You guys can keep your 3G model that costs $130 extra plus $30/month for ATT's already over burdened network.

For $15/mo to AT&T and $3/mo to Skype, I'll use it for the three cell calls I make a month, email, google maps while on the road & the few internet references I need every so often. I'll save about $120/mo by dropping my home internet and iPhone services, and I'll only have to carry one device (and since I need to carry around a sketchpad and a tablet computer anyway, it might as well be this one) If I find I'm using it more than that, I'll shell out another $15 a month. I'm no fan of AT&T, but this is a great deal.

I've been using my WiFi model EVERYWHERE. I have an unlimited data plan with sprint + HTC Touch Pro 2 + Walkinghotspot.com app.

I'm golden. You guys can keep your 3G model that costs $130 extra plus $30/month for ATT's already over burdened network.

Yeah, but you need to use Windows Mobile. Ew. That's worth $100 to avoid right there, plus you had to pay $25 for app, so it's really a wash.

March called, it wants its news back :p

You seem to do this a lot, if you take a step back from the self proclaimed MacRumors forum cop for a minute you should notice this is a very relevant topic. This is what is interesting for a lot of people now due to the imminent release of the 3g iPad. I don't see any issue with them reporting on it. Maybe its just me though.

So is there any other purpose for this post other than to crap on people? Just curious.

We just got a shipment confirmation for the 3G for a school order. It is coming UPS from China.

It'd be kinda funny if after all this effort and wait, my credit card was tapped out and couldn't pay the $30+tax for the 3G bandwidth for the month.

I'm sure it'll happen to somebody, though. There's been a scenario for just about everything.

I'm definitely in a weird limbo. Have two 3G's on order.

The first was placed the second the pre-order link went live. Ordered a 64GB 3G and some accessories. The accessories have since been delivered. But the iPad itself still shows Not Yet Shipped.

The second was placed a few days later, for another 64GB + 3G model. Ordered that solo, no additional items. That one shows Ready To Ship.

Hopefully this is all just logistics and they all come on the 30th!

And you can keep your crappy phone

I understand your concept, but you're still locked to a contract, as the iPad+3G doesn't require one. I take it you're not a fan of the iPhone?

When the iPhone HD comes out, I'll probably turn off the 3G on the iPad, and hopefully AT&T will allow tethering. Otherwise, I'll be so tempted to jailbreak and get MyWi.

Does anyone have a definite idea on how much the unlimited data plan would be each month after taxes and other regulatory fees? Apple nor AT&T can provide me an answer.

There in is the problem it is a City, by City, County, by County, State by State, thing. Everybody has there fingers in your wallet/purse. On top of this what kind of Mystery fee's will AT&T tack on. Here what I could find.

All states charge a Federal Excise tax of 3.0% and Federal USF tax of 2.48%

More an more Cities are charging franchise fees on cell phones, New York City charges $1.00 a month per phone. One of the tricks used with Cell Phones is to get your service from a provider based in Nevada which has the lowest state taxes on cell phones, however because AT&T is the only game in town for the iPad, for now at least. You are stuck with your home location.

This list already has the federal charges added to the totals.

I don't think I will go with a 3G iPad. I have been very happy with my Touch 2G so I have a bench mark to work from. I am always around computers at home or at work so the need to have a 3G connection from a portable access device is just not important to me at this time.

I am waiting for Leo La Port's review of the 3G iPad on the MacBreak Weekly podcast, or vodcast.

I'm working this Friday and as I understand it, someone has to be home for the UPS Driver to give it too. It won't be left at the door. I'm hoping to write a note, sign it & post it to my door in the hopes the delivery driver will leave it for me.

Doesn't your UPS make a second attempt after 5pm? Pretty risky leaving a note telling everyone you have a package delivery on iPad 3G day.
