I'm convinced it's a mental illness.

You can understand people liking a product and wanting to talk about a product they like - maybe even get others to try the same product.

I can't think of any rational person where a normal person would spend countless hours publicly posting message after message about how they hate a product that they've never used, never intend to use, and are proud of the fact that they never plan to even try. There's just no rational explanation for behavior like that.

I'm willing to consider alternatives, though. There are a few other possible theories, though.

1. Steve Jobs stole their girlfriend.
2. Mommy bought them a Zune and all their friends are making fun of them.
3. They can't get a real job and have to settle for bargain basement hardware instead of buying quality products
4. They just spent their year's computing budget on a Dell Inspiron and are jealous of anyone who can afford something better.

Actually just because we dont like the ipad or iphone doesnt mean that I dont like ALL apple products...

I just dont fall for everything that Jobs pulls out of his ass....nor am I delusional to think that apple or any tech company is perfect... so relax..

Ipad is a weak excuse(to ME) in its CURRENT FORM(sales or not)... I hate when people talk about what it can do later... what else do people buy in HOPES that it gets better in the future? only apple zealots... Sometime i hate being associated with the loud and proud few who talk just to talk and praise the ground Jobs walks on. Because they end up defining the many people with apple products.

Sad but true.. /rant

i'm pretty sure nothing charges off the usb on the keyboard. they aren't powered as far as i know. i have and imac and can't even import photos via keyboard from flashdrive.

The USB ports on the keyboards are intended for wired mice and wired mice only.

I've had USB hard disks that wouldn't spin up on certain ports - or needed to be plugged into 2 USB powers to get enough power to spin up.

The iPad not charging on some USB ports - is a USB issue not an iPad issue.

I wonder if the HP slate charges from one?

Are they counting the ipad that 19 year old high school student bought and smashed?

I wonder if he'll save up over the summer and we'll read about a 20 year old high school student smashing an iphone next fall?

I think it's testament that he is 19 and still in high school....

Regarding the touch screen keyboards, I was a big fan of physical keyboards on my devices, but i've grown to love my iphone keyboard. I like it a lot better than the one I had on my blackjack 2.

All in all, I am more impressed with the ipad than I thought i would. A lot of people may not like it, but the form factor and convenience are what won me over. I don't have one, but after trying it out, I may get one eventually even though I already have an iphone.

We’re determining unique iPads by IP address. That’s also how we avoid stores with several test units – we actually tracked the IP address with the most hits to our network and it was a Best Buy in Minnesota. There’s a few issues with this method, admittedly, but we factor in an iPad’s likelihood to hit from multiple IP addresses as best we can in the extrapolation.

So this ignores the additional units in households with multiple iPads which is probablly a wash with an iPad showing up from multiple IPs.

Just an FYI:

They are determining unique iPads by IP address.
1) They have to estimate the number of people that have connected from different locations. (Home, coffee shop etc.)

2) They have to estimate the number of multiple users connecting from a single IP due to routers. Let's say from the library or some dorms.

3) They have to estimate the ratio the people who have not yet visited one the websites that they work with and the total number of iPad web surfers. This ratio estimate has to fluctuate over time as sooner or later a user will hit one of those websites. The purchasers who bought today may not have visited one of those, but Saturday purchasers are quite likely to be counted in already.

After all these uncertainties and probably more that I could not think of, in the end, they come up with a number that is 40% less than what some other people estimate for the total number of iPads sold. As the numbers don't add up, they attribute the difference to the number of iPad users not using Safari for web surfing. Garbage in, garbage out...

So this ignores the additional units in households with multiple iPads which is probablly a wash with an iPad showing up from multiple IPs.

I'm sure there are a lot more travelling/dynamic-IP iPads than there are 2-iPad households.

The increased volume and frequency of the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the usual suspects portends a very, very successful future for the iPad indeed.

The smear campaign is reaching levels of obvious desperation. Time to pop more popcorn.

Where is the print fix Apple???????

I jumped and bought an ipad. Dumb me soon found out you cant print with the thing like I can with my imac on network printer. Note, to APPLE, get out an update so we can print with the thing! I would have never bought it had I known this, guess my fault for expecting that you could print what you read if you want too. I guess I expected too much for it to print! Duh! I expect Apple to put out a fix and not have to buy some app or work around to get it to print. This is so stupid of Apple. I am trying to convert to Apple, but this is the most lame thing I have seen them do! Stupid! I just have a $600 toy for now.

And there are a lot of companies with thousands of employees behind NAT firewalls - which show up as one IP.

Sure, but how many iPads are living behind those corporate firewalls right now? (How many companies with thousands of employees are letting unsanctioned equipment on the network? How many are sanctioning iPads?)

Yeah, this is pretty much your own fault actually.

USA Today Boasts Over 115,000 iPad App Downloads (AAPL, GCI)

"Earlier we remarked how no companies were bragging about how many iPad app downloads they've had so far because the numbers were so small. With only a few hundred thousand iPads out there, only a handful of developers are lucky to have app downloads even in the tens of thousands so far.

But USA Today has been one of the winners, and it just tweeted at us to announce that it has had more than 115,000 copies of its app downloaded so far, making it the top news app.

..."

What percentage of ipad owners are interested in USA today? If it's 25%, then that is 460k ipads sold. Somehow I think 25% is rather high for USA Today.

"Best Buy has sold out of the iPad at all 673 of its U.S. stores with Apple shops. In contrast, Apple stores are maintaining stock.
"We expect to have iPad inventory replenished at these locations by Sunday," said company spokeswoman Paula Baldwin.

Six Best Buy stores contacted in the San Diego and Los Angeles area said they sold out of the iPad on Saturday, the day iPad sales began. Ditto for Best Buy stores contacted on the East Coast; stores in suburban Philadelphia and Boston also sold out on Saturday. A New York store, however, said it had some stock until Tuesday but has no stock now.

That's crazy. My friend just bought one a few hours ago at best buy. We just randomly went into the best buy after eating and hoped they carried apple products and they did. They also happened to have the one he wanted. I guess he is luckier than he knows. :-D

Again, just in case you didnt read my last 2 post...

SALES to no denote FUNCTIONALITY AND USABLITY... get it?

Again, apple is the best advertising company in the world.. hands down... Iphone was passed up last year in function and design by HTC, Samsung, Sony, Nokia... Ipad will see the same fate... but sooner

(Note for the reading impaired: What I said above has no barring on apple mobile products selling like hotcakes)

No one is forced in to buying one. Enjoy your POS joojoo or Slate troll.

Advertising firm Chitika earlier this week rolled out a running tally calculating the number of iPads accessing the Internet via the device's Safari browser based on unique hits to its network of advertisements.

What a crap society when sales success of a device is measured by the number of ads it displays.

Well you can spend a couple dollars on an app, or you can sell the iPad on eBay to somebody overseas.

I think it is silly to by a $500 iPad and then slam it because you need a $5 app to print.

They are just using the ad data to figure out how many ipads are in use. The success is being measured by the nu beer of iPads sold.

I'm not sure why people hate ads so much. I mean, yeah flashy ads with audio and whatnot are the most annoying things ever, but small google ads aren't really a bother at all. Plus, it pays someones bills. It's also what pays for OTA broadcasts and newspapers.

I don't have a problem viewing unobtrusive advertising if it keeps services I use in business.

I was rather surprised that the Apple store still had all three models in stock today at 6:00 pm. I thought it would be safe to go in, because they were sold out. I ended up walking out with one.

Is there actually a way to print from, say, Safari?

The USB ports on the keyboards are intended for wired mice and wired mice only.

Then why are there two USB ports on a keyboard?

2 mice?

I'm not saying you can charge an iPad, or even an iPod from a keyboard USB Port, I'm just saying that the USB ports on a keyboard are designed for more than just mice.

Sure, but how many iPads are living behind those corporate firewalls right now? (How many companies with thousands of employees are letting unsanctioned equipment on the network? How many are sanctioning iPads?)

The thing is that ipads don't live anywhere, they travel really easy. And as witnessed in this thread, people love to show their new ipads all around. So every ipad appears at workplace, at home, at starbucks, at friends and neighbors homes etc....

Especially when it goes international.

Apple will have a lot harder time to selling these outside the US than in California...
