Hilarious to see people tripping all over themselves about why these numbers can't be possible. This many people can't possibly be buying the iPad.

Glad I decided to wait after hearing about all the wi-fi issues along.

500,000 beta testers imho.

It's not like every single one is messed up. Hence the large amount of typo filled posts praising my iPad due to the clumsy keyboard. Mine is just fine so far.

LMAO... Describe "typical."

I can think of 2 products that apple produces that has INITIAL "hype fever"

Iphone and Ipad...

Apple is the best advertising company in the world... I admire them for that... but not for their crippled Iphone & Ipad.

dude, the original imac had plenty hype fever, osx had plenty hype fever, the ipod had plenty hype fever, itunes had plenty hype fever. apple has hit home runs way more than 2 times!!

They're afraid that tech has finally progressed to where *everyone* can be equally competent with it. The Average Joe enabled and empowered to this degree by tech (thus not needing anyone to explain things) is a threat to the general Windows-geek-IT establishment.

This isn't "early days" anymore. The time for amateur tinkering under the hood is drawing to a close. It's time for personal computing to grow up and be made useful for everyone. Apple's torn down the walls and let everybody in to the private golf course.

But, my 2009 imac keyboard USB port won't charge it. I never charge off of the computer anyway as it's a waste of power to have it on and running when not in use. The 10W charger works just fine.

i'm pretty sure nothing charges off the usb on the keyboard. they aren't powered as far as i know. i have and imac and can't even import photos via keyboard from flashdrive.

How is this something to look forward to?

Not like you can't buy components and start to make stuff if you so desire. Of course, it's much harder to compete with the behemoths that now exist in the market, but then again the only reason they exist is that they're making stuff people want.

I'm rather concerned about the lack of inspiration and motivation from these devices.

You people are so delusional.. iPad will replace the computer market, desktop will be left in oblivion in less than a decade..

I can't imagine what you look like in real life and how you live. Don't think I want to know.

I'm sometimes ashamed to own a Mac because of the likes of you. It makes me feel dirty knowing the majority of people buying the same things I buy are so.... out of it

*LTD* is a prime example. I'm done with MR, it makes me go insane.

I too am a very happy iPad early adoptee, and I have not touched my iMac for anything else but to edit my photographs(I am a photographer). Used the photo.app for a potential-client meeting to show off my photofolio. Needless to say I got the "wow" to both my iPad and my photos. :)

since your a photographer i gotta ask, does the iPad support viewing of RAWs/NEFs or TIFFs?

Not a huge issue, although being a RAW shooter, it would be very nice to upload unedited photos for viewing, without having to convert to JPEG.

Just add him to your ignore list, its what I do. It can actually be entertaining to see his posts hidden, guess what he's saying, then clicking to see how right you are. Its like *LTD* Bingo.

I have a feeling the sales could be that high. I went into my local Best buy again today where I bought mine and they are still selling away. My store received 110 Ipads. The hype is definitely there. People know what it is and want to try it out. I took mine to college with me and everyone who saw me using it had to stop and ask about it and try it out.

If you go around and ask people the name of the tablet Apple is making I guarantee most will know. There is no windows touch device on the market that could gain attention like this device has gained.

We can move on to bigger and better things.

People won't need to be "computer literate" anymore. Everyday consumer tech will consist of great appliances that everyone will be able to use, simply and quickly.

Tech enthusiasts can move on to other projects. You people started the computer revolution, right? So start another one. Be as creative and motivated as you think you are.

What about the rest of us? Are we just not enthusiastic enough? Do appliances inspire more than consumption?

I don't share your optimism given my experiences.

I saw and used one for the first time today. Surprised at how heavy it was. It's not very comfortable to hold in one hand and type with another. It's a big iPod touch. I have a feeling that after the novelty wears off there's going to be a lot of unused iPads sitting around in people's homes.

maybe you should hit the gym dude!! 1.5 lbs thats like a 20oz soda. if you want to read or watch movies or do most of the other things you do on a 3.5 inch screen more power to you! i have an iphone but i really only use it for phone, text, games, and email. only time i'd actually surf the web or read something is if a computer isn't near buy. with the ipad, i save nearly 6lbs of weight over my 17" powerbook and gain 4 times the battery life. also, it is MUCH easier to to the things i want to do on it than it is a laptop or my iphone. reading, better on it, drawing, better on it, i can even type faster on it. i don't care about flash, soon flash will be dead and apple is the one killling it. wait till verizon carries all the mac toys. sites using flash will be losing hit by the boatload. i also don't care too much about "multitasking" push is good for most things just let itunes play in the background and i'd be fine. developers are just starting to see what they can do, and when sales are this good, they will want to port their apps. so the ipad revolution is really just starting. heck the iphone revolution is just starting. it's gonna blow up when on other wireless carries. i bet google really hopes apple stays exclusive to att. i have friends on verizon using 2 year old phones waiting for an iphone!!

Just make this your homepage:

;)

Feel better?

You mean hobbyists not really destined for billionaire-hood? (not that I'm saying you won't get there)

You'll still have Windows boxes to maintain, if Microsoft is still around by that time. ;)

Seriously, though, you can still get creative with tech. You'll just void your warranty and be denied service. But someone like you is expected to fix his own tech problems anyway, right?

Sounds like bad news for OS X as well.

I enjoy technology but I still haven't been able to shoe horn these devices into my life.

Still early for that. I wouldn't worry about trying to make them fit into your life quite yet. When the time comes, however, you might be sufficiently comfortable to *want* to integrate them.

As for OS X, I think you're right. Things in Apple-land will begin to look more like the "iOS" and the hardware it will successively run on, but keep in mind that said OS will also become more powerful and capable as time goes on. Power overhead and system requirements might actually drop with time. The iPad seems to be doing quite well with only 256mb of RAM. Talk about optimized. Imagine "serious" computing requiring about half the average hardware specs we see today. That's a possibility.

We're not quite there yet, but it's exciting to see Apple heading in this totally new direction and doing what appears to be a pretty good job of it.

This direction is profitable but sadly it doesn't give me much interest.

Judging by how many people tried hard to make iPad look like a worthless piece of tech. I am sure  soon will brag about the numbers.

So far, Wifi only, average cost is $599 - times that by 524,262 = $314,032,938. Average cost, according to iSuppli, would be $298 - times that by units sold and you get $156,230,076.

So; if these people are correct, Apple pulled in $157,802,862.
Rough estimate.

Because hardware engineering, product design, labor, shipping, tooling, support, sales, distribution, are all free.

I'm determined to put your mind at ease. ;)

I've tried to before and I think we got somewhere.

I know you're waiting for new Mac Pros. They'll be here, rest assured.
