So, can it print? Can it connect to a projector? Can it backup documents somehow? You may not care about these questions, but they are only natural given the description of the iPad.
The weird part with all the million negative comments is this iPad doesn't replace nothing. It's an addition to Apple product line. So, who cares. There are still iPhones, iMacs, iPods, MacPros, Macbook pros, blah blah blah. Crying for nothing,

Of course the killer apps on the iPad will be the already existing iPhone apps VNC, RDP, and Citrix. If Apple adds their own Remote Desktop or a Back To My Mac app, who cares about the underlying iPad OS, you can remotely run any machine in any OS full screen. The reason they used the iPhone OS instead of OS X is because Mac OS X is too confusing to a World which only knows how to use Windows--so they had to keep it simple like the iPhone OS; or else only Apple fan-boys would buy it. Think about it.

"Typing in portrait is better than anticipated but still quite a stretch for our average-sized hands, which means that letters like F G and H will take a moderate conditioning for some. What about in landscape mode, sitting flat on the table? Well this is problematic too, as the iPad sort of wobbles. The back is not perfectly flat, meaning your typing surface is never perfectly flat, so the virtual keyboard becomes that much more difficult to use."
Reading comprehension, get some.

I actually own 2 Apple TV's. Its a great technology that allows me to either rent or watch my own movies, listen you music, display photos and view you tube and flicker . Apple has been missed the boat by not offering subscription plans like netflix. Why pay 2.99, 3.99 or 4.99 for a movie on the Apple TV when Netflix charges as low as 9.99 a month. And those who dont have an xbox have to purchase a device with similar cost to the Apple TV. Unlike the IPAD, the Apple TV is failing due to Apple's lack of commitment to the product. The MacBook Air, well, that was just stupid.
Actually, the current iPhone 3GS can play 720p videos, it's just that iTunes and Apple's video player don't support loading such content. However, if you transfer the 720p movies using an app like Air Sharing then you can open and play the movies just fine from within the Air Sharing file browser. I'm pretty certain the same is true for the latest generation iPod touch....2) Video. I convert my dvds to AppleTV h.264 files with handbreak. If I want to play them on my iPhone, I have to convert them in iTunes down to a resolution it can handle. Not anymore, this device will play them directly with no conversion. Great for trips with the kids...
No Multitasking that's a letdown i was thinking about getting one.
IMVHO Anyone who knows what multitasking is won't be the target market for this device.
I'm feeling quite underwhelmed by the iPad... guess my expectations were a bit too high.
I'm actually a little disappointed with the product in general. I really was hoping it would be a real table Mac, that runs OS X and allows you to do everything a regular laptop would be able to do but in a tablet format. Woulda loved to be able to use a stylus to mark-up documents, save files to a hard drive, print, all the things a regular laptop can do but the iPad can't. I do like the iphone/ipod touch interface as well, but wish it also had the option to act like a regular MacBook and use OS X. It could be much more capable than what it is. I'm not sure if people will go for simply an oversized ipod touch...I know I won't![]()
Thank you~!
The reaction of the raging geek community is even worse than I thought it would be... but then it's what you get when you believe the hype machine.
This device was only ever going to be what it is, it didn't take rocket science to figure out the direction it would go and to that extent I've left it all feel pretty impressed, especially by the price.
The problem with it all is if Joe Bloggs can wrap their head around having a device that is ultimately made for content and the money it will cost to get it. Whether it will succeed or not depends entirely on that, and perhaps how much Apple opens it up tot he developer community.
It's perhaps a little ahead of it's time because it's relying on people understanding that all the media we consume is going digital, hence the need for a device that you can relax and use while sprawled on the sofa, in bed, on the plane etc. Something that a desktop or laptop can't be used like ( not as successfully as this could ) and that while I use my iPhone like it now, the screen estate just isn't enough.
(it's also got other far reaching applications that it will no doubt be used for but AGAIN that depends how much apple opens this thing up.)
The pack like mentality that seems to have sprouted from the high & unreasonable expectations is clouding over what is a very good device.
Sure it's got some problems.... or more questions that need answering but a lot of people need to get their head around the fact that it was never going to be what you wished it would be but it has the potential to evolve into a new category of electrical product, one that we haven't ever needed but may turn into something that we might not be able imagine ourselves without in 5 years time, whether it's Apple branded or not.
