next year, for the most part most are just increased speed, better camera graphics etc.. anything really different happens takes a bit longer. Even next year for the iPhone 6, any thinner and it will be uncomfortable to hold and I imagine everything else will mostly be speck updates which is kind of the point.

I can see people just waiting longer between new models, I had my 3GS for three years, so glad to have the iPhone 4S now, a LOT faster and I love that screen.

People do expect a lot these days, of course Apple does tend to sit on some updates that should have been here years ago. Like the mini COULD have a better screen now they want to sit on it for a year, like the cameras etc..

This thread is making me think of something...

The only thing I regret about my iPad is cheaping out at the last second and grabbing the 16GB version. I figured 16 gig was more than enough, and I could use that extra $100 to get a keyboard and a goodly collection of apps.

Yeah. I was wrong. 16GB isn't nearly enough.

But now, with everyone selling off their iPads so cheap online, I could sell my 3 on Craigslist for about $450 or so, and get a 64GB for about a hundred bucks more.

SO SELL YOUR IPADS! THE 4 IS LIKE TWICE AS FAST, RIGHT? YOU DON'T WANT TO BE OUTDATED AND BEHIND THE TIMES DO YOU? GO TO GAZELLE OR GAZEBO OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED AND JUMP AT THE FIRST OFFER IT GIVES YOU LIKE RIGHT NOW!

It looks like folks are desperately wanting the increase in processor speed and graphics on the new ipad.

No, I'm pretty sure that just like having the newest Apple toy. They're cray cray. As is most people who are willing to use a device as an investment and then lose a significant amount of it's value when resold to justify upgrading. They should put it on their tax return (seriously), there is a place for devices with significant value used as investment.

I always do the annual upgrade thing but I don't get why so many 3rd Gen owners are quick to flip theirs at this point. The 4th gen seems like a minor bump to me. What's the attraction?

Yeah. I know what you mean; I also do the yearly upgrades. After reading the new updates, I was like "oh, that's it?" I'm not going through any sort of selling/purchasing hassle for something that won't be any use to me. I hardly use my iPad anymore, let alone for games or anything that requires a lot of processor power. All I really wanted was the retina screen. But, if an enticing body change were to happy - I may be singing a different tune.

The new New iPad with Retina Display is TWICE as fast as the old obsolete model, and has a Lightning Connector.

That is hardly "just a spec bump".

You've laid it out. So what else it other than "just a spec bump" ?

And yes, the 3 had to be made "obsolete" since they wouldn't be able sell the 4 or justify its costs. A noticeable difference between each models is needed to justify the prices. Can you imagine Apple selling an iPad 3 alongside iPad 4? Of course the 3 would go down in the lower price bracket. It'll be a steal, but a huge loss for Apple. It's cheaper to make the 2 than the 3. This is the first (or second) time that Apple has replaced an iOS device with another device in the same price range. More often than not, previous generations are "moved down" or is it because of hey the named it? Since it was named "the new iPad" they had to pull it? Hmm, maybe. You never know with Apple.

Lightning port. Blech!

I have always upgraded to the latest Ipad this time I am keeping my Ipad 3 LTE and waiting for the Ipad 5 next year, I am very happy with my current version and the upgrade is not that big of a difference to justify taking a loss on a 7 month old iPad that is working great.

This is crazy, the iPad3 is still a market leading device and there is no software that seems to run slow on it so this desperation to upgrade is ridiculous.

Even the iPad2 isn't obsolete as you put it, it still gets all the software updates and there isn't any iPad software that won't run on it that I know of. What you actually mean is the previous model that I don't want now because a new one is out. My god my friends may think less of me for not having the latest thing. I must have it at all cost the one I have is 7 months old and isn't the latest any more and and aaahhhhh!

i find this behavior very difficult to understand. I found no reason to upgrade my iPad2 to new iPad. And I will not upgrade it to iPad 4 generation either. There is still very little new in that. What I am waiting for is a lot lighter iPad, which will make iPad so much more pleasant to use.

Will they sell iPad 4 when Samsung Nexus 10 (with 2560 x 1600 resolution) will be announced next week? Or will they stay with inferior iPads?

There's no such thing as an inferior iOS device vs. Android. They can spec out Android devices from now until the end of time, but the overall user experience will still be inferior to iOS. Period.

My 2 Cents

Like many who bought the new iPad I was diappointed by Apple's announcement on Tuesday of a fourth generation iPad. However I upgraded from the original iPad and still love my iPad 3. Given that the iPad mini is just being released and the iPad 2 is still for sale, both being technically inferior to the iPad 3, I think it is safe to say that my iPad 3 will not be obsolete for a long time to come. I have chosen not take a 50% loss in order to have the latest and greatest iPad. Indeed my advice to friends looking for an iPad has been to snatch a third generation at a discount off the refurb site. Sorry Apple, no sale here.

There is no way I'm gonna take a $300 hit on a product I just bought six months ago. But I'm happy for those who waited for the 4th generation.

Agreed!

$250? Not bad, not bad at all.

In all seriousness, these products have had a short lifecycle in terms of being on the market, but really, why would you give away something that works perfectly fine for half of the price?

One of the great things about (most) Apple products is that they stand the test of time and pay for themselves.

I think $250 is a little low for something that was $500 and hasn't been out for a year.

Half the price for half a year old piece of equipment that's in excelent condition? It's like a $1.37 a day just for the right to own one.
And yet people spend three times that amount per day just for some Starbucks. I'd rather have an iPad. :)

SO SELL YOUR IPADS!
You do realize that the more people who sell them, the less yours is worth?
