The mini gets warm?

It does get warm from normal web browsing and if you set the brightness around 50% or above. It's not hot or uncomfortable by any means but I much rather prefer the cool back of my old ipad mini. I know its due to the retina screen, it kinda felt like when the ipad 3 came out it's thicker heavier and runs warmer than the ipad 2. Though not as bad as the ipad 3.

I know this sounds cynical but I currently own both the Air and rMini so I'm not slamming anything or anyone. I'm just curious what exactly can you do on a Retina iPad Mini that is so "amazing" that you couldn't do on the previous one? Despite the 2gen old processor and non-retina screen, the original iPad Mini was a very capable machine that deserved an upgrade but didn't necessarily "require" one.

I totally agree with you the original mini is very capable machine, especially for my everyday tasks. I'm not wowed by the new retina mini, which I was expecting to be because I have been waiting for the retina ever since I got my original mini. The screen is gorgeous to look at but everything else doesn't feel much like an upgrade. And to add to it, it's slightly heavier/thicker too (downgrade).

iPad rMini is amazing!!!

I'm very happy with mine. If I do a side-by-side comparison, I can tell the colors aren't quite as bright as my 5s or even my ipad 3 (which I gave to my husband). I just bumped up the brightness a tiny bit and that made it a lot better for me. I'm sure after using it for a few more days I won't notice the difference much at all.

Love the rMini.

What exactly can an iPad Air do that an iPad 1 can't? They both have screens, touch input and a CPU. I've never understood why people upgrade from a perfectly working iPad 1 to an iPad Air. I mean they're both tablets so going to an iPad Air isn't going to change your life. People should only be allowed to buy things that completely change their lives! I wish I could force people in to buying only what I personally value!

Siri?

Got my ipad mini retina today. Woot. Love it, coming from ipad 4.

Despite the massive performance improvements and a screen that is simply incredible, there is not much difference.

I understand that this is an irrational expectation, but I'm in the same boat as you in that the Retina Mini was the tablet I've been waiting a year and a half for so I was expecting to be wowed. My wife still has her original iPad Mini and side by side it looks better when reading text but I'm really not seeing how people are claiming it to be such a different experience. Even the OS seems to stutter in the same places on both the old and new Mini.

I also have the Air right now. I keep flip flopping on which I'll keep because they're both improved products. I just am trying to figure out which upgrade feels substantial enough to win my $500 so I'm being more critical than I probably should. :D

iPad Mini had Siri also.

I do have an iPad mini and also the iPad Air. I have been very impressed with the iPad Air and since then I have stopped using my mini. I am going to buy the iPad retina mini to check it out. I suspect the improved chip may make things much faster.

I can't really comment on the weight it put on but I'm seriously thinking you're exaggerating the thickness... The new mini is ONLY 0.3mm thicker which can't be seen by eyes. To make sense, it's basically 0.01inch thicker. It's as thick as as the point of a needle.

rMini is absolutely the best iPad out right now... Similar specs as the air just repackaged into a pocket rocket

Now that I've had it running for a few hours, the tint difference between nrMini and rMini is almost zero. So there's really no point of comparing. Except the rMini is far superior with its retina lol. I don't know what those people are complaining about

I understand the excitement over a new product (iPhone, iPad, first car, HDTV) because they really do alter your life. But I've never understood when people get that excited when a product gets a spec bump but doesn't actually offer something "new".

Man let folks be excited if they want to be, you don't need to understand!

Cynical you are, but who cares? What can it do that my previous iPad Mini couldn't? Allow me to read for extended period of time without killing my eyes because of the crappy resolution. That in and of itself is enough to warrant a buy.

What I don't understand is why people need to justify it, just do it and enjoy it. Folks that question it seem to have too much time on their hands.

I'm actually more wowed by the ipad air, really tempted to pick that up instead and return the retina mini

You have a lovely floor too :D

Please tell me there is something between the glass and the tile though as its giving me an OCD twitch. Saying that the floor is so clean and shiny it may be CLEANING the screens for all I know

Haha. I get that feeling when they do those unboxing videos. They put the iPad screen down on the desk and slide it around showing all the sides etc. Poor screen.

This. GPS chip is nice but not sure if it's a necessity.

Unfortunately, I've come to rely on the GPS feature in my iPads so it is a must-have, otherwise I would have picked one up locally, and not have to wait for the LTE from Apple.

Here's hoping my experience with the Mini, my first, will be as positive as yours.
