What a complete sad little freak.

The UKs premium aesthete and national treasure. An intellect and wit beyond reproach.

Was the owner of one of the first 2 macs in the UK - the other was his friend Douglas Adams.

The voice of the the hitchikers guide book and Burton's cheshire cat, not to mention protector of Evie in V.

Voted the best dinner guest and person you would most like to be stuck in a lift with.

In short - a gentleman and a scholar.

It is also the biggest damn shame that the iPad doesn't have a cover, upon which is printed in large, friendly letters the words, DON'T PANIC.

Hidebound flip covers are being embossed in goldleaf across the far east as we speak .....

Oh, dear...

A gentleman and a scholar? I suggest checking the definition of those words. He is a WANNABE gentleman and a snob, not a scholar. He's not doing anything academic or worthy of academic attention. Pretending that you are more intelligent than you are hardly substitutes. Frankly, he's doing a 'general knowledge' quiz, full of reference to fart and animal's sex life. How thrilling!

A national treasure? Just like Cheryl Cole, Sir Cliff Richard and Jimmy Savile. Only marginally less tacky.

I would hate to be stuck in a lift with him and given the choice of stabbing myself or to have dinner with him, I would get the knife in a heartbeat. How much does he charge to have dinner with? I saw him in a brochure. I'd get more for my money if I set it on fire.

Intellect and wit? Or a sad caricature of a snob bore?

Gee, "It's just a big version of an Ipod Touch"

Ok, so let's say that it is.

I have a 19 inch TV in my kids room. Its great to watch TV and Videos.

Yet for some reason, I really prefer to watch TV and videos on my 52 inch HD plasma TV.

Get the point?

Well, then obviously you don't need an iPad, you can just carry that 52" TV with you. (Obviously, with an iPod Touch, a video cable and a power generator.)

...all alone.

Your kids watch what they want in another room and your wife checks her emails in the study.

The point of the iPad is its a new portal, and a portable portal at that.

Yes you have a big screen tv, but with the ipad you can sit with your family and check emails, read a book or even tv listings at the same time.

Its not replacing the big screen - its supplementing in it.

one thing that just irked me, was that i just paid $599 for my ipad, and it will not include a pair of earbuds? every ipod that i have ever purchased had earbuds...I have grown accustomed to it

ohwell

I will still deeply enjoy my ipad
i am looking forward to reading magazines on it, and playing the new games

Yes, and Apple will allow you to buy Apple earbuds with built in microphone for "only" $79.00:rolleyes:. Ah yup, iPods and iPhones came with them so I'll just use my iPhone earbuds with mic.

Now that I've had breakfast and 2 cups of coffee (refer to earlier post) I'm back into iPad buying mode.

Detractors of the Ipad jump on their observation that its "just" a bigger Ipod touch. I say....so what if it is?

The 19 inch TV is nice (Ipod touch) yet the 52" TV is better (Ipad)

Even if it was just a bigger Ipod Touch, isnt bigger better in this instance?

The Ipad is much more than the Touch but for those who revel in the idea that it's just about size, the TV analogy brings some perspective to the table.

I am SOOO tired of the 'no flash' being used as a con. Have any of these 'techies' ever looked to see how much CPU flash uses on their desktop and notebook computers? Here's a hint, it's A LOT!!!!

How about you complain that sites actually still use that crappy technology. Christ, do you also complain that computer are missing Real player support or PS/2 ports?

I use ClickToFlash to eliminate Flash on my Mac. I happen to consider the lack of Flash support on the iPad as a feature!

they are $29 not $79

Or $2.99 if you get a pair from ebay.

If you are referring to my earlier post about the earbuds this is on the Apple website under iPad accessories:

"Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
Hear every detail of your music every time you tune in with the Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic. They offer pro audio...

Based on 1501 reviews
$79.00"

If not, my appologies.

If you are referring to my earlier post about the earbuds this is on the Apple website under iPad accessories:

those are the hi spec ones.

the ones bundled with ipods are in the ipod accessories store for £29.

Is the back of it aluminum or is it plastic again?

Aluminum. The gallery at Apple's website makes it look a bit white and plastic, but really it's a nice Macbook Pro kind of look if you watch any of the videos. I really like it like that.

It is also the biggest damn shame that the iPad doesn't have a cover, upon which is printed in large, friendly letters the words, DON'T PANIC.

There is a third party case manufacturer opportunity if I ever heard one!

I think he did get the point and you proved this for him. He referred to it as a "big iPod". He did not say it was just an iPod. He said it was larger. You then go on to say that you prefer a larger viewing surface (i.e. your TV) and a larger iPod would satisfy this. So, I'm glad you both agree on that point.

I think the person who said this was a "big iPod" would undoubtly agree that it would be a better viewing experience than the regular iPod, but that's about it.

What's up with gmail push on the iPad?

I did not quite follow what he said about gmail pushing only through exchange? On my iPhone I have gmail pushing in one account and my work exchange mail pushing in another? Will this not fly on the iPad (because its a unified mail app?)?

Looks like you need to suck a bit better if you want a real one.

(Nice shading on the home button btw)

Some nice features, but one in particular I am looking for in the iBook reader.
The ability to flip through pages in a more tactile way.
This would be the perfect app for holding user/reference manuals or even learning guides.
However, books like this need the ability to quickly and even visually flip around. When I have a book like this in my hand, I generally know where in the book the information lies. So it is often quicker to skim through it than to go to the table of contents.
Here is what I would like to see.

1 finger swipe moves you 1 page.
2 finger swipe moves you 10 pages.
3 finger swipe moves you 100 pages.
4 finger swipe takes you to the back of the book or to the front of the book.

Visual feedback should also be present on the right and left showing the number of pages you are into the book just as in a real book, there would be more pages visible on the right when early into the book and less on the left.

All these things would allow you to handle and manipulate the book as if it were actually in your hand.

Maybe these features are in there already, I don't know, but if they aren't, I'd certainly like them to be.
