Hilarious to see people tripping all over themselves about why these numbers can't be possible. This many people can't possibly be buying the iPad.
Glad I decided to wait after hearing about all the wi-fi issues along.
500,000 beta testers imho.
LMAO... Describe "typical."
I can think of 2 products that apple produces that has INITIAL "hype fever"
Iphone and Ipad...
Apple is the best advertising company in the world... I admire them for that... but not for their crippled Iphone & Ipad.

How is this something to look forward to?This isn't "early days" anymore. The time for amateur tinkering under the hood is drawing to a close.
But, my 2009 imac keyboard USB port won't charge it. I never charge off of the computer anyway as it's a waste of power to have it on and running when not in use. The 10W charger works just fine.
How is this something to look forward to?
I'm rather concerned about the lack of inspiration and motivation from these devices. Not like you can't buy components and start to make stuff if you so desire. Of course, it's much harder to compete with the behemoths that now exist in the market, but then again the only reason they exist is that they're making stuff people want.
I too am a very happy iPad early adoptee, and I have not touched my iMac for anything else but to edit my photographs(I am a photographer). Used the photo.app for a potential-client meeting to show off my photofolio. Needless to say I got the "wow" to both my iPad and my photos.![]()
*LTD* is a prime example. I'm done with MR, it makes me go insane.

What about the rest of us? Are we just not enthusiastic enough? Do appliances inspire more than consumption?Tech enthusiasts can move on to other projects. You people started the computer revolution, right? So start another one. Be as creative and motivated as you think you are.
I saw and used one for the first time today. Surprised at how heavy it was. It's not very comfortable to hold in one hand and type with another. It's a big iPod touch. I have a feeling that after the novelty wears off there's going to be a lot of unused iPads sitting around in people's homes.
You people are so delusional.. iPad will replace the computer market, desktop will be left in oblivion in less than a decade..
I can't imagine what you look like in real life and how you live. Don't think I want to know.
I'm sometimes ashamed to own a Mac because of the likes of you. It makes me feel dirty knowing the majority of people buying the same things I buy are so.... out of it

Sounds like bad news for OS X as well. You mean hobbyists not really destined for billionaire-hood? (not that I'm saying you won't get there)
You'll still have Windows boxes to maintain, if Microsoft is still around by that time.
Seriously, though, you can still get creative with tech. You'll just void your warranty and be denied service. But someone like you is expected to fix his own tech problems anyway, right?
Sounds like bad news for OS X as well.
I enjoy technology but I still haven't been able to shoe horn these devices into my life.
This direction is profitable but sadly it doesn't give me much interest.Still early for that.
As for OS X, I think you're right. Things in Apple-land will begin to look more like the "iOS", but keep in mind that said OS will also become more powerful and capable as time goes on. Power overhead and system requirements might actually drop with time. The iPad seems to be doing quite well with only 256mb of RAM. Talk about optimized. Imagine "serious" computing requiring about half the average hardware specs we see today. That's a possibility.
We're not quite there yet, but it's exciting to see Apple heading in this totally new direction and doing what appears to be a pretty good job of it.
So far, Wifi only, average cost is $599 - times that by 524,262 = $314,032,938. Average cost, according to iSuppli, would be $298 - times that by units sold and you get $156,230,076.
So; if these people are correct, Apple pulled in $157,802,862.
Rough estimate.
This direction is profitable but sadly it doesn't give me much interest.
