Are they counting the ipad that 19 year old high school student bought and smashed?

I wonder if he'll save up over the summer and we'll read about a 20 year old high school student smashing an iphone next fall?

If they are counting the number of iPads using UserAgent strings and IP addresses, the number is inaccurate. The Safari in iPad simulator has the same UserAgent string as that of the real one.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I'm an initial doubter that sure as hell wants one now. :p
I'm hearing too much good stuff to pass it up.... I will be getting one.

earnings

Given that number, it would mean that Apple has earned $125,293,628 in revenues from the iPad. (And thats assuming every iPad sold was of the $499 flavor)

If we assume 2/5 of the iPads sold were 32GB iPads, Apple has made almost $146,000,000

If that's true, I doubt there are enough people with the sdk to make much of a difference. They might have accounted for this as well.

Glad I decided to wait after hearing about all the wi-fi issues along.

500,000 beta testers imho.

FYI, not everyone is having wifi problems - I've been on three different networks and haven't yet lost the signal. But, my 2009 imac keyboard USB port won't charge it. I never charge off of the computer anyway as it's a waste of power to have it on and running when not in use. The 10W charger works just fine.

I will be buying 3 second generation instead of one MacBook Pro.

It's really scary that a single company can track every single iPad to the level of accuracy that they even assume that all iPads they don't see don't go online at all.

I was skeptical at first but right when I set my hands on it I knew that it'd be a winner. It really is a great experience.

thats a huge number. i dont know.

300,000 sold included wifi models shipped into the channel and the pre-orders from the previous 2 weeks (yes i know 3G not included).

to then say..500,000 have been activated as of today...that seems like a stretch from Saturday...no?

I too am a very happy iPad early adoptee, and I have not touched my iMac for anything else but to edit my photographs(I am a photographer). Used the photo.app for a potential-client meeting to show off my photofolio. Needless to say I got the "wow" to both my iPad and my photos. :)

I estimate sales to be 854,679!

I base this on first-hand observations at my local Apple Store and online research. And my lucky number generator.

I think what kills it for too many, are the iPhone owners.

We're sitting here going, ok, so you basically made a copy of my phone with a huge screen and no camera and I can't use it to make calls and text...so...it's not even as good as an iPhone relatively speaking...it's just a big iPod correct?

Oh, but I can plug a keyboard into it now? Yea. That's enough to slam $500 at Apple.

Where the eff is flash? (and for all of you going "Who cares?" I don't think you currently own an iDevice then...because yes. Flash matters...it kind of gets old being told "Oh sorry, you can't browse THIS page because...we use Flash. Sorry. Kkk. Bye now") So you see the iPad coming out and Steve Jobs is showing it off and you're all excited and he's on NYTimes and on the iPad, (the latest iDevice "update"), and right there on his presentation...you see it...that dreaded little "A flash embed is right here...but you can't see it because you DON'T have flash" and bam! That's the end for you. If I want an awesome web browser that can't process flash...yeeeea...I've got an iPhone...I'm fine, I'll pass thanks. I'll wait for the model that actually does something my phone DOESN'T ALREADY DO.

So all of you thinking we're WAITING for upgrades, yea, we're waiting for upgrades on a device we already have better specs on"

We're seeing that our extensively well thought out app collection is NULL for the iPad and we have to repurchase many to get "full iPad versions" because the ones we have will play on it...in the same size we already see it...ON OUR iPhone.

Oh yea, and you KNOW all of us iPhone owners were on pins and needles. Oh boy, FINALLY a full screen to carry over our need for touch! Here we go. (Watching presentation and Steve's build up) Ohboyohboyohboyohboy. (Presented) ...um? :What?: So...an iDevice...that's my phone resized...

So wait...(watching more) and...so you mean...no camera though? So...LESS than my device...(shows net surfing...dreaded no flash)...and they didn't address the flash thing?....(noticing lack of multitasking) and I still can't listen to Pandora and play with my photo collection...that I have to import from my external full size computer no less....right right. Gotcha.

And you resolve to yourself...yyyyeaaa thinkin I'll pass from downgrading my iPhone to an iPod with a huge screen and paying $500 dollars for it thanks.

And then shall we address the iPhone evolution? Because there were several steps before it was the 3Gs it is now...and soon rumor has it, a 4g is set to launch...all within 3 years...that means LESS than a YEAR per EACH upgrade people. So iPad is out...but guess what, I already have a BETTER one...it's called the iPhone...look it up folks. Oh and yes, 3g? Stiiillllll ATT. So...

Gimme 2 years to sit on thanks.

I think both my daughter and wife will really appreciate it. I cant wait to see what kind of creative stuff my 5 year old daughter will be able to create on it.

Wi-Fi, smi-fi. Three of the products I've had over the years I have read of "Wi-Fi" complaints but I never had any problem. They always worked fine for me. So a few people are getting a little less signal strength and distance than they wanted. It is an amazing device. At such a low price, I would Alpha test! It's a deal and a steal.

You'll always find something to complain about. It's your unhappyness setpoint. You could win the lottery and whine. Look on the bright side, at least you didn't have to "Beta-test" it. Wait for the Rev. 2.0 and don't take up available units.

LOL, I suppose it doesn't occur to this company, or they don't want to admit, that people may be visiting sites where their ads are not present. D'oh.

So far, Wifi only, average price is $599 - times that by 524,262 = $314,032,938. Average cost, according to iSuppli, would be $298 - times that by units sold and you get $156,230,076.

So; if these people are correct, Apple pulled in $157,802,862.
Rough estimate.

Another Guy Who LOVES This Thing

Gotta say I am completely in love with this thing. I've been ignoring my iMac and MacBook since Saturday, only using the Mac last night to catch up on "Fringe." Except for Hulu, which I can catch on the MacBook or MacMini running my entertainment center, the iPad does EVERYTHING I can ask it to do in terms of entertainment or web surfing. I have had ZERO wi-fi issues and, and ran it non-stop today at work for a battery test. Five hours, three of them running HD video, over an hour of iPod music, the balance working on the Pages App -- Battery was at 75% charge! Can't beat that!

I saw and used one for the first time today. Surprised at how heavy it was. It's not very comfortable to hold in one hand and type with another. It's a big iPod touch. I have a feeling that after the novelty wears off there's going to be a lot of unused iPads sitting around in people's homes.
