You are right!
Because everyone is YOU!
You are absolute!
Who dares to defy your mighty insights?

WHO?

OFF with his/her head!

.... you didn't answer my question.

WHOOOOOOOOOO??!??

Those 500,000+ were probably all purchased by Ballmer and MS research people who want to design the MS version which will be far better.

Their logic defies me really. If they don't like Apple, why be here in the first place?

I'm convinced it's a mental illness.

You can understand people liking a product and wanting to talk about a product they like - maybe even get others to try the same product.

I can't think of any rational person where a normal person would spend countless hours publicly posting message after message about how they hate a product that they've never used, never intend to use, and are proud of the fact that they never plan to even try. There's just no rational explanation for behavior like that.

I'm willing to consider alternatives, though. There are a few other possible theories, though.

1. Steve Jobs stole their girlfriend.
2. Mommy bought them a Zune and all their friends are making fun of them.
3. They can't get a real job and have to settle for bargain basement hardware instead of buying quality products
4. They just spent their year's computing budget on a Dell Inspiron and are jealous of anyone who can afford something better.

Glad I decided to wait after hearing about all the wi-fi issues along.

500,000 beta testers imho.

This is one piece of technology that I will happily be a beta tester on.

The second is my iMac i7 27"

Normally I am not an early adopter; on the aforementioned I am very happy I got in the game early.

I saw and used one for the first time today. Surprised at how heavy it was. It's not very comfortable to hold in one hand and type with another. It's a big iPod touch. I have a feeling that after the novelty wears off there's going to be a lot of unused iPads sitting around in people's homes.

It is 1.5 lbs. Girly weights that they wear around to tone up are 2lbs. You can't be serious. It weighs significantly less than a typical hardback book.

3g

I'm thinking of returning mine and getting the 3G version. Luckily there is no restocking fee if you live in Hawaii. Is anyone else doing this and or do you think it's a good idea?

What about all of the apple stores that have people using them?

This would account for some of the number, but you wouldn't imagine they'd be using new iPads every day as test models. They'd likely continue to use the same ones. This would mean the number of 'unique' users would remain virtually static.

Money invested?
Hours spent?

There is more than material parts there.
Can you?
We have covered this before.

No one outside of Apple knows what the other costs are (R&D, marketing, etc.). They disclose R&D and SG&A as operating expenses in the financial statements. Since Apple does not reveal numbers for any individual product (SKU), it's impossible for an outsider to determine these numbers per product.

Even for Apple, it would probably be close to an impossibility.

A BOM analysis is the closest thing an analysis we get to COGS. If you'd like to take a stab at breaking out R&D and SG&A per product, feel free, but it's a pretty pointless exercise in my opinion. Remember, all the work done in previous quarters has already been declared.

Apparently, estimates are like arseholes now. Everyone has one.

everyone has one and they stink...

I really like the ipad though. I didn't think I was gonna like it but I finally got to play around with one today and it is really nice. I am really hoping the hospital software company that we use figures out a way to integrate their software so that we can just take these in with our patients. I know they are leaning towards using tablets in the near future, but these would really be nice to use instead.

On a separate note, does anyone know where I can find the article about that rotating wooden dock that someone made for their ipad? I ran across it a couple of weeks ago (i don't even remember the site...) and I want to show a friend, but I have no idea where I saw it. I think the guy had made it as a cash register or something but I really don't remember.

i'm pretty sure nothing charges off the usb on the keyboard. they aren't powered as far as i know. i have and imac and can't even import photos via keyboard from flashdrive.

I have a 2.8 Extreme Alum imac and I can hookup a pen drive on my keyboard and upload files and pictures! Don't know what your problem is exactly! No issues here!

Glad I decided to wait after hearing about all the wi-fi issues along.

500,000 beta testers imho.

There are only a few people having WIFI issues and they are getting resolved. It appears to only affect routers that are setup in specific ways. It's really not that big of a deal and is getting way overblown.

All the Apple haters and Apple fan baiters on this thread is hilarious. 99% of the taunts and jabs at iPad are from people looking to irritate those of us that love our Apple products. I say god bless em and let em enjoy their pc life. I believe that iPad may be the best 1st generation release they have ever done. The things I can do with my iPad never seem to run out and I am thrilled with mine . Does it replace my Macbook or iMac? Not supposed to is it? I can tell you that I have used my buddies net book with windblows on it and I believe it took a solid 5 minutes to boot and load a single browser window . My time is way to valuable for that kind of waste. Thank goodness for choices and companies that offer something different like Apple!!

They are determining unique iPads by IP address.

That would significantly undercount multiple iPads behind a lesser number of NAT routers or wifi access points. On the other hand, this would also overcount people who have been roaming between multiple access points (home, coffee shop, work, etc.)

Im happy it sold so well. Hopefully my mom is going to get one soon. All she does is e-mail and browsing and i was actually amazed hen i went to see the iPad at the :apple: store today. It was my 2nd time seeing it but, i saw keynote and pages and was really impressed. I did not think the iPad could make documents, let alone presentations. I'm very surprised at the iPad and hope they sell 500,000 more :)

We’re determining unique iPads by IP address. That’s also how we avoid stores with several test units – we actually tracked the IP address with the most hits to our network and it was a Best Buy in Minnesota. There’s a few issues with this method, admittedly, but we factor in an iPad’s likelihood to hit from multiple IP addresses as best we can in the extrapolation.

I'd be interested, in iPad owners opinions of the device a few months from now, after they've gotten over the excitement of a new toy.

I've read this comment a few times from you on a few threads. So far I like it, and I wasn't even planning on buying one. In fact, the one I'm using I got for my father as he is having vision difficulties brought on from diabetes. As he reads non-stop, the iPad allows for easier reading for him. The device is new, and there is so much potential. I'm actually excited about it having used one when before I thought it was simply an large iPod touch. It seems as more people use the device the more popular it is becoming.

As a side note, why are some people rating the articles with a lot of negatives? Seems there is a lot of bitter anti apple individuals who are still burned over the iPhones success and refuse to accept that the iPad may be a great device. Seems petty.
