A lot of DMA haters seem to forget that Apple became profitable after Microsoft faced regulation.
That case was brought by the US Justice Dept due to the fact that Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser had market share in excesss of 90%. (Hard to believe, I know.) Do you have evidence that Apple has market share in excess of 90% in any market?

Wow. Who needs socialism when you can just run the companies from afar, without the pesky parts of actually owning and running them. Apple's software policies are not really any surprise. If you don't like Apple's products and services, then don't buy Apple's products and services. I don't like the insulting 5GB iCloud they provide. And they are pretty stingy when it comes to RAM. But that is my decision, and I accept those trade-offs when i choose to buy their products. What's next? Are Windows machines going to be required to allow install of MacOS (or Linux or ChromeOS or Meta or...?) upon boot-up? Or Macs, required to offer Windows? Will diesel cars be required to accept non-diesel gas? Canon cameras required to use Nikon lenses? Maybe force Activision to release Mac versions of Call of Duty? Force the EU to allow non-European nations to join?
The same logic can be extended to any length and the fallacy will become apparent once it is done.
1. If Apple wants to sell devices as it chooses, then it should sell in only those countries that do not force it to make changes. In effect, do not sell in the EU if you do not want to adhere to the laws the EU makes
2. If you want to use only devices that have a closed garden type ecosystem, make your own device.

See, this is a game anyone can play.

You can have your closed system if you close it by not installing alternative app stores, never sideload, and generally keep doing what you are doing. Why do you want others to not have a choice of their own? Even on Android, just because alternate stores and sideloading is allowed, not everyone is using it.

if the applications and services i use decide to move off the app store in order to make more money then i either lose their apps/services or am forced to use an alternative app store.

the only beneficiaries of this in general will be the larger app and service makers, not the users.

Anyone with an IQ of 75+ saw this coming (even Apple). Apple is just playing the long con, trying to milk as much out of their platforms as possible before they need to fully comply with the DMA.
No con. It's business. But yes, Apple is very likely not surprised and have responses and action plans already laid out in front of them.

You can always use the App Store. Why does that have to preclude me from using Apps outside of the App Store? How communistic is it that everyone MUST do what you deem as ‘safe’?

because thats what both of us signed up for when we bought iphones. now you want to do something that wasnt possible before, and that forces apple to make changes and me to have an inferior service that i didnt sign up for when i bought my gadgets.

Apple has crippled iPadOS and consumers need the EU to force Apple to make moves that actually benefits the consumer. The fact that the real Chrome browser is not allowed on the iPad means the iPad as a web browsing machine is literally worse than a cheap Chromebook. Most developers put the majority of their effort to optimising their apps for the web and the best extensions are made for Chrome on desktop.

Safari is just a piece of junk. The only reason it has any marketshare at all on iOS and iPadOS is because Apple is being anticompetitive and doesn't have to compete with Google. When they do have to compete on MacOS, guess what. People are voting and the vast majority like and chose to install Chrome. Apple users claim Chrome users don't know any better and Safari is so much better but that's the argument Android and Windows users like to make about Apple users in general so that argument is moot.
Tbh safari on mobile is quite good

Has any business incentivized end users to switch to other company's products? We suck so bad, you should just go make our competition rich. BTW, here are the tools to make your exit painless.
