I know I want a touchID but the retina mini is fantastic and a welcomed much needed change. Had white mini and got space gray retina mini. I gotta say, having a mini with the specs of the air is amazing. It's my lil power rocket. This will def hold me off for next year. Everyone should get one jus saying. :D

I'm curious as to why so many people put their iPad face down like you did here. Wouldn't that scratch the screen?? I'd never put mine (if I had one) face down. I never do that with my iPhone and it's got a screen protector on it.

In any event I'm tempted to get the rMini but still unsure. Still deciding between that and iPad Air and iPad 4.

Mine lags when scrolling web pages and constantly runs out of RAM, as much as with the old mini which only had half as much RAM. I don't know if it's iOS or the hardware. I've come to expect a new iPhone to be totally free of lag (at least on day 1) and this iPad definitely fails to meet that standard. It's going back to the store...the screen isn't worth the $200 premium I'd pay over the old mini and the benchmarks are meaningless if the day-to-day experience is exactly the same as the old mini, screen aside.

it's ok man, i got screen protector. LOL

lag? all my apple devices don't have any lag.

Lag? What lag? I have used the heck out of mine and I have yet to experience ANY lag.

When I scroll on website in safari the text scrolls choppy not smooth, as if the graphics is not keeping up

interestingly, I just tested my iPad3. Does the same thing

The washed out colors are noticeable and worse if I compare it to my ipad3. The blues are dulled, in fact even the whites are less white.

I am still undecided on keeping my rMini vs getting Air. Need to go look at the iPad Air

Just set up my rMini and am enjoying it for the most part. I do notice slight hiccups (especially with the keyboard-- I notice a slight choppiness) and a lot of iPad apps are not yet optimized for iOS 7 (Amex, Chase and Mint still use the iOS 6 keyboard). Lastly, I feel like the touchscreen is a little less responsive compared to my HTC One. Other than that, I do enjoy the smaller size (coming from an iPad 3) and have a few weeks to decide if it was worth the $400. So far, so good :)

I got mine yesterday and it's terrific! I set it up and played a lot with it :D
Boy am I happy ! Plus it arrived much earlier than expected , the ETA was next friday .

Happy with mine...

Happy with my rMini (16GB black WiFi w/ black Smart Case). No screen retention after running the test. Beautiful display with no color oddities or anything...looks great to me.

Only difficulty is learning to type on it. I'm used to Messages and email on my smaller iPhone 4S. Just trying the different positions to determine the most comfortable way to type: holding in portrait, angled landscape on a flat surface, splitting the keyboard, etc.; it's cool to have all these options but I'll be switching between them for now.

I'm leaving the Smart Case on as it protects it and makes the back much less slippery for holding. That is impacting my learning to type, especially when holding the iPad instead of resting it on a surface.

Anything you folks do not like about this video? Let me know cause my jaw dropped!

Make sure you watch in HD. I doubt 99% of Joe/Jane owners of the rMini would complain.

I meant to thank you for that link last week. If anyone really wants to see their device shine, watch that video in HD. It's part of a larger BBC series, and the other videos will appear on the right. Wait until you have time to enjoy. ;)

I just got my rMini from Apple online. I still think the mini's size is the best size for any tablet on the market.

The screen though. Ughh. I had the previous mini and the lack of color is noticeable, reds seem especially washed out. It's the only color that i truly notice. There is no display retention after running the test but there is a noticeable yellow hue at the bottom of the screen.

For people who exchanged their ipad for this yellow tint issue did you get a better screen with no hassle?

so the lack of colour is really noticeable from first time?:p

Yep. When red looks like orange, something is off. I can deal with the color temperature but the yellow tint at the bottom of screen is annoying.

I am happy with my iPad Air.... I was thinking of returning it for a rMini but after all that problems I changed mind

Just wanted to say I also had this yellow tint on the bottom of the screen on both the rMini's I got. Returned them to Apple and bought them online instead this time hoping they'd come from a different batch than the ones that first came to all the stores. We'll find out very soon if they're any better. If not, returning again and getting the original Mini's off Craigslist maybe, don't feel like giving Apple my money this time if all 4 rMini's had such an annoying problem.

Greens were off as well. Maybe not off but just flat. For anyone else wondering what we're talking about when we say the colour is off, in the store compare side-by-side the iPad Air and rMini and look at the following icons: Music, App Store, iTunes, iMessage. Notice how the Air pops and the rMini looks flat? There you go.

Or bring a bright red object to the store, photograph it with each device, and then compare the displayed image. The icons have been pointed out before, but we shouldn't be too concerned with viewing icons. Besides, iOS 7 icons are a bit much anyway. :D

I agree with your main point: the colours aren't that big of a deal. When I was looking at the rMini first I noticed "hmmm, icons are a bit washed out/flat" then I opened up the Photos app and it had a flower folder so I checked it out and I just thought "wow, these pictures looks amazing." I definitely wouldn't let it stop me from buying one.

The yellow tint on bottom though? Horrible. Not very obvious. Not very bad. But definitely uneven colour temperature on the screen. Top 3/4 cool, bottom 1/4 warm. Annoying as a lot of the backgrounds are white so you notice it all the time once you've spotted it for the first time. Safari, Reminders, Notes, Calender... all white. iMessage, keyboard entry... so much white.

I love my rMini but the ram issue is upsetting. I'm also having issues where icons on the springboard will randomly be subdued.

Glad I'm not alone and not going crazy. It's embarrassing (or a sign of the times) that a Nexus 7 provides a smoother experience than an iPad. It's funny how the tables have turned - previously, you could count on Android devices to have higher benchmark scores and choppy scrolling. Now it's the opposite.
