iPad/smart cover color thread

one of the little rubber nubs from the hinge fell out somewhere :-( damn crappy glue!

man, apple and glue just do not mix. Same thing happened to the sleep/wake button on my iphone 3g (except I found it and guerrilla glued it back on.)

Here is my White iPad with Red Smart Cover. :D

Here's my blue polyurethane and white iPad 2. I'd love to see what the white and gray poly looks like.

Im sick of the cheap light gray vinyl and want leather. How blue is the blue leather? In pictures it looks almost dark gray which is what I would prefer.

blue leather? they didn't make blue leather, they made navy leather which is a dark dark blue almost like black.

I purchased the red leather cover 17 days ago. I do not have any scratches on mine all. I take my iPad to work every day. I have the black iPad and it looks great on it. I also have navy leather one but do not like this color on the black iPad as well. Just my personal preference.

Where did you order yours from and how long after your order did it take for the red cover to ship? I'm still waiting for mine

I bought it at my local apple store. They only had two left in stock at the time. I bought it for two reasons; the money goes to fight AIDS and I love color of the leather. Navy blue has always been a favorite color but the smart cover is not the right shade of navy to suit me.

I bought the iPod Nano 6G in red when it was released last fall for the same reasons.

I hope you get yours soon.

+1 to JLemm's comment: the navy blue leather is just barely blue. It's essentially bluish charcoal and nearly indistinguishable from black in many lighting conditions. It's actually quite handsome.

I bought a Tan cover and planned to stain it with Obenaups but got frustrated that very few people sell it and I have a problem with paying $7 shipping on a $10 product. So I went with what I found around the house. 2 coats Olive Oil applied with a diaper and topped with Mink Oil.

BTW. Im seeing other colors and after only a few weeks they're looking ragged so I wonder why Apple went with such soft and untreated leather. Maybe the qualities they chose has something to do with all the bending its expected to do? I hope this isn't damaging the leather or putting it out of warranty.

i've never tried staining. IS is possible to stain a cream leather smart cover to make it nicer color? not a fan of having a brown smart cover... which is slowly turning into because of dirt and make-up (I touch my face and my make-up gets on my hands and I don't even think about what i'm about to do next... then BAM Medium Beige marks on my cream cover.)

Just an FYI to people. Avoid mink oil. It contains acids that will break down the leather over time. When it completely dries up over time it'll look pretty crummy too.

Im curious too. Lots of people here have multiple covers so maybe someone will experiment and find out? :D

Im guessing based on the colors that the Tan leather is probably just undyed leather which is why it absorbs simple stains/darkeners so easily but the other colors are already dyed and staining it more may not have clean results.

<Slaps forehead>

But mine looks so pretty. We'll see how the Mink oil affects it as time goes on... argh.

I'm going to attempt to have a leather guy try to clean the cover first. IF he can clean it then I'll be super happy, if not I'll give the dye a try. But I think I might wait until I get the red cover first before I try any crazy dying.

The Obenauf's Leather Oil comes with an applicator inside the lid... it's sort of a soft ball shape that you dip into the oil, shake off some of the excess, and then apply to the item.

ok - as usual this stuff isn't readily available in the UK - so I've been Googling and wondered if this stuff would work..if not - can you help out us Brits and suggest a different product that may be available from Amazon.co.uk :)

Will this work?

thats a bit harsh

I would not listen to anyone in cyberspace...go find a leather shop and ask....

I think there's a couple of people here who know their stuff - no need to be so harsh!

If you don't trust cyberspace I assume you never use Google to get information?
