So glad i brought that iPad back before the 14 day return ended. Bring on the updated full size version!

No sense to release a revised ipad with lightning when:
1. The new one is probably less than 5 months away.
2. No authorized factors are making lightning accessories.
3. It's a trade off to lose accessory support. The new product should be thinner to make up for it.

My prediction? A vastly thinner, more squared ipad in 2013 with the lightning connector, A6X processor and stereo speakers.

Apple, kill yourself.

I was going to buy the Nexus 7, but I need 3G.
I was waiting for the new iPad mini, because I prefer it (a lot). No 3G.

Damn!

No 3G, No iPad.

Asus is apparently releasing a 3g/4g nexus 7 in the near future.

you mean to tell me that if i waited 4 weeks to buy my iPad 3, 32 LTE instead of buying it last week, i could have gotten the lightening connector for the same price???

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Would a Wi-Fi only iPad Mini be completely ridiculous? Yes, of course.

Would Apple actually release a Wi-Fi only iPad Mini? Yes, of course.

Apple is king when it comes to getting customers to buy products following their refresh cycle. Releasing a Wi-Fi version now and then later releasing a 3G/4G version later would follow Apple's business model.

But it won't have Google Maps.

and if nothing ground-breaking is in the next iPad, apple can expect to lose more tablet market share than it did this year.

The main reason I want a cellular version is because the wi-fi iPads don't include GPS. Since my phone has both, if the iPad Mini doesn't include those features it's annoying but not necessarily fatal.

However if they only offer this at the low end - say 16GB only - then they're going to lose a sale. Adequate memory is a requirement, and 16GB just isn't enough if you want any media on the device at all.

Personally, I'd be fine with WiFi only. If I really need the iPad connected I can just create a hotspot on my phone. However, I still think the option should be present for those who need it.

Thank you!! Also with these new shared data plans, a 3G/4G model would require an additional fee. Using mobile hotspot would alleviate that cost. However, I understand many people don't want to deal with the hassle of enabling it. Time is money (something one says when they have more money than available time).

Stop stressing, heres the ipad mini situation:
NO retina screen
Same processor as in the new ipod touch
Available in 1 size only (8g)
Price $209 ($329 with lte)

Ipod touch 4g discontinued

Seriously, im avoiding ip5 due to lightning connector. If there are no cheaper source for the cables then apple gotta make em last atleast.

Way to dump on everyone in the UK that just bought a new iPad, buying in to all of that "spectrum is fragmented, won't be available for a few years yet" jargon.

Thanks, Apple!

So you'd prefer that they withhold 4G so that early adopters feel better? What about all the complaints from people that Apple doesn't care about the UK?

Clearly they now have a chipset that works on EE. Why not update it?

iPod Touch 4G discontinued is the most ridiculous claim I've heard yet. They just lowered the price of it, and added a 16GB model, but yeah, they'll get rid of it a month later. HAHAH

What are you expecting in the new ipad? I can't think of much. An active stylus has been on my wish list sense the first iteration, but I doubt that that will come to fruition.

what am i expecting? something the other companies won't have at its release.
If it's just a spec bump, then there's really no reason to spend more $$ on an apple tablet is there?

GAH! I AGREE!
The whole thing about it is its portability!
If it doesn't have 3G then what is the point?
Just so the kids can use it at home?!?!?!

You'd be surprised how well off you can be without any cellular data. I rarely ever use my 4G just because there is frequently wifi wherever I go, school included. Before I had an iPhone 4, I was using an iPod touch, and before that, an iPhone 1 with no SIM card.

The Nexus 7 and Fire were both WiFi only to begin with so Wi-Fi only for the first generation does have some precedence at this form factor. I wonder if the added cost/certification process complicates things? It certainly increases the cost and I could see Apple wanting to have a dead simple Christmas purchase one device three memory sizes; they won’t be able to make them fast enough.

Apple knows exactly what it is doing. Adding LTE would be too costly - more profits can be made with a WIFI only version. I think that they are doing the right thing.

If somebody absolutely cannot live a normal life without having LTE in their tablet, then they are welcome to get an iPad. Problem solved!
