Can we say that we don't like ONE Apple product without the 40 year old MacRumors Nazis crawling out of the depths of their suburban homes and calling us blasphemous?!

I have to agree with him, there really is no need to have an iPad when you have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone (preferably the new one). The iPad just isn't for me.

It's good to know that only people who have been on this board as long as you have opinions that count.

I, personally, could care less if you don't like any of the Mac products. I don't like the new iPhone and won't be buying it because I don't see the value. No big deal. I do, however, have an iPad and use it in place of my laptop most of the time, only bringing up the laptop for the financial software.

Now, are you saying that it's fine to start calling people idiots because they want an iPad? If you don't want one, then don't buy one. Pretty simple, huh? However, if you do buy one you aren't an automatic idiot.

Oh, and what the hell does age, join date, and post count have to do with anything? Are you feeling superior because you have more posts than I do? Really? Nice way to value your worth.

I own a MacBook, touch, and an iMac. I don't hate them. I just hate when they try to sell me overpriced garbage instead of innovation.

People as yourself speak of innovation in vague terms because they mostly don't know what they want, only that this instance of the product in front of them is missing the something that they think that they need.

Clue. Start talking about the specifics of innovation that you would like to see and I will have some respect for your opinion.

Until then, waste of bandwidth.

also, if you have a cell phone you are entirely familiar with the technology, it's the same as a regular SIM just that there is less plastic around the chip itself.

Hi,

Never owned a cell phone. Seem like a waste of money for my needs.

Without violating your SLA? Never.

If you don't mind violating the SLA.... probably about 3 hours.

What do you mean your SLA? I understand what SLA means, but what does this have to do with the iPad? Does it void your warranty of the iPad? That's not an SLA.

Does it void the warranty? Not that I'm aware of, but then again, we primitive folk outside the US have yet to see one in the stores here.

Does it void the warranty of the device to which you tether it? What does that have to do with the iPad? I've actually set up tethering on my iPhone and Apple couldn't care less.

Please explain your SLA comment.

Everyone that doesn't want to jailbreak.

You do *NOT* need to jailbreak your phone to set up tethering. There's a chappie in Austria (a quick google will show the site) that allows you to set up tethering on your iPhone, and then you're good to go.

Hi,

What is wrong with the iPad having a Micro SIM card?

I am not familiar with the technology and what the potential problems could be.

Cheers,

s.

I only did a bit of research on this but from what I could find, only a few carriers have the micro sim cards. AT&T and I heard T-Mobile does as well. Also, only certain 3G frequencies will work with the iPad so I think a few carriers could only offer Edge data type networks if they sold micro sim cards.

It's not that, it's just that posting that you don't want a product EACH AND EVERY TIME AN ARTICLE IS WRITTEN ABOUT IT gets annoying and seems trollish. Which I'm not saying you do yourself, but there's an army of folks who feel the need to spout their iPad opinion in comment threads about any random little thing related to the iPad. It gets annoying for those of us just trying to discuss the point who weren't looking for amateur critic hour.

When an article comes out about some software I don't use I don't jump on and declare "don't need it; don't see the point." Like when a new version of Quickbooks is announced I don't jump in and say "Not an accountant. Don't need it. You're all idiots." That would be childish, no?

There have been threads to discuss your opinion of the iPad itself but this is simply announcing the arrival of the 3G version. Now, if you were discussing that you don't feel the 3G is necessary or a good value or something along those lines then those would be appropriate comments to make. But one off comments about how the iPad is not for you or stupid or only idiots buy it: what value is that adding? You do realize you're the 574,223rd person to say these things, right? Nobody here reads that and stops, their mouth agape, thinking "Oh my God I didn't realize that somebody out there doesn't like the iPad... this changes everything!" We know, we appreciate your opinion, but we're just trying to talk about 3G here.

The iPad just isn't for me.

So it's not for you or the trolls. If you don't want it, you don't have to buy it.
What's with the obsession over flinging insults at those who do find a use for it?

I need an always-handy, always-on, always-connected Internet access device bigger than an iPhone. The iPad satisfies that, and does so in a way that lets me consider something bigger & more powerful than an Air as a primary full-blown computer.
Why, then, must I be deemed "clueless" and otherwise insulted?

Frack me

"Of note, iLounge reports that the 3G-capable models come shipped in the exact same style of box used for the Wi-Fi-only models released earlier this month with the addition of two stickers on the rear of the box listing the capacity and 3G nature of the contents."

Talk about obsessive. Describing the box? Is that what we have come to?
Did iLounge think they would ship in a cigar box? Come on.

re: who bought 3g without considering tethering?

I know another group who surely did! Those who want the GPS capabilities only found in the 3G model, because they plan on using it in their vehicles to do turn by turn navigation and the like!

I wonder how many laid down the cash for the 3g model without even thinking about tethering to their iPhone.

Yeah. Looks just like an iSight on a Macbook.

I think it's probably just the ambient sensor to see how bright the screen should be.

Correct, light sensor. It's there on the wifi version I have had since a month ago. Is it ironic they are selling the new pad almost 27 days later? Guess it's just a monthly thing lol

You took the words right out of my iMouth ;-)
