What i don´t understand. If peolpe are complaining about the IPad then maybe it is in case they don´t like it. And a lot of people here if they love it don´t understand this. Why???
Let them all have their opinion!!! And if you don´t like when people are laughing about "fanboys", let them have their right to rate some articles negative. It is a free forum!!!
There is a saying and I try to translate it:
If 99 people jump of the bridge you don´t have to be number 100.....

Also need to subtract the cost of manufacture. iSuppli likes to pretend if you buy a pile of parts they magically assemble themselves into fully functioning devices.

The iSuppli numbers pay for a box full of parts in some place in China. If you decided to sell the iPuzzle (box full of parts, assemble them yourself to make your own iPad), how much would it cost you to just get that box of parts into a shop in the USA and sell it, without making any profit?

Of course all the shopping centres in the USA are so keen to have Apple Stores, they don't charge Apple rent, don't charge for electricity etc., and the store employees work for free because it is such a great place to work.

You know who AAPL should market the ipad to? Star Trek fans.

I was watching a DS9 episode and I noticed this tablet they use as a prop on that show. I thought of the ipad immediately.

Apple should team up with Paramount to release special edition of the ipad. They could develop a different "skin" for the OS so that the icons and screen look like Star Trek. I wouldn't necessarily buy it myself but I'm sure it would be a hit with the trekkie crowd. I guess they would have to study how many additional sales they would get out of that crowd and look at the cost of making a special addition ipad.

or someone can make an App that will provide the look?

Yawn

Yeah like whatever...you know you want one ;)

I think what kills it for too many, are the iPhone owners.

We're sitting here going, ok, so you basically made a copy of my phone with a huge screen and no camera and I can't use it to make calls and text...so...it's not even as good as an iPhone relatively speaking...it's just a big iPod correct?

Oh, but I can plug a keyboard into it now? Yea. That's enough to slam $500 at Apple.

Where the eff is flash? (and for all of you going "Who cares?" I don't think you currently own an iDevice then...because yes. Flash matters...it kind of gets old being told "Oh sorry, you can't browse THIS page because...we use Flash. Sorry. Kkk. Bye now") So you see the iPad coming out and Steve Jobs is showing it off and you're all excited and he's on NYTimes and on the iPad, (the latest iDevice "update"), and right there on his presentation...you see it...that dreaded little "A flash embed is right here...but you can't see it because you DON'T have flash" and bam! That's the end for you. If I want an awesome web browser that can't process flash...yeeeea...I've got an iPhone...I'm fine, I'll pass thanks. I'll wait for the model that actually does something my phone DOESN'T ALREADY DO.

So all of you thinking we're WAITING for upgrades, yea, we're waiting for upgrades on a device we already have better specs on"

We're seeing that our extensively well thought out app collection is NULL for the iPad and we have to repurchase many to get "full iPad versions" because the ones we have will play on it...in the same size we already see it...ON OUR iPhone.

Oh yea, and you KNOW all of us iPhone owners were on pins and needles. Oh boy, FINALLY a full screen to carry over our need for touch! Here we go. (Watching presentation and Steve's build up) Ohboyohboyohboyohboy. (Presented) ...um? :What?: So...an iDevice...that's my phone resized...

So wait...(watching more) and...so you mean...no camera though? So...LESS than my device...(shows net surfing...dreaded no flash)...and they didn't address the flash thing?....(noticing lack of multitasking) and I still can't listen to Pandora and play with my photo collection...that I have to import from my external full size computer no less....right right. Gotcha.

And you resolve to yourself...yyyyeaaa thinkin I'll pass from downgrading my iPhone to an iPod with a huge screen and paying $500 dollars for it thanks.

And then shall we address the iPhone evolution? Because there were several steps before it was the 3Gs it is now...and soon rumor has it, a 4g is set to launch...all within 3 years...that means LESS than a YEAR per EACH upgrade people. So iPad is out...but guess what, I already have a BETTER one...it's called the iPhone...look it up folks. Oh and yes, 3g? Stiiillllll ATT. So...

Gimme 2 years to sit on thanks.

I really didn't want to be sucked into the iPad frenzy  and because of my persistence i have come to realize that the Pad does every thing your iPod touch/iPhone would do on a larger screen but faster. It also comes with a heavy price tag to me the iPad is aimed at the masses, the non-technologically savvy people who just uses the computer for instant messaging, social networking, e-mail, reading e-books and watching movies and videos on the internet. now really if u look at it the laptop or your pocket emptying 15" MacBook pro can do everything that it can do but the iPad makes it more interactive and fun to use, that's the key work FUN. ;)

The point is Apple is trying to get rid of the low end computer market by making a low end device that does all and more that the average teenager, kid, young adults do. So I've came to the conclusion of you have a 13" or even a 15" laptop you don't need this device. People with desktops would would like to be on the go (the netbook market) and the regular people who dont know how to do anything than surf the net, play flash games(app store substitute), instant message and check e-mail and read news, would die for a product like this

This product isn't for the techy people, it only look very cool and is fun to use, but if u feel like it you can just go for it if u have the extra bucks to spend.
But behind everything is a carefully thought out marketing plan--:apple:

It's getting as dull as the iPhone. When are we going to get news from Apple (rumours from MR) on the Mac Pro?

Apple just gonna sneak it unto their webpage or suprise us at the next WWDC in june ;)

awaiting iPad delivery

I guess some of those are sent to all corners of the globe :D

My FedEx Tracking status says : On FedEx vehicle for delivery

And that's in Belgium :):):)

Can't wait!

This just makes me sad :(
Get ready for more outdated and overpriced albeit shiny products!

Why would somebody do that? Seriously! Its beyond mentally retarded.

Re: Smashing the iPad with a bat: Kids like to be shocking. Some will act it out. The more valued and admired the product the better - higher shock value. They just don't know that it's not that shocking and simply looks stupid.

Speak for your own country!

I haven't seen anybody stupid enough to do that in New Zealand, and I grew up in South Auckland.

Lil' kids showing off. Same thing was done to 'stress test' the iPhone when it first came out...dropping, scratching the screen. Dumb stuff.

But then again I don't think the tear-downs are that much better. Sure, they justify it with the argument that it's for repair knowledge. But it still makes me feel sad that there's such wanton destruction of expensive gear by those who have more money than sense.

I hate when people talk about what it can do later... what else do people buy in HOPES that it gets better in the future?
Buying anything now in the hope that it'll do what you want in the future (when it's fixed) is a route to delusion and extra expense (when the upgrade costs, or the missing features are withheld for the new version.)

Having been a paying beta tester in the past, I tend to wait now until whatever it is does whatever it is that I want it to do.

Actually, it's fairly cheap advertising. $500 for an iPad, a few hours labor and look at all the free press they've gotten.

Or there's the blender manufacturer who wants to show how tough their blenders are for industrial applications:
http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/04/05/will-it-blend-ipad-addition/

I don't like seeing a brand new item being shredded, but it's a pretty smart business move-and probably pays off many times over.

Apple will have a lot harder time to selling these outside the US than in California...

Then maybe you can explain this:
http://www.thinq.co.uk/news/2010/4/7/ebay-uk-sees-healthy-trade-in-apple-ipads/

One iPad sold for $5,000 (hand delivered anywhere in the world).
Quite a few of them were over $1200 with shipping.

From the perspective of someone who interacts with people who have no idea what an operating system is or who care about something called "flash":

I went to the Apple Store today to look at the iPad. I didn't think much of it until I started playing with it. Very intuitive and fun and simple. Those things don't matter to geeks, but they matter to the other 98% of the population who buy things.

My girlfriend wants to toss her laptop to get one because she "only goes on the internet and checks e-mails" and obviously she'd like something fun and sleek and simple to do that with. And then, this is telling, her two year old son started playing with the thing. He has a 3 second attention span and was mesmerized - that's fun and simple.

Likewise, I met a Droid phone this past weekend. I looked at it for 2 minutes and handed it back. Clumsy, ugly, and didn't do anything I use my iPhone for. Tout specs all you want, but it bored me and others (non-geeks) within seconds.

Apple has figured out how to give casual tech users what they want. It will upset the geeks who are obsessed with specs, but catering to them won't make anybody money.

That's exactly what iPad and iPhone are about. It's not about specs and never will be for the average user.

I jumped and bought an ipad. Dumb me soon found out you cant print with the thing like I can with my imac on network printer. Note, to APPLE, get out an update so we can print with the thing! I would have never bought it had I known this, guess my fault for expecting that you could print what you read if you want too. I guess I expected too much for it to print! Duh! I expect Apple to put out a fix and not have to buy some app or work around to get it to print. This is so stupid of Apple. I am trying to convert to Apple, but this is the most lame thing I have seen them do! Stupid! I just have a $600 toy for now.

Apple's not the one who bought a device without learning something about it. Nor is Apple the one who's complaining that the iPad won't print when it clearly will.

USA Today Boasts Over 115,000 iPad App Downloads (AAPL, GCI)

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic...sts-over-115000-ipad-app-downloads-2010-4.DTL

"Earlier we remarked how no companies were bragging about how many iPad app downloads they've had so far because the numbers were so small. With only a few hundred thousand iPads out there, only a handful of developers are lucky to have app downloads even in the tens of thousands so far.

But USA Today has been one of the winners, and it just tweeted at us to announce that it has had more than 115,000 copies of its app downloaded so far, making it the top news app.

..."

What percentage of ipad owners are interested in USA today? If it's 25%, then that is 460k ipads sold. Somehow I think 25% is rather high for USA Today.

The way to determine the number sold (until Apple releases updated information) is to look at various different ways of estimating and then seeing if they all point in the same direction. Your method for USA Today downloads suggests half a million. The ad method covered in this article suggests half a million plus. Apple sold 300,000 on the first day. That suggests that half a million in the first 5 days is reasonable.

It all points in the same direction - Apple has undoubtedly sold over half a million units already.

It is going to be a fast trek to first 1M units.

Absolutely no later than the first day of 3G launch. Preliminary surveys indicated that just about as many people expected to order the 3G as the WiFi model, so I'd expect at least 300 K 3Gs on the first day (probably more as the momentum builds and there has been more time for preorders). Based on the rate for the current model, it looks like 2 million by the end of April (assuming the 3G launches by then) is quite plausible.

They are just using the ad data to figure out how many ipads are in use. The success is being measured by the nu beer of iPads sold.

nu beer? How do they package the beer with the iPads-is it bottles or cans? Do I get to choose what type of beer? I hope it's a decent CA microbrew.

But the Teardowns also satisfy curiosity and add to knowledge.

Yeah, and besides, the 700,000ish ipads sold already will be obsolete tomorrow when apple announce the new ipad with a front facing camera and enough ram to multitask with iphone OS 4.

600,000

Ok, this is getting outta hand now.

The counter is more like a timer. It's seeing a new iPad like every second.
