I'm amazed at the spare time some people must have to troll forums of companies they don't like and spew hate about products they claim they will not buy.

If you cannot find a use for it, then do not purchase it.
We don't care.

Honestly, my experience with kids is that no way would they want to loose their laptop and have an iPad instead?

Why you ask?

Well, they are busy on Limewire of Pirate bay downloading music tracks for free (rather than spending their limited pocket money at iTunes)

Perhaps a few movies also as going to see that latest movies costs them.

Whilst this downloading is going on they are updating their facebook account and chatting to friends on hotmail etc.

Just think what they'd think of loosing all this ability and getting an iPad instead.

Yeah it may be cool to have, and show of to your mates that you have one, but no way would they choose one over a laptop.

A bit arrogant...

Kind of like someone saying:

"We estimate the world's population as 450 people because that's how many people visited our corner store this week."

Maybe there are 1 or 2 iPad owners who don't click on their ads...

You need a laptop to download pirated content? Don't you think it's enough to have a desktop at at home and iPad instead of laptop? I'm going to do so (not the downloading part) 27 iMac with i7 and iPad 2G.

ok great...

it's a monumental success. Let's move on and release the MBPs

Which means there are even more?

I'm amazed at the people who get offended by Apple criticism.

Look, mullman, this is a discussion forum to discuss topics at hand, whether its Apple praise or criticism. This is not a fanboi discussion forum. If you want Fanboi discussions then I suggest you get together with LTD and build a site for that purpose!

People don't have to click to register, every impression registers so if they have ads on major websites there is a good chance an iPad user sees the ad at some point in the day.

There are chitika ads on macrumors. ;). So you've all been counted.

Yes, but if 450 people visited your corner store, then it's safe to say that there are at least 450 people in the world.

Similarly, if the ad data is accurate (which is not a given, of course), then it places a lower bound on the number of iPads sold. The actual number could be higher, but not lower.

It's time for a little analogy here. I've been to a football game last summer. The game was not that important and I'm not that much of a fan, but close to my seat there was a group of young ladies cheering and supporting our team. Right behind me was a guy complaining form the beginning how bad our team was, that they got the wrong players on the field, and that the coach was an idiot.

As soon as it became clear our team was winning he became even more aggressive. While the whole stadium and especially the girls were cheering and celebrating, this guy was really close to lose his mind, complaining over every bad pass and even over the girls supporting the team.

Now, the girls behaviour was somewhat childish, I agree. But this guy definitely showed the behaviour of a psycho. – Exactly like … … … you know what I mean. ;)

Alright, I grant that they're being somewhat presumptuous in thinking *their* ads are being visited/seen so regularly, but at least it gives us some idea of what's going on.

What I find interesting is that the stat counter seems more like a timer. It's registering a new iPad like every second, there aren't any sudden spikes or stalls. But perhaps their systems are registering these fluctuations and the stat counter is simply displaying them at standard intervals.

Glad I decided to wait after hearing about all the wi-fi issues along.

500,000 beta testers imho.

wifi issues are limited, and mostly imagined. not inhibiting real use at all. you're in a fantasy land inside your own head.

Love mine, use it mainly for work--great for reading PDFs, my entire work library is already there. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

I wonder if there are many of us who see this as mainly a work related device?

iPad Sales Estimated to Have Already Surpassed 500,000

Criticism is great, Trolling? Not so much. Posting critiques that are often not much more than "Nice try Apple. This is as bad as the iPhone.," isn't encouraging discussion over the topic of the devices failures, I think. I'll grant that the rabid zealots can be just as tiring, but as another poster suggested, these folks are cheering for Apple because they're happy with their purchase.

The thread title doesn't overtly suggest that either should avoid posting here, but one might infer from the name of the website that posting "When is Apple going to wake up?" might slow things down a bit.

I agree, and its a quick software update to solve it.

I'm really glad I bought mine, it serves my purposes NOW. When tomorrow rolls around with an updated iPad, I'll sell mine and upgrade. It's that simple.

thats why it is going to be one unit per home kinda sales, not like iPhone or iPod touch sales numbers...

I don't think so. Maybe to some extent, but I think it will the the kind of device that you want to personalize. The price is cheaper than a laptop so that's a lot more doable for people.(I think it will cannibalize desktop and laptop sales. Laptops in particular. My wife is already saying 'do we really need to get a desktop now?'). I got mine and my wife loved it. She now wants her own iPad. My sister and her finance bought one as well and they're waiting to buy a 3G model.

Also I have no wifi issues and I have an apple router. I have used it on non apple routers with no problem as well.

I absolutely love mine! I love the web experience. Email on it is great. iBooks is cool, I've downloaded a lot of free books from the Gutenburg project. Plants vs. Zombies looks beautiful on it and is really fun. I like the weight of it. I like that it's really sturdy and not just cheap flimsy plastic. I wish the syncing was a little better. But that's something that can be addressed in an update. I have a ton of iPhone apps and it's a pain to go through and uncheck every one that I don't want to sync. I initially wanted to wait for an update on them, but the current model has everything I want and need.

I see. Non-Apple bashing here, fine and dandy. Looking at a story objectively (you know, the pros AND cons) is trolling.

Says the guy who just recently joined MacRumors exclusively to post negative diatribes. Seems you forgot the "pros" part of your "pros AND cons" argument.

Like the Mac web site that is now claiming that increasing the screen brightness changes Wifi performance.

Can you say 'placebo effect'?

I'm not saying that there are no wifi issues. Of course there are. But ANY new wifi device has some percentage that have problems and the number doesn't appear to be any greater for the iPad than any other device. A little bit of fiddling usually solves it.

Aside from the way you're using it, which it's perfect for, there are apps currently and on the way that are aimed at particular careers and professions. The medical community is already looking into it as a serious on-site tool, for example. There are many examples all over the web of various professions exploring ways to integrate this device into their workflow.

Anti-iPad crowd is great for lulz!

Prior to launch: "Apple will sell none of these things, biggest flop ever."

Praise from tech reviewers prior to release: "Well of course they'll give them a good review. Who wants to make jobs angry?"

Sellout of initial launch units, no more preorders: " Pft probably just Apple trying to generate hype".

Initial sales numbers are released (of only wifi ipad mind you): "Yawn whatever. That was only mac fanbois and zelots. Lets see how the numbers stack up over time" (secretly::mad:)

Reports of issues on iPad (analogous to a peice of meat thrown to hungry wolves/bears/something dangerous): look see we told you this thing sux!

And then what really blows my mind is that in the same breath these same people say: "Thanks for testing it for me so I can have a better rev 2 iPad" which is apparently the 2nd revision of the worst device in history.

Thanks guys ya'll are awesome.

I know, seriously. It's almost like Ballmer and employees at Microsoft are spending their workday posting on here instead of making a good product themselves. It would explain the irrational hate for the device.

Wouldn't it be interesting to be able to see the source IP address/domain for each poster here on MacRumors? Although there are plenty of naive ones here who refuse to believe that anyone would anonymously post to a competitor's online forum just to bag on that competitor's products...

The picture in the article states "524,262 Estimated Number of iPods Sold" not "at least 524,262 iPods sold". I agree that you can determine the minimum number this way (if their numbers actually mean anything), but trying to estimate the total number of iPad sales using numbers of who clicked on ads is a weak theory.

I would also question the data from the fact that this is an advertising company making themselves look attractive to potential customers. Their motivation for doing this is more aimed at telling the world that iPad users view their ads so they would be the best choice for companies trying to get their message to iPad users.

If you follow through to their website and go to the "See the full story and how we calculate these numbers at the Chitika Research page", their way of gathering this information seems suspect. The discussion about not being able to use cookies and counting "unique IP addresses" does not really make sense considering all the iPads are operating behind a WiFi router. They sum it up with "There’s a few issues with this method, admittedly" which I would guess is the only true statement on their site.
